00:00you probably have the most the hardest job as far as being controversial or
00:09saying controversial things like everybody everybody had to say something
00:13that was offensive but you actually your character's thesis was on the use of the
00:19n-word in hip-hop culture so yeah it was that uncomfortable at all absolutely I
00:25mean I think that that word is one of the most violent words in the English
00:33language and I had never said it before this film it was it was really tough it
00:38was really tough to say those words because I you don't want to put that out
00:43there at the same time though I knew that there was a bigger point a message of
00:47this film that I really wanted to convey so in order to do that if I did have to
00:51say it I would but I've I can go on the record by saying I have never said it
00:56apart from the takes even in rehearsal I wouldn't say excited it's very
00:59uncomfortable for me to say that and since then I will never never say it
01:03unless it's for a really good project and I think that's a testament to the script
01:07as well and also Joseph's a storyteller because as a white actor to say those
01:12kinds of things it's tough and you're risking a lot so it's really you have to
01:17do it with a story that you trust and with a filmmaker that you feel safe with
01:20you
