00:00Skydance has scrapped their Matthew McConaughey soccer film, Dallas Sting.
00:04The studio pulled the plug after the project was only six weeks away from beginning production
00:08and was almost fully cast. The film is set to be directed by the Falcon and the Winter
00:13Soldiers, Kari Skoglund. The feature project set in 1984 was to tell the true story of a
00:18Dallas girls soccer team that traveled to China and against all odds defeated some of the best
00:23women's teams in the world. McConaughey was to play coach Bill Kinder who led the team to
00:27victories over Australia, Japan and China and finally Italy in the championship game.
00:33Sources say Skydance and the producers received disturbing allegations surrounding aspects of
00:37the true story on which the drama was based. That investigation led Skydance and the producers
00:42to pull the plug according to sources. Booksmart breakout Caitlin Dever was cast as the coach's
00:48daughter and an extensive audition process was underway to find actual soccer players for the
00:53supporting roles. A source close to the decision noted Skydance and the producers were
00:57disappointed by the development as they felt the story of the 1984 team and its young women
01:02deserve to be told. For more on this story head to THR.com and for the latest entertainment news
