The never ending superb Graffiti Art of Colosio N. Playa
named after Luis Donaldo Colosio Murrieta a Mexican politician, economist, and Institutional Revolutionary Party presidential candidate, who was assassinated at a campaign rally in Tijuana during the presidential campaign of 1994. That violence led to Mexico breaking from one party rule. The lands were return to the native Mexicans, it was waste land north of the small town of Playa del Carmen where the ferry to Cozumel is. Playa exploded into the fastest growing planet on Earth. Colosio is suffering from massive gentrification. The wealthy have re-stolen the land from the native Mayans who lacked legal protections of their deeds. And, as always, money screams. Much of Colosio remains a vibrant working class neighborhood. It's revolutionary heritage is projected in it's spectacular art that is copied all over Mexico but birthed in the Yucatan. Worldwide the best street art graffiti are always found in the poorest neighborhoods. It is, by its nature Hood art. It is how the Hood expresses its self.
