00:00Hi there!
00:01This is the TH sound, as in the words this, that and other.
00:15The TH sound is from the consonant pairs group and is called the voiced dental fricative.
00:24This means that you create friction between the tongue and the top teeth.
00:29The TH sound is made through the mouth and is voiced, which means that you vibrate your
00:35vocal cords to make the sound.
00:38It's defined by the position of your tongue and teeth.
00:41It's a fricative, which means the sound is produced by high pressure air flow going between
00:48a narrow space in the mouth.
00:51In this case, it's the space between the tip of the tongue and the top teeth.
00:58So to produce the sound, you have to stick out your tongue a little.
01:02This can feel very unnatural for some people who are not used to it, but it is essential
01:07to produce the sound correctly.
01:10So rest your top teeth on your tongue, and force air out between your tongue and your teeth
01:18whilst voicing out.
01:24The TH sound is normally spelled with the letters TH, as in the words TH, mother, weather,
01:38and either.
