Transcript
00:00Chris Rock has made his first public appearance following his confrontation with Will Smith at
00:04the 2022 Oscars. When the comedian kicked off his stand-up tour at the Wilbur in Boston on Wednesday,
00:10he walked out to a roaring standing ovation that lasted roughly two minutes. Once the crowd had
00:15quieted down, he asked them, quote, how was your weekend, which was greeted with laughter.
00:20Rock went on to speak briefly about Sunday's incident, but did not directly mention the
00:24Oscars ceremony, the Academy, or Smith. He told the crowd, I don't have a bunch of
00:28about what happened, so if you came to hear that, I have a whole show I wrote before this weekend,
00:33and I'm still kind of processing what happened. So at some point, I'll talk about that,
00:37and it'll be serious, and it'll be funny. The comedian continued, I'm going to tell some jokes.
00:42It's nice to just be out. At the end of his show, which ran for about an hour, Rock received another
00:47standing ovation. Rock's appearance follows Smith taking to Instagram on Monday to apologize for
00:52slapping the comedian on stage during the live Academy Awards show, after Rock made a joke
00:57about his wife, Jada Pinkett Smith. For more on this story, go to THR.com. This is the Hollywood Reporter News.
