00:00Cindy Williams, the actress who played Shirley on the beloved ABC sitcom Laverne and Shirley, has died.
00:06She was 75.
00:07Williams died in Los Angeles on Wednesday after a brief illness.
00:11Her children, Zach and Emily Hudson, said in a statement,
00:14The passing of our kind, hilarious mother, Cindy Williams,
00:17has brought us insurmountable sadness that could never truly be expressed.
00:21Knowing and loving her has been our joy and privilege.
00:24She was one of a kind, beautiful, generous, and possessed a brilliant sense of humor
00:29and a glittering spirit that everyone loved.
00:31Laverne and Shirley, which aired from 1976 to 1983, was a spinoff of Happy Days
00:37and known for its fearless physical comedy.
00:39Williams and her co-star Penny Marshall never used stunt doubles,
00:43and according to Williams, the Stuntman's Association of Motion Pictures
00:47once named them Honorary Stuntman and gave them buckles.
00:50While Williams left Laverne and Shirley before its final season,
00:53her other television work included the 1990 comedy Normal Life
00:57and the sitcom Getting By, which aired from 1993 to 1994.
01:02In terms of films, Williams' work included roles in 1972's Travels with My Aunt,
01:071973's American Graffiti,
01:091974's The Conversation,
01:121975's Mr. Rico,
01:141976's The First Nudie Musical,
01:171979's More American Graffiti,
01:201991's Bingo,
01:21and 1997's Meet Wally Sparks.
01:24Hollywood took to social media to remember Williams.
01:26Ron Howard tweeted,
01:28Her unpretentious intelligence, talent, wit, and humanity impacted every character she created
01:34and person she worked with.
01:36We were paired as actors on six different projects,
01:39American Graffiti, a couple of dramas, and then Happy Days and Laverne and Shirley.
01:43Lucky me.
01:44Rest in peace, Cindy.
01:45Michael McKean, who played Lenny and Laverne and Shirley, tweeted,
01:48Backstage season one.
01:50I'm offstage waiting for a cue.
01:52The script's been a tough one, so we're giving it 110%, and the audience is having a great time.
01:57Cindy scoots by me to make her entrance and, with a glorious grin, says,
02:01Show's cookin'.

02:03And Henry Winkler shared in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter,
02:07Cindy has been my friend and professional colleague since I met her on the set of Happy Days in 1975.
02:13Not once have I ever been in her presence when she wasn't gracious, thoughtful, and kind.
02:17Cindy's talent was limitless.
02:19There was not a genre she could not conquer.
02:21I am so glad I knew her.
