00:00How does it feel heading into this weekend? Is it just like all celebratory?
00:05Is it just like kind of like run and gun, no time to relax? How are you feeling?
00:09It's a pretty intense couple of days. I landed from England on Thursday night and I leave again on Monday morning.
00:15So yeah, so the weekend's a kind of concentrated thing. You don't really get a chance to stop for breath.
00:21But just to be part of the buzz of it and the energy of it and kind of plunk yourself into it for a few days,
00:27it's really, really exciting and I'm just thrilled to be here and thrilled to feel part of this amazing community of talent.
00:35I heard that this party, though, is one of the best parties of the weekend.
00:39So what do you think makes the Baptist Tea Party so fun? Is it just that the Brits have more fun?
00:45Well, speaking for myself, no. But yeah, I love this one.
00:49There's something about it being the daytime and there's something about it being a bit less formal.
00:54You know, people are dressed a bit less formal and, you know, it's usually outdoors and in nice weather.
00:59It feels a bit like a kind of, there's more of a kind of barbecue-y afternoon type of feel to it.
01:04It's a bit less stuffy and a bit less formal and people can just be a bit more relaxed, I think.
01:08And I think that's why people love this one.
01:10I know you recently talked about being a part of Three Body Problem and how you kind of felt limited before then,
01:15after your time at Game of Thrones in terms of the characters and roles that you were being offered.
01:19So how would you say that's sort of changed now by being a part of Three Body Problem and kind of going forward?
01:25Well, I think that the great thing about my part in Three Body Problem is that I don't think it could have been given to me by anybody who didn't know me really well.
01:32I think that once you play a certain part for a number of years, especially if it's your first role, people think that's what you're like.
01:39But it turns out I'm quite different from the character that I played in Game of Thrones.
01:43And it's only because David and Dan knew me so well that they knew that I could do other stuff, so they gave me this chance.
01:49And, yeah, it's been a bit of a reset, and I'm kind of looking forward to playing characters that are a bit more light and a bit more confident and a bit more comfortable with themselves.
01:58And, yeah, we'll just see what that brings.
01:59But, yeah, it's like a nice reset.
02:01They've kind of changed my whole career once for Game of Thrones, and it feels like they've kind of changed it all over again.
02:06I love that.
02:07Well, since we are at a tea party, I'm going to have you spill the tea on a few things.
02:10Can you spill the tea on the best thing you've seen on TV this year?
02:15Oh, well, I think the thing that came out of the blue and took everybody by surprise was Baby Reindeer this year.
02:21In terms of, you know, it wasn't a big, hard launch.
02:26There wasn't, like, a lot of publicity around it.
02:28It was just a real word-of-mouth success.
02:31You heard people talking.
02:32You saw people on social media talking about it, heard people talking about it, and it became one of the biggest hits of the year.
02:37And I think it's a great testament to you don't need an enormous budget.
02:42You don't even need, like, star power in it.
02:45If the story and the writing's good enough, they'll make those people into stars, and I'm so delighted for everybody in it.
02:50What's a show that you would love to guest star on?
02:53Well, up until it finished last year, it would have been Succession.
02:57There's just something about that show that had a unique kind of flavor to it, and it was kind of from an individual perspective.
03:08So I would have loved to have been in that at some point.
03:10And finally, who is the last person from the Three Body Problem cast that you texted, and what did you say?
03:16I texted Benedict Wong about 30 seconds ago, because he's supposed to be joining me here in a second, and he's running late.
03:23I'm not going to tell you what it said.
03:25It might not be suitable for whatever platform this is, but he's on his way.
03:29Keep an eye out for him.
03:30Fair enough, fair enough.
03:32Well, enjoy your time here today.
03:33Good to see you again.
