00:00of works and infrastructure, Jirlene John is promising a noticeable improvement in the
00:04condition of the nation's roads. TV6 News inquired of the minister whether there are
00:08any plans to undertake a road rehabilitation exercise following the fatal road traffic
00:14accident last Friday, where the 58-year-old victim is said to have crashed into oncoming
00:19vehicles while trying to avoid a pothole at the Manahambri Road. Minister John pointed
00:25out that the current administration has inherited a network of roads across the country where
00:31deterioration is a concern. However, she says the traveling public can expect some tangible relief
00:37in the coming months. Importantly, we continue to assist with the repair of roadways in areas that
00:42do not fall under the ministry's jurisdiction. So that is like saying again, we work closely with
00:46the ministry of local government because sometimes they don't have the resources. We have started
00:50ministries in-house training, skills development, internal quality control system,
00:55feedback loops, accountability and consequences, right? And of course, with all of that, we are
01:01trying to improve the quality and sound of patching and paving across the country. People must see that
01:07difference. That is what we are looking for. So I really want to commit that between now and maybe
01:12the next after Carnival or thereabouts, let's say first quarter of next year, at first it will be
01:18incremental, but by that first quarter of next year, I think the country will see a huge change with
01:23respect to our response to pothole, but not only demand push or demand pull, but also we'll be
01:29running ahead, you know, of the work, of the complaints and so on. That is what we are aiming for.
01:36All right. To be dealing with the clutter, because cluster of work, because sometimes a whole road
01:42as if it are pucks under the amount of pothole it has. So we really want to eradicate, I want to say,
01:50but at least to bring it on to a manageable level at this point in time.
01:54The minister notes that she has been touring sites every Wednesday and the ministry has already
01:59rehabilitated a number of roads in collaboration with stakeholders.
