Les Twins chat with THR at the MTV Video Music Awards and dish on what it was like to work with an icon like Beyoncé. Plus, they share their earliest memories of the MTV VMAs.
00:00Hi guys, how are we doing today? How does it feel to be here at the VMAs and being here with such an icon like Beyonce?
00:08Well, I can't speak about her too long. You know, I get read. No, no, I can't.
00:12It's not about not speaking about Beyonce. Last time I was at the VMAs, it was with her.
00:17True. That was our first job.
00:19Our first with Beyonce.
00:22Right now, here in New York City, representing us, the twins.
00:26Without her, joking.
00:26No, but it's a lot of memories. It feels great. It feels organic, you know?
00:35Well, there's been so many incredible memories of the VMAs. This is 40 years of the VMAs.
00:40What is one of your earliest memories or maybe like a performance that really stood out?
00:45What was that memory for you?
00:46You know, our favorite memories is when we were actually doing it.
00:49True. True.
00:49I cannot have anywhere else was actually doing it.
00:51True. True.
00:52I cannot have anywhere else was like the best thing I ever did.
00:56It was yours, of course. The one we did with her was the one that actually still, still, still, it's still the first picture on my Instagram.
01:03The one she grabbed my hair.
01:04Oh, you're right.
01:05There you go.
01:06Yeah. It was the one in Los Angeles. It was the VMAs in LA. We did a...
01:11We did a mix of many songs together.
01:13Many, many different songs.
01:14Oh, my.
01:14When she did mine, all those beautiful songs, you know?
01:17You remember when she changed from, like, Girls Around the World to, like, Flawless and Partitions? Like, that crazy change? That was that moment.
01:26That was that moment.
01:27That was that moment.
01:27And how would you describe working with someone like Beyoncé or Jay-Z and having the rapport and the friendship and relationship that you've grown to have with them?
01:36I think, to answer that very quick, I always knew we were special. Like, everyone is special. But sometimes light is bigger than all the lights. And, you know, like, we love to show up for real who we are. And she loves real things.
01:50So, I think we were just connected and never let each other go. That's all it is. Like, I was so happy to be in Renaissance.
01:58You can feel that on stage. It's just, as a performer, we're perfectionists.
02:02She's feeling my life. And I feel it in her life. So, I'm so happy. And I will keep doing that because that's my queen. I can do nothing about it. And my mom, of course.
02:12Were you guys able to choreograph Cowboy Carter? Like, any choreography for that? Or was there an approach to country music?
02:17The new album? The new album? We have. I did. I did, like, literally. I mean, I'm going to say I means us. But, like, mainly, like, I have so many ideas.
02:27She is very creative. And I love to surprise her. So, I'm not spoiling anything. If she needs it, she know we're here.
02:36And I also wanted to ask, she had one of the best and biggest country albums of the year. She was unfortunately snubbed at the CMAs. Do you have any thoughts around that or reaction to that?
02:45Well, just, my reaction is, whatever, what she's coming with, it's still going to be the top five, top three, top one in the world.
02:53She's so good. She changed every style. Today, she want to do reggae. She'll be the number one reggae song.
03:00So, listen, let her breathe because today is my day.
03:04And I also wanted to ask you guys, what do you have coming up the rest of the year? What are you excited about?
03:08What new projects that you're dropping? We have music coming up.
03:12So, we have, like, beautiful singles going to come out with, yeah, I'm just...
03:16We want to do some real visuals that Lily, like, got us into, like, it's different music.
03:21People are going to be a little surprised. But we love surprise.
