00:00Yeah, so in the last couple of hours, we have seen those storms ramping up once again across parts of the Central Highlands and Coldfield Central West and now pushing towards parts of the East Coast as well.
00:12So predominantly, these storms are bringing the risk of heavy rainfall that could lead to flash flooding.
00:17But through the course of this afternoon, we may see some damaging wind gusts becoming a risk across the southeast too.
00:23So another busy thunderstorm day ahead for Queensland.
00:27Unfortunately, it is coinciding with our Christmas Day.
00:29So our reminder to all communities across Queensland is just keep an eye on the radar.
00:34Keep an eye out for those thunderstorm warning updates that will be issued throughout the afternoon to keep yourself and your family as safe as possible.
00:40And just had a look at the cyclone track map that the Bureau puts out for cyclone grants.
00:45It looks like it's hitting the Cocos Keeling Islands right now.
00:48And it looks like it shouldn't be too bad because it's remained a Category 1.
00:55That's exactly right.
00:56But it is still at least 30 or 40 k's to the northwest of the Cocos Keeling Islands at the moment.
01:02So not a direct hit on the islands, fortunately, but moving to the west and moving away from the Cocos Islands through the next few hours.
01:10Now, we're continuing to see that risk of heavy rainfall over the area and the risk of damaging wind gusts continuing for the next hour or two, just as this Category 1 tropical cyclone continues to move away.
01:22But we should see an easing trend in these weather impacts through the later part of this afternoon.
01:26So it is good news in that we are now on the other side of this cyclone moving close by.
01:32But the risk is still going to be ongoing for the next couple of hours.
01:36And how's the heat developing through WA today?
01:39Unfortunately, it's developing very well.
01:44Very hot conditions already across much of the west coast and through the southwest.
01:48As you mentioned, hitting nine o'clock already over 30 degrees in many places, including around Perth, heading for a top of 40 degrees in Perth today.
01:57Temperatures in the high 30s to low 40s across much of the west coast, in fact.
02:01And it's not just the heat and the heat waves that are a concern.
02:04It's also those high to extreme fire danger ratings and the risk of potentially dry and gusty thunderstorms through this afternoon.
02:12It's really a very dangerous situation for any storms that are ongoing or that may start up in the landscape.
02:17So it's just a reminder, again, to our communities on the west coast to stay safe this Christmas Day and act sensibly, particularly around that fire and heat risk.
02:27And a very different story over in Victoria and Tassie.
02:30There was a suggestion yesterday there might even be some snow in Tassie above 700 metres.
02:35Any signs of that yet?
02:37And does it look like Melbourne's only going to get to 17?
02:42Yeah, we have seen some snow across parts of Tasmania, mainly across those higher peaks through the west and south.
02:48But a white Christmas for some.
02:50Not terribly unheard of for this time of year if we get a strong cold front coming through.
02:55But still, it is pretty special.
02:57Hobart only heading for a top of 15 degrees today.
02:59Still pretty chilly across our southernmost state.
03:02For Victoria, we are still expecting that top of 17 degrees.
03:05If we don't push higher than that, it will be the coolest Christmas day since 2006.
03:10So all around the southeast is looking a very different story to the west coast.
03:13So all around the coast.
03:29So all around the coast, I'm pretty sure it's still on one species.
03:30How many?
03:32So all around the coast.
03:32And, you know, we want to always say what I'm buying at all places.
