A huge fireball erupted, sending flames up to 150 metres into the sky above the Kurrajong Road, North St Marys property on November 29, 2025.
Transcript
00:00Around 11 o'clock last night, triple zero calls were received about a fire in a facility in
00:13North St. Mary's. People in the surrounding area for many hundreds of meters would have heard the
00:17explosion. A large fireball came up out of the scene, erupted into the sky, probably a hundred,
00:24hundred and fifty meters above the scene, so a very intense event. And then firefighters in the
00:30vicinity of the fire were showered with rocks and debris as debris that had been dislodged from the
00:37explosion came showering down on top of them. This is as big as the fires get, particularly the scale
00:42of that explosion. People will be talking about that for a long time. Very significant demonstration
00:48of the ferocity of the fire and how quickly things can become very serious. Thankfully the
00:53firefighters have been able to sustain a really strong attack. We've had fire trucks from all
00:58across Sydney working here for several hours and there is several hours of work to come as well.
01:04So it'll be going well into the daylight hours of Sunday. So as some sort of a chemical recycling
01:10facility, a processing facility, there's a range of different chemicals stored or being handled on
01:16the site and obviously they will become involved in the fire. So having a good awareness of the
01:23hazardous materials element, an understanding of what we need to be focusing on and any of the
01:30potential consequences there has been front of mind for our incident management team.
