Transcript
00:00Olivia Wilde is opening up about her experience during the Don't Worry Darling press tour.
00:05Wilde was honored as one of Elle's women in Hollywood on Monday night, and during her
00:09speech opened up about what she endured during the film's press tour and its aftermath.
00:14The Warner Bros. film was of course at the center of several controversies, including
00:18stories about the complicated relationships between Wilde and her cast, and Shia LaBeouf,
00:23who originally held the role played by Harry Styles.
00:26The drama continued during Don't Worry Darling's premiere in Venice, where the internet was
00:30convinced that Styles spit on co-star Chris Pine.
00:34During her speech at the Getty Center, Wilde noted,
00:36"...I was an actress who started producing and then finally got the courage to start directing,
00:41and wouldn't have started any of it at all if I knew Twitter would be invented."
00:45The director admitted that sometimes it's not easy to keep going.
00:49Sometimes it's tempting to excuse ourselves from the burning hellfire of the misogyny that
00:53defines this business, and say, "...goodnight, good luck, I'd rather eat glass for a living."
00:58But she added that women in the entertainment industry don't let each other give up, and
01:01she'd recently gotten encouragement from other women in Hollywood.
01:05Wilde said events like this one held by Elle, where she was honored alongside Ariana
01:09DuBose, Anne Hathaway, Issa Rae, Zoe Kravitz, Sidney Sweeney, Sigourney Weaver, and Michelle
01:15Yeoh motivated her to keep fighting through the hellfire.
01:19Let's face it, you're not a woman in Hollywood until you've begged to be placed into a medically
01:23induced coma until your press tour is finished.
01:26Until then, you're just a woman residing in or around the Hollywood area.
