00:00This is Lindsay. She says on a first date she usually asks too many questions.
00:08We showed her videotapes of these three single men and she picked one as her date.
00:12Which one did she choose? Which one will our audience choose?
00:15And this is Olga. She says on a first date she always explains the ground rules.
00:21Which one of these three men did she choose? Which one will our audience choose?
00:25Today on Love Connection, you'll find out who they pick, who the audience picks, and everything that happened on their dates.
00:32Now here to tell us more about Love Connection is our host, Chuck Woolery.
00:40Alright, good audience today.
00:43Welcome to Love Connection where we've got a new way for singles to meet and here's how it works.
00:48Now we've compiled a video library of more than a thousand attractive and available single people.
00:52We select some of those singles and show them three videotapes.
00:55They choose the one they're most attracted to and go out on a date.
00:58Then they come here and they tell us what happened on their date.
01:00Now to begin with, we're going to meet a woman who selected a date from our video library.
01:04She likes to sing and sail and cut men's hair.
01:07She says she used to make snap judgments about men, but not anymore.
01:10Please welcome Lindsay Shields.
01:13What changed your mind, Lindsay, about making snap judgments on people?
01:28Oh well, you know, you meet a lot of people and a lot of guys and there was one who I said,
01:32oh, and they said, oh, I really want you to, my friend said, I really want you to meet this guy.
01:36And I went, that guy, oh, no thanks.
01:39I ended up going with him for three years.
01:41He was a very interesting fellow, but you know, after we got his hair cut and bought him new clothes and everything, he was great.
01:46You fixed him up.
01:47Sure did.
01:48What's this about cutting men's hair? Do you, do you actually do that for a living or?
01:51Uh, no, no, not for a living.
01:53I've cut my dad's hair ever since I was young.
01:56And, uh, you can really tell a lot about a man if he'll let you cut his hair.
02:01Okie dokie, let's take a look at the men that Lindsay had to choose from now.
02:04Audience, watch very closely because we're going to ask you to pick the man that you think's best for her.
02:08Okay, first there was David.
02:09David says he's a joker, a dancer, a lover, and an athlete.
02:12We ask him where he meets all the women that he dates.
02:15It just happens.
02:16Uh, I go places, I go dancing, uh, friends, you know.
02:20You know, I'm, I sleep about three hours a night, rarely home, so, you know, I must be somewhere.
02:26Okay, next there was Warren.
02:28Warren likes to stay fit.
02:30Says he's a doer, not a watcher, and he enjoys cooking with his dates.
02:33I think that's a very creative way of two people getting to know each other.
02:37Uh, the cooking doesn't have to be complicated.
02:40It's rather an activity to share that's fun and a way of two people conversing over doing something together.
02:49That's fair enough.
02:50Finally, you watch William now.
02:52He likes to keep active.
02:53Says he's warm, independent, and strong-willed.
02:55He had a brief marriage, and he's a single parent now.
02:58I was married for all of about two and a half years.
03:01Uh, essentially I married when I was very young and dumb, and now that I'm older and dumber, I've hopefully learned something.
03:07But we had one boy, and it was agreed upon between us that since he was a boy, you know, I should do the raising.
03:14All right, now Lindsay selected one of those men as her date, and we're going to show you all three men again before you vote.
03:21First there was David.
03:22He's 39.
03:23He's in computer sales.
03:24Then Warren.
03:25He's a clothing buyer, and he's also 39.
03:27Finally, William.
03:28He's 41, and he's a parole agent.
03:30Okay, audience, it's time for your voting machines.
03:32Now, you've met Lindsay.
03:33You've seen her choices.
03:34Please make your choice now.
03:38All right, we're going to take a break.
03:39When we come back, we'll meet the man that Lindsay selected and hear everything that happened on their date.
03:43And we'll do that in just a minute.
03:44Stay with us.
03:48In a little while, we're going to find out who the audience picked.
03:50But right now, let's find out who Lindsay selected.
03:52Lindsay, who'd you pick?
03:53Who's the lucky guy?
03:54I picked William Fosnacht.
03:56William Fosnacht.
03:57Mm-hmm.
03:58All right.
03:59Good.
04:00I love connections.
04:01We always get both sides of the story.
04:03We ask our couples not to speak to each other after the date.
04:05William's backstage.
04:06Let's say hello to William Fosnacht.
04:09Hi.
04:10Hi, William.
04:11How you doing?
04:12How are you?
04:13Real good right now.
04:14Good.
04:15How did you feel when you first met Lindsay?
04:17Uh, somewhat in a state of shock.
04:19I never saw her before.
04:20She knew a lot about me.
04:21I didn't know anything about her.
04:23And when I opened up that door and those first two words came out, I knew I was in the wrong place.
04:27I was in the wrong place at the wrong time.
04:28Oh, no, no, no.
04:29What were the...
04:30What...
04:31What words?
04:32She said, ah...
04:33Oh, she...
04:34I had to ask, didn't I?
04:35Yes, of course.
04:36What happened?
04:37Tell me what your plan was for your day.
04:38We took off and we drove up to the Ventura County line on the coast.
04:40Wait a minute.
04:41Wait a minute.
04:42Why did you say that, uh, expletive?
04:43Because I was late.
04:44I've been working hard all day.
04:45And I rushed home and I didn't have the picnic baskets all ready.
04:46We had a four-course dinner and the picnic baskets to take it.
04:47Oh, okay, okay, okay.
04:48So you drove up the coast.
04:49Oh, I was really...
04:50I was really nervous.
04:51You were just late.
04:52Yeah.
04:53And, uh, he...
04:54He was a very good conversationalist.
04:55And I asked him a little bit about himself, trying to get him to talk.
04:57What did you talk about in the car on the road?
04:58Well, I think I...
04:59I don't think I should have.
05:00He told me that he'd been down here for about six months and he'd put his ad...
05:05an ad in the singles paper and got all these responses.
05:08I'm going to talk about it in the car on the road.
05:11Well, I think I don't think I should have.
05:13He told me that he'd been down here for about six months and he'd put his ad...
05:18an ad in the singles paper and got all these responses.
05:21I'm going, I'm driving up the coast by this guy.
05:24William, did you do that?
05:26Did you put an ad in the singles paper?
05:27I sure did.
05:28Did you get many responses?
05:30I was overwhelmed.
05:31I was overwhelmed by the responses but unimpressed by the people that responded.
05:35Oh, I see.
05:36You're driving up the coast going for where?
05:39Uh, right across Ventura County Line.
05:41I see.
05:42Where there's a huge big sand dune that goes halfway up the cliff.
05:46Oh, I know where that is, sure.
05:47Oh, I know where that is, sure.
05:48I didn't know where it was and she kept stopping every so often and said,
05:51is this the right spot?
05:52And I'm looking at her and saying, I don't know.
05:54I don't even know where we're going.
05:55That was the walk to the right, yeah.
05:57Yeah, so when we got there, he knew exactly where it was and he looked up and he said,
06:00I know.
06:01And then he took out the, had the picnic baskets inside these big cardboard cartons
06:06and we walked up the hill and he's in much better shape than I am.
06:11I had my hair up.
06:12It was very beautiful and I thought very elegant for this poor course and he said,
06:16take it down, take it down.
06:17So I took my hair down and poured the champagne and he kept spilling the champagne.
06:21He said, I didn't spill it.
06:22But every time he moved on the blanket, since we're on a slant, the champagne would spill.
06:27He spilled half the bottle.
06:28I think she drank the other half.
06:30That's fine.
06:31You get through the picnic and you load everything up and go to the car or what?
06:35No, we were going to, the reason we had these things at the picnic baskets and the big cardboard cartons,
06:39I mean, they were huge cardboard cartons, was that when I drive them down the coast going someplace,
06:43I see kids sliding down this huge sand dune.
06:46Oh yeah, I see.
06:47And it looked like a bunch of fun.
06:48On these cardboard things.
06:49Yeah.
06:50So the idea was to hold the empty picnic baskets and slide down the hill.
06:54Great idea to get back to the car.
06:56It didn't work.
06:57Why didn't it work?
06:58Good in theory, but not in practice.
07:00Why didn't it work?
07:01Well, I'm 5'10", he's 6'4", and we're a little over 100 pounds each.
07:05A little too much weight in the sand.
07:08We rolled half the way.
07:10I'm anxious to see what the audience voted for.
07:13Are you?
07:14Yeah.
07:15Oh, my goodness.
07:18Warren.
07:1963%.
07:20They picked Warren.
07:21What?
07:22They did it.
07:23I didn't do it.
07:24Whoa.
07:25Now, Lindsay, we picked up the tab for your first date, as you know,
07:28and we're happy to pick up the tab for your second date if you want to follow our audience's advice.
07:31That's how it works here.
07:32You want to do that?
07:33No way.
07:34No?
07:35No.
07:36Oh, no.
07:37What would you like to do?
07:38I want to go out with William again.
07:40You do?
07:41William, is that okay with you?
07:42I've been waiting a long time for this.
07:44Yes.
07:45Yes.
07:46Maybe you guys can get a great big cardboard box this time.
07:48Come on out and join us, William.
07:49Do you think you'd like to cut William's hair?
07:50Oh, sure.
07:51There's not much, but I'll do it.
07:52Sounds like you guys had a great day.
07:53We have a nice gift for you.
07:54Let us know how everything works out, okay?
07:55Okay.
07:57Stay right where you are.
07:58We're going to come right back with another couple in just a minute.
07:59Stay with us.
08:00Stay with us.
08:01Okay, let's meet another lady who chose a date.
08:05Okay, let's meet another lady who chose a date from our video library.
08:06Now, she likes sewing and baking.
08:07She says if she sees something she likes, she goes and gets it.
08:09Please welcome Olga Ferguson.
08:13Oh, sure.
08:14There's not much, but I'll do it.
08:15Sounds like you guys had a great day.
08:16We have a nice gift for you.
08:17Let us know how everything works out, okay?
08:18Okay.
08:20Stay right where you are.
08:21Okay.
08:22We're going to come right back with another couple in just a minute.
08:23Stay with us.
08:24Okay, let's meet another lady who chose a date from our video library.
08:31Now, she likes sewing and baking.
08:33She says if she sees something she likes, she goes and gets it.
08:36Please welcome Olga Ferguson.
08:42Hi, Olga.
08:43Hi.
08:46You're so pretty and you're red today.
08:48My goodness.
08:50Very, very nice.
08:51Earlier we heard that you have rules for a first date.
08:54What are your rules, Olga?
08:56Well, my rules are to let him know exactly where I am, where I stand in the date.
09:03I mean, there's no fooling around off the top and I want him directly to respect me in the beginning.
09:08So do you tell this to a guy when you say, okay, these are the rules?
09:11Sometimes.
09:12It depends on the guy and how we're getting along.
09:15What if you think this guy's really great looking and you just would do back flips to go out with him?
09:19Do you lay down the rules then?
09:20No.
09:21I just don't want to jeopardize your position.
09:26No way.
09:27Something good.
09:28No jeopardy.
09:29Now, you're a dental assistant, right?
09:30Yes.
09:31You always check out a guy's teeth?
09:32Definitely.
09:33Definitely.
09:34Because if he has a nice set of teeth, then that shows he takes care of everything else.
09:39Okay.
09:40We know a little about you.
09:41Let's take a look at the men that Olga had to choose from.
09:43Now, watch closely because you're going to vote again.
09:45And first there was Larry.
09:46Larry's from Georgia.
09:47He spent 11 years in the army.
09:49He says his personality is more important than his looks.
09:51That's what he said.
09:52I'm not that good looking, but I think most of the time women like me after they get to
09:58know me.
09:59You know, not so much as a first glance, you know, hey, this guy's really something, you
10:02know, I want him.
10:03But, like, after, you know, people I work with or people I meet through other people,
10:08then they find that they like me because I'm kind of easy to talk to, kind of honest,
10:14you know, upfront, sincere, that sort of thing, you know.
10:17Okay.
10:18Next there was John.
10:19John likes to travel and read.
10:20Says the first thing he notices about a woman is her face.
10:22But she doesn't have to be beautiful.
10:24Well, I mean, I'm not exactly always looking for a beauty king.
10:27I'm trying to say is that as appealing as possible.
10:32But as I said, if I had met a girl that she was really nice and she was on a scale from
10:36one to ten, for example, if she was a six and she was very nice, I mean, I wouldn't have
10:40any type of reservations about going out with her whatsoever.
10:43Okay.
10:44And finally, you watched Anthony.
10:45Now, Anthony says he can do anything and make it fun.
10:48And he's learned that it doesn't pay to be too aggressive.
10:51I can't sit here and tell you that I would want to, you know, just jump on every woman.
10:56Jump on every woman that I see.
10:58I've thought about that many times, but I just don't think that would be wise.
11:04Really?
11:05Now, before we find out who Olga chose as her date, let's take a look at all three of these
11:10gentlemen once again.
11:11Okay.
11:12First there was Larry.
11:13He's a 29-year-old salesman.
11:14Then John.
11:15He's an employment recruiter and he's 31.
11:17Finally, Anthony.
11:18He's a 28-year-old musician.
11:20Okay, audience, it's time to vote again.
11:22Who do you think's the best man for Olga?
11:24Please make your choice right now.
11:25We'll get the results of the audience vote a little later, but right now let's find
11:33out who Olga picked.
11:34Okay, Olga?
11:35Who's the lucky guy?
11:36The lucky guy was John.
11:38John.
11:39Okay.
11:40We always hear both sides of the story.
11:42And John's backstage.
11:43Let's say hello to John Edmondson.
11:45Hi, John.
11:46Hi, Chuck.
11:47How are you doing?
11:48I'm fine, thank you.
11:49John, what did you think of Olga when you first saw her?
11:52Well, I wasn't really sure because I really didn't see her.
11:56You know, she arrived all covered up.
11:58She had a hat on and then she had some large sunglasses obscuring her face.
12:02And, of course, she had a large long sleeve, some type of sweatshirt with gloves.
12:07And, of course, she had sweatpants and tennis shoes.
12:09So, all I really saw of her was a little bit of her face.
12:12That sounds interesting.
12:15Maybe you better tell us what happened on this date, Olga.
12:18Well, what happened was I decided to go deep sea fishing in the inside of Mexico.
12:23You decided this?
12:24Yes, I decided.
12:25Sometimes you have to take control.
12:26It was great.
12:27It was great.
12:28So, you went down.
12:29What time did all this start?
12:30Well, actually, when we first met, it was 2.50 a.m. in the morning.
12:33Oh, gee.
12:34Very, very early.
12:35So, we drove down to Mexico.
12:38How long is it?
12:39About four hours done?
12:40About four hours runaway, give or take traffic.
12:42So, you got on the boat now and you're getting ready to go deep sea fishing?
12:44Yes.
12:45Did you catch anything?
12:46About two.
12:47Fifteen pounds.
12:48Two and a half feet.
12:49Did you?
12:50Yellowtail.
12:51Oh, tuna.
12:52That's great.
12:53It was great.
12:54What did you catch, John?
12:55I didn't really catch anything.
12:56I don't think so.
12:57No, no.
12:58He didn't catch anything.
12:59You didn't catch anything at all?
13:00No, not at all.
13:01Well, did you fish?
13:02Right.
13:03Just for a strip while.
13:04What were you doing?
13:05What was he doing when he wasn't fishing?
13:07He was trying to get his line untangled.
13:09Oh.
13:10Well, hey, listen.
13:11That happens.
13:12I've had that happen.
13:13The other thing is, I believe he got a little ill, a little seasick on the boat.
13:18No, I didn't really get sick.
13:19No, just at one time when I was standing in front of her, I felt a little bit nauseated,
13:22but it wasn't from seasickness.
13:24She told me, she called my attention to a guy on the right side of the boat and I looked
13:28and I saw him bending over very, very sick and that made me a little sick seeing that
13:31guy.
13:32Bending over?
13:33And what was he doing, John?
13:34Well, you could imagine what he was doing.
13:35Right.
13:36So seeing him made me a little sick for about a second.
13:37Hey, listen.
13:38John, I'll tell you.
13:39You didn't get seasick, John.
13:40Remember?
13:41Did it bother you at all that Olga caught some fish and you didn't?
13:43Not at all.
13:44Mainly because I'm vegetarian, so.
13:45Did you what?
13:46I'm vegetarian.
13:47Oh, you're a vegetarian.
13:49Did you catch him two fish?
13:51Okay.
13:52So what else happened?
13:53Well, we finally got done fishing.
13:55We went into port.
13:56We got to the car.
13:58We drove back.
14:00And on the way, he did get sunburned.
14:02We both got sunburned.
14:03Yeah.
14:04And I believe he was a little bit tired, so he proceeded to, with his bag on his lap,
14:09put his arm in the bag and his chin in his arm and shielded me.
14:14And I believe he went to sleep.
14:16Now, he says he didn't go to sleep.
14:18But I know he went to sleep.
14:19I couldn't have gone to sleep with the way she was driving anyway.
14:21So, for the four hours back, did you go to sleep, John?
14:26I don't sleep sitting up.
14:27Ah!
14:28You're kind of curious to see who the audience selected for you.
14:31Yes.
14:32Let's take a look and see, okay?
14:33Okay.
14:34Oh, they picked Larry.
14:36Forty-five percent, they picked Larry.
14:37What do you think, Olga?
14:38We picked up the tab for your first date.
14:40Would you like to go out with Larry and we'll pick up the tab for that one?
14:43No, I think I'm going to hit John again.
14:47You're what?
14:48I'm going to show him another side of Olga.
14:50John, you ready to see another side of Olga?
15:04Well, I guess I really didn't see the first side, so I might as well see the other side.
15:09Well, come on out and join us, John.
15:11You guys are still shaking hands.
15:12Sounds like a handshake instead of a kiss, right?
15:13I've got to tell you.
15:14You know, I must tell you something.
15:16I've been doing this show for some time now.
15:17It did not sound like a terrific date, you guys.
15:18How come you're going to go at this one more time?
15:19Well, maybe it wasn't terrific, but it really wasn't derogatory.
15:20It wasn't that bad, let's put it that way.
15:21It was sort of a business trip, let's put it that way.
15:22How do you...
15:23What do you think?
15:24It wasn't a business trip, John.
15:25It was...
15:26It wasn't a business trip, John.
15:27It was,
15:28It was a semi-exciting
15:45It was a semi-exciting,
15:55exciting activity well we have a nice gift for both of you thank you very much for being on the
15:59show and we'll be right back with another couple in just a minute stay tuned for more of love

18:34i like to classify myself as someone who gets along with females well at least i try to um and i guess a

18:58he says i prefer to be uh with one girl and get to know her and and uh experience her life on what
19:07she does and what she enjoys and there's vice versa uh you can't do that if you meet one girl and you
