00:00The death toll from severe flooding in southern Thailand has risen to more than 80 people as floodwaters began to recede on Thursday, according to officials.
00:12About one million households and more than three million people have been impacted by the floods, triggered by torrential rains in 12 southern provinces in Thailand.
00:22Earlier this week, Thailand's Prime Minister declared a state of emergency in the Songkhla province, one of the most affected areas.
00:28In the province's largest city of Hatiai, thousands of people were trapped as floodwaters submerged entire areas.
00:37Many people also lost access to critical services like electricity, water and telecommunications.
00:44Eight field hospitals were established to support Hatiai Hospital, which remained unable to operate at full capacity.
00:51Officials expect water levels to recede below riverbanks in every affected area by Friday evening.
