00:00the reason we wanted to talk to you today is to take you back to Tuesday
00:06was your wife at home that day yeah she's in the kitchen making that everything ready for
00:13the tamales then she come and tell me that she's gonna go to the store she said I'll be back in
00:20a little bit okay so the information we got was that you and your wife had some fights recently
00:26what do you know about South Bend Indiana Steve to me the salt of the earth I like the Midwest
00:47hard-working people here a couple of good universities here I'm kind of surprised that
00:51the number of unsolved murders and stuff yeah they have a lot they have a lot there are over
00:56100 unsolved cold cases here in South Bend Indiana and law enforcement has asked us for help so Steve
01:03and I are here to look into the 2007 murder of Delia Lerma Delia was only 33 and at the time she had four
01:12kids yeah she was a stay-at-home mom Delia was known for her love of her children her church and her
01:19cooking her husband Lucio was allegedly very controlling and there were rumors that their
01:25marriage was in trouble the story goes that Delia was making tamales and ran to the grocery store to
01:31get more masa to make tamales and she never comes home and she's missing four days before they find the
01:37van she's got two stab wounds that penetrate everything liver heart and how does she end up in
01:42the back back seat I don't know where yeah Delia died in her husband Lucio's van with her wedding
01:47ring pulled off and discarded beside her he quickly became the prime suspect in this case and some
01:52believe his two brothers may have been involved or knew more about the homicide the biggest challenge
01:57is gonna be getting witnesses to talk to us it seems like most of the family is scared when you take a
02:03look at Lucio's family I mean this is they make the Mafia look like Boy Scouts kind of sticky already
02:13feels good come on come on how's it going oh I'm Craig Woodson I'm the lieutenant of the detective
02:25nice to meet you sir I'm Kayla Miller yes I'm a big fan we're excited to be here tell us about
02:32your town 105,000 people it is quaint but we do have our share of violent crimes you know this one
02:39has potential this one's got some good luck yeah yeah I'm glad that you all are here to help us out
02:44that's a pretty big deal to us and more importantly to the family can't wait to dig into it yeah yeah
02:50Delia Lerma was a very kind-hearted person and this case has haunted the South Bend community as a
02:56whole and I think it was especially hard on the Hispanic community all right we got ready to get
03:01to work ready to get to work my wife's sister was murdered here in South Bend in 2006 so I know
03:07firsthand what the family's going through and it becomes a little more personal where you want
03:14to start on December 4th 2007 Delia Lerma mama 4 33 years old left home about 2 o'clock in the
03:22afternoon to go to the grocery store and never came home according to her husband Lucio he came home
03:29early from work that day and Delia was in the process of making tamales he said that she left
03:35to go to the store to buy some masa and he stayed home with the kids hours later her family called the
03:42police and went for four days and there was no sign of Delia then on December 8th about 9 30 in the
03:50morning her van was located about a mile and a half from her home the key was on out of gas she was found
03:58in the back stabbed twice about the mid abdomen area it went up and it hit the heart and spleen and
04:07diaphragm and she lay there and bled to death her ring was found in the van as well on the floor near
04:17the console huh which I thought was interesting there's a lot of questions about how the crime
04:23was carried out but we do know when it occurred just hours after Delia was reported missing a snowstorm
04:28rolled in when the van was recovered several days later there was snow on top of it however there was no
04:33snow under it indicating that it had been there at the time of the snowstorm that suggests that she
04:38had been killed within hours of being reported missing so why don't we just start with Lucio talk
04:44about what kind of a man he was you know she would just talk about to her friends and closest relatives
04:50that he's abusive and controlling and controlling all kinds of ways all aspects everything yeah friends
04:58he's probably always been suspicious of her maybe too but she is allegedly cheating on him yeah and
05:05she was hiding a phone that was recovered at autopsy after the murder witnesses said that they knew that
05:11Delia was having an affair the details are kind of fuzzy but one witness said it had been going on behind
05:18Lucio's back for two years could he have found out and would that have been his motive the other weird
05:24thing that you pick up on is when you read the kids interviews how they don't really know what
05:29the hell happened that day because they're young they're not paying attention but the one thing they
05:33are consistent on is my dad was with us the whole time my dad was with us the whole time no prosecutor
05:39would use any of those kids as a witness they've always been on daddy's team Lucio remains the best
05:45suspect but the question is are his brothers also involved in this the case file is full of witness
05:53statements about their alleged criminal behavior there's even a chilling rumor about a body buried on
06:01their family property Antonio does have drug convictions and Manuel has one for unlawfully carrying a weapon
06:09but the other claims are unsubstantiated what's really clear is that the witnesses are afraid of Lucio's
06:16family and Manuel is the one she was allegedly having the affair with okay so this is Manuel he
06:24used to come and visit for weeks at a time okay and he and Delia would hang out while Lucio's at work he
06:30was where on the fourth he was in Michigan he's alibied out by two people he didn't know until the
06:37fifth that she was missing and he was really upset they said he really was crying yeah he was more upset
06:42than Lucio did he admit the affair no he did not he's still denying the affair yes Manuel denied the
06:48affair was living out of state and his alibi checked out so he couldn't have stabbed Delia but he's still
06:54at the center of the story and possibly at the center of Lucio's motive we have to consider that he had
06:59some involvement or knew more than he told the police last but not least we have the brother still
07:04in Texas Antonio I was thinking that Antonio helped yeah there's a possibility he was he was
07:11there also how would you think he would have helped in what way perhaps getting her into the van in the
07:17first place her mother says that one of the first people at the house when she goes missing is Antonio I
07:24thought that was really strange and this is the brother that allegedly told Delia I want you dead yeah
07:29why why does he hate her that much well so my thought was you know had heard from Lucio that
07:35she's having an affair and right so that why or was it a really good question Antonio lived in Texas
07:41but Delia's mother says she saw him at the house in that time period before Delia's body was found
07:49there's no clear motive for why he would have wanted to kill Delia on his own but could he have helped
07:55Lucio commit the crime or possibly cover it up we have a lot to figure out here the fact that
08:15Delia was allegedly having an affair is an uncomfortable detail of this case does it mean
08:20we don't work the case just as hard hell no it's just a fact that we have to deal with
08:25put it in perspective and move forward how worried or scared or apprehensive is Delia's sister we're
08:35about to meet she did seem a little concerned when I talked to her on the phone because of the family
08:40connection and you know and who all's involved we reached out to Delia's mom but she is too scared
08:47to talk to us the good news though is that Delia had four brothers and sisters and her sister Leti
08:54has flown in today from Texas to talk to us hello Miss Leti hello well I'm Kelly nice to meet you
09:03we're happy to meet you in person thank you so when he called you to tell you he was opening the case
09:10up again you were excited I guess yes I didn't tell my mom right away I waited a few weeks how come
09:16because I know that she's scared she's she's scared that something might happen to us and she always
09:21said leave it to God I don't want to I just don't want any one of you getting trouble I don't want
09:26anything to happen to any one of you but I told her I was like mommy regardless of what I say they
09:31already working on the case and it's not because of me that's true they working on the case so we
09:35just came to sit and talk to you and just kind of get an idea on what Delia was like as a sister
09:41what can I tell you she was a great person we grew up in a farm in Mexico no running water no electricity
09:48until I was 17 at a very young age she started cooking so she was very caring especially towards my mom
09:55what would she say about Delia I think she will say that she was the closest because even though
10:07we were all together Delia was very special to my mom when she passed away there was a lot of pain
10:14we saw my mom broke down so many times it was very hard it was I guess the hardest thing that I have to
10:22endure what can you tell us about Delia's marriage to Lucio how'd they meet Delia came to school in
10:30Donna Texas I know Donna she started going to high school and that's where she met Lucio and they
10:36become high school sweethearts so how'd they get along when they first got married they had good years
10:41of marriage then he wanted to have control of everything and anything like he wanted to have control of
10:47of Delia in every sense on everything I was never able to have a conversation with Delia in private
10:53not even you no oh no her sister Delia's alleged affair with Lucio's brother is easy to judge but
11:02Delia's life was so controlled by Lucio that the only people she was allowed to interact with were her own
11:09children her mother and sometimes depending on how Lucio wanted to control the situation his family
11:15talking with Leti makes us truly appreciate her situation in life a lot more okay so now we get
11:22to December the 4th 2007 how did Lucio act what happened in the house when they realize that she's
11:29not coming home from the grocery store walk us through that his expected reaction will be anger
11:33like he's upset because she's not here and my mom said he was calm and he wasn't upset he's not calling
11:40her friends no no no do you know anything that could have started an argument between them that
11:47day no I cannot no I don't want to put it on Lucio up to this day I still have hope that he had nothing
11:55to do with it I see you really I do Wow if we lost too much today we lost not being close to the kids
12:04them growing up away from us it's gonna be so hard for them to also lose his dad yeah yeah yeah I know
12:16it's hard a lot to go through I think it's time to get justice yeah it's now or never that's how I feel
12:26I think that Leticia is nervous she's scared she really loved her sister and it hurt her to see how
12:36much control Lucio had over her I think we made her feel better that we're gonna try really hard to
12:43do something with her sister's case I hope so it was nice to meet you thank you so much for everything
12:48see you again soon okay okay
12:56so I heard that we got a van we can play around with today and you appreciate how small it was in
13:07the back of it huh yeah it's not really a seat you know it's not like a safety yeah I didn't get that
13:12I don't realize that either it falls down I guess for some storage area Delia Lerma was stabbed to
13:17death in her husband Lucio's van back in 2007 when the van was through being processed they returned it
13:24to Lucio's family at some point after that Lucio's brother drove it back home to Texas so we got a
13:31van as similar as possible that we're going to talk about and go over everything today is that our van
13:37that's it nice and sketchy morning hey morning scored us a van huh yeah it's very similar to uh what
13:47the victim was found in parked in front of a rental property the house was vacant at the time the keys
13:53were in the opposition it was out of gas battery was dead and it sits there for four days yeah how
13:59does that happen it kind of just blended in Lucio told the police that Delia drove his van to the
14:06market that day to buy some more masa for the tamales she had started making and that she was going to
14:11use his wallet to pay for the masa because he said he left his wallet in the van how much money did
14:18you have your wallet about 50 bucks your wife carry a purse no she left the purse on the house
14:24the purse is in the house yes okay when the van was found there was no masa and there was no wallet
14:30inside so those were the first indicators that Lucio's story didn't quite add up how does this start
14:36how do you think she gets in the van I mean he's going to be the driver right right and he somehow
14:42gets her in that day somehow she's inside the van the simplest theory is that a confrontation
14:47between the two of them began at the house and since the kids were home Lucio persuaded Delia to go
14:54for a ride do you have any theories on it I think there's a couple scenarios that could take place I
14:59think she may have been forced into the back of the van okay do you think she ever got in the front
15:04seat to go somewhere to a grocery store or anywhere it always started with her getting in right here
15:09well I think there's a possibility she was in the front seat right and they're driving down the road
15:14and then they started arguing so let's just pretend that's the beginning of the story you're five six
15:19yes can you be the driver and I'm five four so I'm the same as Delia so let me be her in the front
15:24y'all think he has the knife on him wearing it or what I think he had it with him okay so do
15:32y'all have a thought on how we get from here to back there he could have just told her to get back
15:36there I think she would have done it okay so the ring ends up where again between the front seats
15:41right by the console I think she throws it off and this is it I think he takes it off I think he
15:46sticks her he pulls it off her finger and just slings it I don't know if Lucio had discovered Delia's
15:52alleged affair with Manuel it could have sparked the argument and been the motive for the killing it
15:57might also explain her wedding ring whether she was angry at him or he felt betrayed by her
16:01so far nothing supports the theory that Lucio's brother Antonio was there so he just somehow
16:08forces her back there with or without the knife right okay so she can get back there right and
16:13then is she gonna just all the way back here her one leg was up leaning up against the chair and her
16:18other one was between the seats she had fingernail scrapings on the right side of her cheek is this
16:23the right way yes that's like that he's just like pushing her face away or shutting her up or what's
16:28doing yeah she could be screaming and what have you screaming to shut her up okay so he pushes me
16:34back like that and then and that leg is out like this anyway yeah and that gets your angle it's the
16:42angle definitely it hits major organ she's disabled pretty quickly there I mean she's bleeding to death
16:46there's no blood outside there's no blood entering into the van you know there's no blood spat or anything
16:50inside of this it all happened right there in that seat so it's all happening it all happens
16:54it was very private happens in here in the spot where the van ended up being parked or he drove the
16:59van there after he did that could be either way that I think it was just all spontaneous this just
17:04happened I don't think this was a planned deal what about the clothing well she is wearing a kitchen
17:08apron she has stabbed through the apron and then her pants were pulled down and then her underwear
17:14pulled off to the side that's weird that's just that's just yeah and we also note that all
17:19happened after she'd been stabbed because there's smeared blood on her underwear okay Delia's
17:24panties were pulled to the side what does that mean could it have been someone trying to stage an
17:31attempted sexual assault was the killer just trying to humiliate her one more time possibly but I'm
17:38wondering if we're missing something so after she stabbed how do you think it happens he left and
17:43started walking got to get out of there left everything running yeah he probably went right out
17:49that door left everything the way it was the timeline here is that we know Delia left her
17:53house at about 2 o'clock p.m. and that her mother arrived home at 4 o'clock to find Lucio there if Lucio
17:59killed Delia that gives him roughly a two-hour window assuming his brother was in town he could
18:03have called Antonio for a ride home but Lucio could have also walked home in about 30 minutes I'm thinking
18:09there's only one guy who did this nothing makes sense with his story here I think he left work early that
18:14day on purpose he might not have thought I'm gonna kill her today but he was worked up he comes home
18:19that day mad you and your wife get along pretty well yes you argue a lot no no we never do that much you
18:38know I mean just normally for where you go where you be you know would you consider your marriage to be a good one
18:47I consider real good when questioned by the police Delia Lerma's husband Lucio claimed that the marriage
18:55was in good standing but witnesses claim she was having a secret affair with Lucio's brother Manuel if
19:01Lucio found out about that could that have been the motive in this killing and what we'd like to do is
19:05take a statement from you I need to record it can we just have a seat in the car while it's looking
19:09at Lucio committed this crime alone he remains extremely tight with his family the best chance
19:14we have I feel right now is to talk to his co-workers who might be the most credible window into his world
19:19and hopefully aren't afraid to talk to us and tell us what they know Lucio came in as a temp I worked with
19:25him Lou did primarily bodywork he'd sand things down reprime it and just on repair work that we had in our
19:33division but back then he was suspecting his wife was was up to no good cheating on him or something
19:40I had hooked up cameras and stuff for some of the other units and he said well maybe you come to my
19:47house and install cameras for me I said yeah I'm not really I don't have time to do all that he said
19:53that he wanted a tap put on his phone so he could listen to his wife's phone calls I told him no I thought
20:01it was odd he wanted to know how to spy on his wife to see if she was cheating it sounds like Lucio
20:06wanted to catch Delia in the act and in fact when questioned by police admitted to tape recording her
20:11phone calls but claims it was only to hear her conversations with her disapproving family so
20:16you're recording her phone conversations with her family
20:19yeah for uh not in things coming from another you know but nothing important and then one day she
20:27catch me you know and we destroy that that recording you have any of those tapes no we break in that tape you
20:35know and we throw them away to me and the guy that I was uh working on doing a security company with
20:42uh Lucio had hired him to follow his wife because she was supposed to be cheating on him I had
20:48followed her around for a while found out she was messing with some guy this witness didn't know who
20:52Delia was having an affair with but he confirmed that Lucio knew I can only imagine how anyone would
20:58take that news but especially a guy like Lucio he went back and told Lucio about it and it was
21:03amazing that the next day she was found inside a van couple blocks from the house dead the day before she
21:09was found murdered about this other guy it was definitely within a week span of her being found
21:16and uh I haven't seen or heard from Lucio since
21:19our department was uh actually short-staffed so they said we're gonna try to get you some help
21:27Lucio they had him working on the other side of the plant so they brought him to me so we were just
21:32standing there talking you know he told me he's a Christian he told me that you know he's a good guy
21:38and he's married and he's got kids and stuff and then he's like man I got this friend and his wife
21:44is thinking about taking off and leaving him with the kids and what do you think he should do he said
21:50do you think he should do something to her or kill her I said no I said you can't do that kind of stuff I
21:55said you could go through that process legally and you guys could have to share the right so you
22:00have what if she takes the kids and leave and or what if he you know moves out and he just kept going
22:06on about it but what if he stabbed her and he got rid of the knife and if he wore gloves and he got
22:10rid of the murder weapon you know I didn't even feel comfortable talking to him but the only advice
22:15I could give him is just tell your friend don't do that you know and then after hearing that somebody
22:22else said did you hear what happened to Lucio's wife they found her stabbed in a van so are you
22:27serious and I said wow that's what I actually put it together because it was too specific and it was
22:33too on point of the way they described this finding her it was just too specific all murderers talk it
22:42just depends upon who they talk to they want to lay things out they want to explain things Lucio lays
22:47out step by step the homicide that his friend plans on how to kill his girlfriend and it's like oh my god
22:54he had too many details about that murder
22:57did you suspect your wife of being in any kind of a relationship with anybody else no she's talking
23:11too much with my brother and but what's your brother's name my man so you didn't think your wife
23:18was involved with your brother at all no no yes why not anybody else nobody I don't I know for sure
23:27that that's my wife the evidence is mounting that Lucio Lerma killed his wife Delia after finding out
23:36that she may have possibly been having an affair with his brother Manuel but we need to hear from
23:41her friends and family and hope that they're not too afraid to tell us what they actually know did
23:45Delia ever talk to you about her relationship with Lucio he was brutal how did she explain that
23:52that he will abuse her sexually I will ask if this he forces you and she said yes
23:58she will cry a lot I always tell her you should go and say what he's doing to you and she said I'm
24:06afraid of him she said she wanted to leave him but he won't let her go Lucio has never been charged
24:13with sexual assault however if some of these accusations are true it just goes to the true
24:18character of what he really is and it speaks to the control he exerted over Delia and I need to tell
24:25you everything I know she was going out with her husband's brother okay for probably like two years
24:35they were having an affair right that was Manuel I think she mentioned Manuel right I always talk to
24:43her that she shouldn't be doing that but she said but I love him she was so afraid the husband find out
24:53about her affair with the brother-in-law right because he was putting a recorder machine under the bed when
25:02he was not there and he was so obsessing I would say she was telling me she wants to go out like with
25:11girlfriends but the husband never let her to go by herself either go with one child or the whole thing
25:19you know but never go out by herself right and when she was going somewhere and come back the husband
25:29get her in the bathroom or in the bedroom make her take clothes off and then check at the private parts
25:37and go in the smelling you know see this really something weird according to this witness there's
25:45no way that Lucio would have let Delia leave her house alone without some type of an escort like he said
25:50he did on the day of the murder but more disturbingly he reportedly would smell her private parts to indicate
25:56whether she had been with another man at the crime scene Delia's body was found with her underwear
26:00pulled to the side could that have been the reason why in Texas when they were single they still see
26:06break and she was telling me about this guy that likes Delia and Lucio burned the car of this man
26:12you know things like that that she would tell me now do you remember the day that she disappeared
26:19yes I even got off from work like 3 or 3 30 and me and my sister went to Delia's house
26:27and she's not here it seemed like she started making tamales that live here because she had
26:34everything on the table she had like seven tamales already you know done and my sister asked Lucio
26:42where we're there yeah right said she went to the store to buy something you know that she needed
26:47for the tamales my sister said that sounds weird you know because she had everything and she already
26:53had started making the tamales and then so many hours passed and she never came back my husband asked
27:03Lucio did you call the police he said no I haven't called the police did he seem uh really concerned
27:10to panicked or no no no we never see him like worrying about her you know he wasn't worried at
27:17all so what have you heard hanging around the family paying attention all these years I know that um
27:24before she went missing Delia's family was supposed to come to visit her that Christmas she was leaving
27:32to Texas with them because she wasn't happy there anymore she's gonna finally leave yes he tell you
27:38that he did he didn't like that idea not only could Lucio have been angry about Delia's alleged affair now
27:46we find out that Delia was also planning on moving her family back to Texas around Christmas time which
27:55would have happened just weeks after she was killed did you ever notice how much Lucio did anything with
28:01knives did he ever carry a knife he always has knives he never leaves the house without knives what
28:08about the the day she was found how did you find out about that we were at the church so we receive a
28:15call and then we came right at the church to the house did you go with Lucio at some point to where the
28:22van was I don't know if I mentioned this on the first time they talked to me um but I I remember clearly
28:32when we were walking from the van where Dele was found to our car okay that he say I didn't want to do
28:40this Lucio said this yes what were the words he said I didn't want to do this okay I would never
28:49want to do this this is brand new information it's just like asking his co-workers about hypothetically
28:55killing someone did you ever ask him what that meant no I didn't even want to ask him nothing Lucio
29:02just keeps opening his mouth and he can't help himself every time he does circumstantial evidence
29:06continues to come out he kind of blows my mind he says Lucio murmurs I didn't want to do this wow so
29:15that's as close as you're ever going to get to a confession you know yeah it sure is wow
29:22that's pretty dang big guys that's a huge comment right there yeah yeah
29:36I think the interview from yesterday really set the stage for what we need to do and we're all
29:47agreeing that talking to the other Lerma brothers before after Lucio is not going to get us anywhere
29:51yeah think about it we only have one chance here if we go to Lucio first he's going to warn his brothers
29:58if we go to his brothers first they're going to warn him so we only have one shot at this point there is
30:05no evidence directly pointing to Lucio's brothers so we should take our first shot at Lucio if you go
30:12to his house and he's home you know he's not going to invite you in you know he's probably not going to
30:17get in the van but they do sometimes so whatever he says to you today might be your last best shot
30:23yep I think it is right today's the day Lucio Lerma he's known for a while now that I've been
30:32investigating this case and he's never called me back he's never called me just to find out if you
30:39know hey is there anything new you can add nothing like that he just stays off in the shadows but
30:46anybody that loved Delia Lerma should be willing to sit down with me and have a conversation they
30:52love the victim and they want to see the case solved that would be my hope some of the information we got
30:57was that you and your wife hadn't been getting along real well that you'd had some fights recently
31:04things like that yeah okay I don't know exactly or why did this happen you know how or how what is
31:13they here you know that that's I don't know oh hey Lucio how you doing how you doing hey I'm I'm
31:26Detective Craig with you with the PD good how you doing today good good hey so uh we you have just
31:32a few minutes let me talk no no you have just a few minutes that we can talk I'm eating right now
31:37because I gotta go we won't keep you long what's going on well we want to talk to you about Delia's
31:42case we're trying to we're trying to yeah we're trying to get you know trying to get to the bottom of
31:47that for you so tell us a little bit about the day of that this happened well I already told you
31:54that's the first time I came from work she went to the store yeah but what for what you want to go to
32:01the store for uh for tamales uh mixing so what so for masa for masa yes okay uh so but didn't she
32:11already have some masa there where at the house at that time we have she got already done but I
32:17think if she over passed with water and it make it so soft and then she got to put some more so why
32:24do you think her purse was left at the house what what purse I mean the person should the person should
32:30care if she goes I'll give you some money I'll give you a $50 bill so she can provide masa so so what
32:39kind of problems were you having in your marriage at that time were you afraid of her leaving you
32:43or were you having an argument or never no never we got problems you ever think Manuel was having an
32:49affair with your wife what is that sex sex you think they were having sex with your wife no you make
32:58me think that why you know you're asking too much questions that I don't even know why you I mean
33:04asking me that you know so no no I don't think I don't know no me not from friends that much you
33:11know I don't know what happened and so that's what I'm saying if you ever heard the term a fight or
33:17flight that's what he is he's dancing around with us you know he's got his hand on the door then at one
33:21point he walks over and picks up a baseball cap I'm sure that's the most important thing right now
33:25let's put a baseball cap on and he doesn't want to really come out and he doesn't really want to
33:28go back in so he's trying to fish to see what we know it's kind of fun to watch it you remember
33:34talking to a guy oh your tiller master about your friend who had a girlfriend thinking about leaving
33:38him and he was gonna stab her and what yeah yeah remember that no you never said that I never say
33:47that okay okay I'm done I'm done okay I'm done all right thank you I think that the specificity
33:57about those questions talking to somebody at utility master that just took him off of his
34:01game plan because he's been in control for the past 19 years and he shut that down right after
34:06that so that tells me a lot about he knows that we're closing in on him right now he tried to turn
34:11around a couple of times but he's interested in what we got you know what I'm saying yeah he
34:16wants to know what we got I'm actually kind of pleased with that interview are you feeling about
34:31this good yeah you know I think it's come together definitely prosecutable let's see if they're thinking
34:37the same thing we are right good morning morning morning one more day one more day so now that we've
34:46been through all this and talked to everybody what are y'all's thoughts on is anybody else involved
34:51specifically Antonio or Manuel or anybody else I don't believe they are we found nothing that would
34:58indicate that either of those two were involved Manuel was in Michigan two people alibi him Antonio
35:04does have a criminal history but there's no indications he was up here there's no witness there's
35:09no evidence that puts Antonio anywhere near our murder scene we feel like trying to talk to Manuel or Antonio
35:17would be not helpful to the case and probably impossible even though Delia's mom said that she saw
35:25Antonio after Delia went missing we got to remember it was after she went missing so we don't have anything at this
35:33time that directly points to either of the brothers I feel really good about you know taking them off the list and
35:41focusing more on someone that had the ability and the motive all right focus in on Lucio he was so worried about
35:51her cheating on him taping her phone calls hiring people to follow her sniffing her body when she
35:57comes home the husband made her take clothes off and then check that the private part and go in the
36:04smelling you know see this really something weird and even back in high school the first boy that thought
36:12Delia was pretty what did Lucio allegedly do he burned his car in the car yeah so this is the kind of
36:18man we're talking about he isolated her from girlfriends even from her own family we think
36:25she's having an affair but the reason for the affair seems to be that he was so controlling and so
36:30horrible to her that she's looking elsewhere for people that actually understand her she said I'm
36:36afraid she said she wanted to leave him but he won't let her go all this time all these years why now
36:44she's about to leave him and go to Texas and take the kids Delia's family was supposed to come to visit
36:51her that Christmas she was leaving to Texas with them because she wasn't happy there anymore she's
36:59gonna finally leave yes he even has enough gall to run it by a friend the Utila master exactly how his
37:06friend has this laid out I mean it is like mirroring this whole entire situation here he had too many
37:13details about that murder what do we know about that day what happens Lucio leaves work early unusual
37:19yeah he's gonna take care of the kids why she suddenly runs to the store to get more massive and
37:24leave her apron on but wait she forgot her purse so she didn't have any money uh later he says my wallet
37:33was left in the van do you really believe that she doesn't come home for an hour or two hours and
37:39how's he acting he's acting like nothing's wrong doesn't want to call the police her family has to
37:44call the police man who sniffs her every day yes my husband asked Lucio did you call the police he said
37:51no I haven't called the police he wasn't worried at all and then you get to the way she's found in
37:57the van that wedding ring that's sitting right there on the floor do you think some random stranger
38:02bother you take her ready to nail them off her finger and throw it to the front of the van come
38:05on that was symbolic of that marriage that's what that was and say again what did he tell
38:11he was walking away from the crime scene he said I didn't want to do this I remember clearly that he
38:19said I didn't want to do this and I would never want to do this and when you interviewed him today in
38:252025 what did he say about their marriage oh he said it was awesome were you afraid of her leaving you
38:30or no having an argument or never no never we got problems so when you put all this together how do
38:38you feel about your case I really like it because so many of the pieces just slide right together I
38:43think issue and arrest one is that what happens next yeah okay I mean this is our last chance I
38:47think sometimes you get the no body homicides and those are really hard but this isn't it's just a
38:53common sense case this isn't DNA it isn't going to be fingerprints it isn't going to be eyewitnesses
39:00unfortunately we wouldn't be here this is a common sense case where you put all the evidence together
39:05the totality of all of it it goes right back to Lucio so you're gonna set your prosecutor meeting today
39:11yeah yeah well let us know so we will get out how it goes we'll let you know I've got my hopes up it's time
39:17y'all ready yeah yeah yeah Craig and Gary met with their district attorney so now we want to update
39:36Delia sister letty about all the progress we made this week on the case you doing okay this morning
39:41yes don't be nervous are you nervous you don't need to be nervous so we've had a busy week I heard
39:49that we've done a lot of interviews rehashed a lot of things that were there yesterday we had a meeting
39:54with the prosecutor and he asked a lot of questions which is a good thing okay yeah it's a good thing he
40:02wanted to make sure he understood the case so he is looking for a little bit more information from us
40:07but he is willing to take a really hard look into the case and we believe there's a lot of pieces that
40:14all come together that point one direction and those pieces point at Lucio by himself we went back to
40:27those old people that were friends of your sisters and even though they still are afraid of him or
40:34working they all talk oh yes everybody was very supportive I mean they're they were nervous just just
40:41like you just like everybody but they were very happy that we were we were looking into this she was
40:48loving a lot of people that's what we've gathered from anybody that we've spoken with it means a lot to
40:54know that there's people that still care that's a family well you think about your loved ones almost
41:00daily even when they're gone but it feels good to know that people still remembers her that it wasn't
41:06she hasn't been forgotten it means a lot it means the world and these guys are here for you to try and
41:17get to the finish line they're not going to give up thank you we really really appreciate it I feel
41:23like my mom she needs a closure even though she's reluctant right now because she's scared I feel like
41:28why she knows that there was justice for her daughter she will feel better yeah you keep praying okay you
41:33tell your mama to keep praying thank you thank you thank you it says a lot that Delia's friends and family as scared as they truly were they still
41:39came
41:54we'll stay on it thank you it says a lot that Delia's friends and family as scared as they
42:02truly were. They still came forward and told us everything they could about the case because
42:07they love Delia and they know that what happened to her is a horrible miscarriage of justice.
42:13It's time for her case to move forward and for Delia to get her justice.
