Transcript
00:00The Mandalorian's Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni are opening up about George Lucas's reaction
00:14to the series, keeping Baby Yoda a secret, and resuming production amid COVID-19. Filoni,
00:20who's considered by many fans to be Lucas's heir apparent, says the filmmaker has been
00:24very complimentary. I think he's enjoyed the show, and he said once that now he gets to watch
00:28it as a fan and watch it as a viewer. My job is to bring that knowledge forward and pass on what I've
00:33learned from him in every discipline to Jon and to the creative departments.
00:37As for Baby Yoda, Filoni says,
00:39It seemed like everyone just fell in love with this little guy that we had known from the shoot.
00:43Favreau says keeping Baby Yoda, known in the series as the child, a secret was intentional.
00:48I thought it was very important to establish that there were going to be surprises. When you're
00:51promoting a film, you're putting your best stuff out there in the marketing campaign
00:55because you want everybody to show up that Friday. Television is different. You want to be able to
00:59build. You want word of mouth to spread. You want people to tune in and know that something is going
01:04to happen that they're going to want to talk about. And when it comes to filming a potential third season
01:09amid COVID-19 restrictions, Favreau says the fact that the set is much more contained is a benefit
01:14because you can limit the number of people. We also shoot a lot outside, which is helpful too.
01:19And added,
01:19We use cinematic tools in VR much the same way we did for The Lion King and The Jungle Book.
01:24A lot of times the actors you're seeing on screen aren't actually there on set.
