Transcript
00:00We have to give the woman a lot of credit. She was not just a friend to us, but she was really
00:04one of a kind and very important to the industry, I think.
00:07This episode of THR News is brought to you by Avatar The Way of Water for your consideration
00:12in all categories, including Best Picture. The View paid tribute to the late Barbara Walters
00:17with its first episode of the new year. Walters, the trailblazing newswoman who co-created The
00:22View, died December 30th at the age of 93. On Tuesday, the ABC talk show dedicated its hour
00:28to remembering Walters' life and legacy with both the current and past hosts who shared
00:33the table with her. Walters launched The View at age 68 and spent 17 years on the show before
00:38her 2014 departure and retirement from journalism. Joy Behar called her the original role model
00:44for women in TV news. She very much defied sexism and she defied ageism. She went right into the
00:51jaws of the lion right there. Sunny Hostin said Walters always validated her opinion and Alyssa
00:58Farrah Griffith called her a trailblazer and a pioneer. Meanwhile, Sarah Haynes shared this.
01:03For someone who gets paid to talk, what she did so well was listen.
01:07Debbie Matinopoulos, who was on the original panel with Walters, opened up about how the
01:12iconic journalist, quote, single-handedly changed her life.
01:15It was like taking a master class in journalism with the most, like, well-respected,
01:24well-renowned female journalist in history. And Star Jones, who was also on the show's
01:29original panel, remembered how Walters was behind the scenes, saying she always told the
01:34best stories. We got to dish with this woman in ways that other people will never, ever
01:39appreciate it. She was the best gossiper. She had all the change. She was really the best
01:46gossiper. For more on this story and more on Barbara Walters' life and career, go to THR.com.
