00:00The first chapter of Kevin Costner's Horizon Saga is headed to streaming sooner than you might think.
00:05Horizon, an American Saga Chapter 1 will hit the streaming service Max on August 23rd.
00:10The film was released in theaters back in June, but disappointed at the box office,
00:14opening to just $11 million. The release of Horizon Chapter 2 was then put on hold in order
00:20to give audiences the opportunity to discover the first installment on Premium VOD and Max.
00:25Chapter 2 was previously supposed to hit theaters on August 16th before being pulled
00:29from the calendar. Chapter 1 debuted on Premium VOD July 16th while it remained in theaters,
00:44but at that time, a Max date had not been announced. The first film cost $100 million to make,
00:49with director, co-writer, producer, and star Costner investing at least $38 million of his
00:54own money into the movie. Ahead of the release of Chapter 1, Costner told The Hollywood Reporter
00:59why he's so passionate about this project.
01:01I don't know why, it just speaks to me out loud, and that's been my kind of guide,
01:06my North Star of anything I've done. I thought Field of Dreams was good, you know, and I thought
01:11Tin Cup was good. I thought Bull Durham was a really nice movie, and Bodyguard was a movie
01:15that wasn't going to be made. It was written 17 years earlier. No Way Out was a movie called
01:24Finished With Engines. It had been written long. No one was going to make it. So when I feel like
01:30I like a movie, I feel like audiences will like it. And when I saw Horizon, I just felt strongly
01:37that the world, and America in particular, could go west with me and feel like they saw things in a
01:46way they'd never seen it before.
