00:00Emmy winner Lena Waithe just landed a TBS deal, as the Turner-owned cable network has
00:05handed out a pilot order to Twenties.
00:08The single-camera comedy, created, written and executive produced by the master of none
00:12and the shy writer-actress, is based on her YouTube series of the same name.
00:17Twenties revolves around Hattie, a queer black girl and her two best friends Marie and Nina,
00:22who together spend their days talking shit and chasing their dreams.
00:26It explores friendship, finding love and, you know, screwing everything up along the way.
00:30Of the pilot order, Waithe said,
00:32I wrote Twenties back in 2009.
00:34I always wanted to tell a story where a queer black woman was the protagonist, and I'm so
00:39grateful to TBS for giving me a platform to tell this story.
00:42Queer black characters have been the sidekick for long enough.
00:45It's time for us to finally take the lead.
00:47This will be the second pilot for Twenties.
00:49Back in 2014, Waithe, who was then a comedian best known for the YouTube series Dear White
00:53People and a writer on Fox's Bones, scored a pilot order at Viacom's BET for the Combi.
00:59Flavor Unit produced it.
01:01The TBS deal for Twenties comes after Waithe's Emmy win for writing the Thanksgiving episode
01:06of Netflix's Master of None, which followed her characters coming out over multiple years.
01:11The Emmy made her the first African-American woman to win for comedy writing.
01:14She also scored an early season two renewal at Showtime for The Chi, which she created.
01:19For TBS, Twenties joins a pilot slate that also includes World's End.
01:24And if it moves to series, it would join a comedy-focused lineup that also includes Angie
01:29Tribeca, The Detour, The Guest Book, People of Earth, Search Party, Wrecked, The Last
01:34OG, and more.
01:35What do you think of Waithe's latest victory?
