Darren Jones, Chief Secretary to the Prime Minister, says that Tulip Siddiq MP "completely refutes any allegations of wrongdoing" and believes that her trial in absentia 'was more political than legal' after being sentenced to a two year jail sentence in Bangladesh for corruption in the country. The former Labour minister was accused of using her influence over the country's former prime minister, who is her aunt, for her family's benefit. Report by Ketchs. 00:00Tulip has been tried in absence in Bangladesh, she completely refutes any allegations of wrongdoing and of course wasn't part of the trial that took place in Bangladesh.
00:12My understanding is she's tried to engage with that process and has not been allowed to do so and so she's concluded that this is more of a political thing than a legal thing.
00:20But of course Tulip will need to speak to the details herself.
