00:00Oftentimes I'll just, we'll do one long take and we'll do, you know, three runs of the scene and
00:05then I'll just give him something a little different every time and, you know, sometimes
00:08I'll do levels where it's nothing to something big or maybe it's three completely different
00:13reactions and then, you know, I trust him in the edit. The Netflix series Wednesday is back for an
00:19even spookier second season. The stars and creators spoke to The Hollywood Reporter all about the new
00:25installment. Season two spends more time with the whole Adams family unit, including Morticia,
00:30Gomez and Pugsley. Jenna Ortega, who stars as Wednesday Adams, opened up about what it was
00:35like doing more scenes with Catherine Zeta-Jones, who plays Wednesday's mother Morticia, including
00:40one involving an intense sword fight. I mean, that sword fight scene is one of my favorite things to
00:44come out of the show in its entirety. Obviously, Catherine is incredibly gifted and skilled and
00:50has such a rich history in film and television and, you know, I'm so grateful for my time with
00:56her on season one. So to be able to elaborate that on a second season and to add complexity to both of our
01:01characters and to bring some sort of tether into this, you know, quite ethereal, magical show, it's so great to be
01:09able to also represent what feels, you know, like the very accurate day-to-day life, both modern and, you know, over
01:18decades and centuries, you know, just the relationship between mothers and daughters and that fight for
01:22independence. And I don't know, I just, I relate to the storyline a lot. Um, and I have definitely felt like
01:28Wednesday, uh, you know, as she does in this season. So it was great to be able to put that on screen.
01:33Zeta-Jones also shared what it was like getting to bring more of Morticia to the screen.
01:38It was a dream. You have no, I was chomping at the bit on season one. I wanted, I would do anything.
01:44I pleaded with them, please put something in, but it was, it was a wonderful kind of tease for us to
01:50come back on season two. And they gave me this wonderful character arc when, where I can, you see
01:57the strange relationship with Wednesday and then an even more strained emotional twist with, you know,
02:04the great, great Joanna Lumley's interpretation of Hester Frump. So there's this fantastic triangle
02:11of these very strong willed women and how they, they, they work about maybe grandma Mars pitting
02:18with Wednesday against me. You know, it's, it's a very interesting dynamic. Morticia always has that
02:24deep love for her daughter. Um, even though it's a little, it's, it's contested during this season a lot.
02:31Speaking of members of the Addams family, Fred Armisen also returns his uncle Fester.
02:36He opened up about working with Ortega on the show. It's so much fun working with her,
02:41but I, I, it was evident even in season one, before the show was big, she was really into it
02:48and really in control of like how the lines were said and written. It was really, she was like
02:55already producing it and she cares about each scene. She cares about each moment
03:01and it actually snaps everyone else into place of wanting to do a great job. So no part of it seems
03:07like she's just doing a job. It's, she's, uh, emotionally involved with making this show.
03:14Yeah. Fully invested.
03:16Steve Buscemi joins the cast this season as Barry Dort, the new head of Nevermore Academy.
03:21He shared how his involvement in the series came about. It was offered to me and, uh,
03:26I read the script, but even before I read the script, I knew that I wanted to do it because it's
03:31Tim Burton. It's the Addams family, the first season, which I loved. And I, and, and this ensemble
03:39cast, um, it was just a no brainer to, to, to want to be a part of it. Other names joining the cast
03:45this season include Christopher Lloyd and Lady Gaga series creators and show runners,
03:50Alfred Goff and Miles Miller opened up about how they went about casting the actor who played
03:54Uncle Fester in the 1990s Addams Family films and the iconic pop star is basically sort of,
04:00you know, grew out of the, the dance, you know, the viral dance where they put bloody Mary on it.
04:06And then she did the dance and then, you know, she was interested. We were interested and,
04:12but you know, she's Lady Gaga. She's very busy. So, you know, we were able to, to work out
04:17a character for her to play and time for her to come and do it. And she was, you know, we all know
04:22she's an amazing actress. So we, we were just, you know, thrilled that she could, uh, that she could
04:27come and come and play in the sandbox. Well, the best one actually was Christopher Lloyd. He DMed me
04:32on my Instagram and said, he, he loves season. He literally loves season, uh, one and wanted to be
04:38in season two. So it was a pretty easy call to say, Hey, we'd love to have you. And obviously everyone
04:44loves the idea of working with Tim. So I think that's, that's the color we have to play as well.
04:48So, you know, it's a show where we get all our first choices. Yeah. Everyone, everyone we asked to
04:53play a role said, yes. Part one of Wednesday season two hits streaming on Wednesday, August 6th
04:58for the Hollywood reporter news. I'm Tiffany Taylor.
