A local aviation company wants to help Taiwan's military track Chinese ships around Taiwan, as Taipei pushes a "whole-of-society" approach to defense.

00:30Apex Aviation, which runs a small Taiwanese flight school and charter service, is proposing
00:45this idea at a time when Taiwan's government has been pushing what it calls a whole-of-society
00:50resilient strategy. That means Taipei is increasingly turning to civilians and private
00:55companies to help strengthen the country's defense, as Taiwan's waters and airspace face
01:00growing incursions from China. As part of the initiative, Taiwan's military has started working
01:06with companies to produce items like drones. But the military says it has no plans to work
01:12with Apex, saying it can monitor China's activities on its own. Experts say Taiwan needs the kind
01:18of surveillance Apex offers, but allowing a private company to run it might pose some
01:23legal questions.
