Sources are weighing in on the rumored feud between the 'It Ends With Us' costars saying two rival cuts of the film were made.
Transcript
00:00Is there a rift between the cast of It Ends With Us? Well, the internet seems to think so,
00:04and sources are saying there may be something to all the speculation.
00:08TikTok is flooded with rumors about a rift between star producer Blake Lively
00:12and her co-star director Justin Baldoni for the on-screen adaptation of Colleen Hoover's beloved novel.
00:19The chatter stemmed from Baldoni's notable absence from joint press events
00:22that was largely led by Lively along with the other cast members.
00:26Fans also noticed a lack of photos of Lively and Baldoni together during the film's premiere
00:31or anywhere during the press run.
00:33In addition, neither Lively, Hoover, nor the rest of the cast follow Baldoni on Instagram,
00:37though they all follow each other and have been posting slash praising each other
00:41leading up to the film's release.
00:43This raised eyebrows seeing as Baldoni helmed the project
00:46and Hoover and Baldoni appeared together on each other's Instagrams multiple times previously.
00:51Social media users also speculated that Lively brought in husband Ryan Reynolds
00:55to take over creative control of the film after he was seen involved in some of the film's promo.
01:01Blink once for, I'd love to be your new dad.
01:04He blinked.
01:05He blinked.
01:06And Lively revealed on the premiere's red carpet
01:09that Reynolds wrote a key scene at the top of the movie.
01:12The iconic rooftop scene, my husband actually wrote it.
01:15Nobody knows that but you now.
01:16However, the film's screenwriter Christy Hall spoke to The Hollywood Reporter
01:20that she indeed wrote the scene in question.
01:23Probably the most difficult scene for me to crack was the rooftop scene
01:26because I have to say, Colleen wrote it perfectly
01:29and I wish I could have just lifted it from the pages and just put it in the film
01:34but it's a little too long for film language
01:37and so my first crack at it, it was like a 10-page scene
01:41which is a little impossible.
01:43So, the question became, what do we keep?
01:47What do we shave off?
01:48So, on the page, it took a long time to get right
01:51and then I have to say, like, Justin and Blake just killed it.
01:54Now, sources are telling The Hollywood Reporter
01:56that there was indeed a fracture among the filmmakers
01:58in the post-production process
02:00noting that two different cuts of the movie emerged.
02:04According to multiple sources, Lively, as a producer,
02:07commissioned a cut of the movie from editor Shane Reed
02:09who is an editor on Deadpool and Wolverine
02:11as well as the Lively directed music video for Taylor Swift's
02:15I Bet You Think About Me.
02:17It's unclear if any of this cut was ultimately used in the final project
02:20which was credited to editors Una Flaherty and Rob Sullivan.
02:24As for plans for the sequel, Hoover's 2022 novel It Starts With Us,
02:28Baldoni has expressed being non-committal
02:30about whether he would direct another film in the franchise.
02:33Noting at the premiere to Entertainment Tonight,
02:35I think Blake Lively is ready to direct.
02:37That's what I think.
02:38In the end, the chatter around it ends with us
02:40could potentially go away with the film now open.
02:43The Sony film earned a huge $7 million in Thursday previews
02:47as it competes with Deadpool and Wolverine at the box office.
02:50Exhibitors suggest the film could open to $40 million or more
02:53with some predicting it could climb as high as $55 million.
