00:00Hi, I'm Tim and this is my pronunciation workshop. Here I'm going to show you how English is really spoken. Come on, let's go inside.
00:20In English we have an expression, man's best friend. Do you know what this refers to?
00:32Beer! No, not beer. Dogs! A dog is man's best friend, but not always. What would you say to a dog that did this?
00:46Bad girl. She's a bad girl. The dog has been a bad girl.
00:50Now the word bad ends in the sound duh, doesn't it? Or does it? Watch and listen again. Can you hear the duh?
01:02Bad girl. She's a bad girl. The dog has been a bad girl.
01:06In fluent speech a duh changes to a guh when it comes before guh or ck. So bad girl becomes bad girl.
01:18This is an example of assimilation and here are some more examples.
01:24He's a really good cook.
01:26Last night we had guests for dinner. Can you print out a hard copy?
01:30I'd love to walk down the red carpet one day.
01:34Right, so you've heard the examples and now it's your turn. You know the drill. Listen and repeat.

02:18Now, you know what? I'm not really that keen on dogs. I'm more of a cat person.
02:25Oh no no no no no. No no no. That was just a joke. Good girl. Good girl. Good girl. Good girl.
02:33Ah!
02:35Very funny. Oh, you're actually quite cute.
02:40Who's a good girl? Who's a good girl?
02:43Ow! Ow! Ow! God!
02:45Ah!
02:47Bag girl!
