00:00The 21st season of South Park premiered on Wednesday, and as the show usually does, it touched
00:05on multiple current topics. The episode, titled White People Renovating Houses, mostly skewered
00:10the white nationalist movement. But it was another aspect of the storyline that triggered some
00:14viewers' smart speakers and had them tweeting about it. Both Alexa and Google Home were featured
00:19in the episode. As the cartoon characters were shown yelling at their cartoon speakers for 30
00:24minutes, the commands wreaked havoc on some actual Alexa and Google Home models. As one
00:29Twitter user put it,
00:30One viewer even had to resort to unplugging Alexa. This South Park episode has set my
00:40Amazon Alexa off about 15 times so far. And unfortunately for some viewers, the after effects
00:45may be felt for some time. South Park nailed it tonight. In other news, I have an erroneous
00:50alarm set for 7 a.m. and a set of hairy balls on my shopping list. So, was this all done
00:55on purpose? Well, it is South Park. It's also worth noting that the episode appeared
00:59to be a one-off, which is what creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker told The Hollywood Reporter
01:03they were thinking of going back to, after last season struggled with an overarching storyline
01:08involving a Trump-like character. Plus, Cartman's girlfriend was back, which Parker mentioned
01:12to THR as a possibility. For more on the new season of South Park, check out THR.com. And
