00:00New South Wales has confirmed plans to introduce digital birth certificates from March 2026,
00:06giving people of a certain age group the option to carry the identity document on their mobile phone.
00:12The certificate will initially be available only to residents born in New South Wales
00:17who hold a valid photo card or New South Wales driver licence and are aged 16 to 21.
00:23The digital rollout forms the first stage of a wider transition to digital identity services
00:30aimed at improving security, privacy and ease of access.
00:35It would first be accepted at service New South Wales centres for selected transactions,
00:40including RSA and RCG competency cards, before being expanded to more government and industry uses.
