American Idol came to a close on Sunday night with a performance-filled, three-hour finale. It was down to Alejandro Aranda, Laine Hardy and Madison VanDenberg as the final three contestants.

00:15Lane Hardy. The ABC reality competition series came to a close on Sunday night with a
00:20performance-filled three-hour finale where Hardy was crowned the season 17 winner
00:24with Alejandro Aranda as the runner-up. Before the winner was announced, it was down to the
00:29final three contestants as Hardy along with Aranda and Madison Vandenberg performed various
00:34songs throughout the night, singing their hearts out one last time for the audience in
00:38order to fight to take the top spot. Vandenberg performed Shallow from A Star Is Born and
00:43Breakaway by Kelly Clarkson during the finale, but halfway through the night it was announced
00:47that she was the lowest vote-getter, eliminating her from the competition and putting her in
00:51third place. But she did come back later in the show to perform Speechless with Dan and Shay.

01:06The final two was down to Aranda and Hardy, who both duped it out with their performances.
01:11Aranda performed multiple original songs throughout the night, reiterating how special
01:15he is as both a performer and a songwriter on the show.
01:28The finale was in full swing with judges, artists and former Idol stars taking the stage as well.
01:33Lionel Richie got the night started with a performance of Dancing on the Ceiling.
01:37Katy Perry joined Daddy Yankee on stage for a performance of Konkama and performed unconditionally
01:42with Idol contestant Jeremiah Lloyd Harmon. Luke Bryan performed Knocking Boots as well as a
01:47duet of Every Breath You Take with Lacey K. Boots. Idol runner-up Adam Lambert sang his new
01:52song, New Eyes and former Idol winner Carrie Underwood took the finale stage to sing her new
01:57song, Southbound. But in the end it was Hardy who shined on Sunday night, performing Home by
02:02Marc Broussard, Jambalaya by Hank Williams and Bring It On Home to Me by Sam Cooke.
02:07The Idol winner also performed his original song Flame after being crowned, which will
02:11likely be his first single.
