Transcript
00:00James Gunn has set his sights on Superman.
00:02The filmmaker is officially making Superman Legacy his next directorial vehicle.
00:08Gunn has been writing the feature since before he became the co-head of DC Studios in November with Peter Safran.
00:13Superman Legacy will be the first big-screen feature of the Gunn-Safran era.
00:18Warner Bros. has the project slated for July 11, 2025.
00:22Gunn explained that he hesitated to take on a Superman movie,
00:25even though he was offered the character before ultimately taking on the Suicide Squad for Warner Bros.
00:30I initially said no because I didn't have a way in that felt unique and fun and emotional.
00:35That gave Superman the dignity he deserved.
00:38Then a bit less than a year ago, I saw a way in, in many ways centering around Superman's heritage.
00:43How both his aristocratic Kryptonian parents and his Kansas farmer parents inform who he is and the choices he makes.
00:50Notably, this Superman will be going in a younger direction
00:53and will not be played by Henry Cavill, the actor who portrayed the superhero in Man of Steel,
00:58Batman vs. Superman Dawn of Justice, Justice League,
01:01and who appeared in a cameo in last year's Black Adam.
01:04The feature is one of the projects Gunn and Safran teased as part of what they have dubbed
01:08Chapter 1, Gods and Monsters.
