00:00Robbie Coltrane, known for playing Hagrid in the Harry Potter movie franchise, has died.
00:05He was 72.
00:07The Scottish-born comic and actor began his career in comedy and theater.
00:11His early TV credits include Flash Gordon and Keep It in the Family.
00:15His other comedy credits included series like A Kick Up the 80s, The Comic Strip, and Alfresco,
00:21as he became a mainstay on British TV screens.
00:23His breakout role was playing Dr. Edward Fitz Fitzgerald,
00:27an antisocial criminal psychologist with a gift for solving crimes in the series Cracker,
00:32which ran for over 25 episodes between 1993 and 2006.
00:37That BAFTA-winning performance led him to roles in two James Bond films,
00:41GoldenEye and The World Is Not Enough.
00:43His other big supporting roles came as he played Hagrid in the Harry Potter films,
00:47starting with Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone in 2001.
00:50He also wrote an autobiography, Coltrane in a Cadillac,
00:54and starred in the TV series of the same name in 1993,
00:57where he drove across America from Los Angeles to New York City in a classic 1951 Cadillac car.
