00:00Dune Part 2 is set to rescue the sandstorm-ridden box office with its global opening.
00:13The tentpole from filmmaker Denis Villeneuve is expected to bring in big numbers to the box office,
00:17which is currently running 18% behind last year and more than 38% behind 2019.
00:23Warner Bros. and Legendary are being conservative in estimating a $65 million-plus domestic opening,
00:29but tracking and some box office observers believe it could cross up to $80 million
00:33based on advanced ticket sales and stellar reviews.
00:37Overseas, it should open to at least $85 million for a global opening in the $150-$175 million range.
00:45Meanwhile, Dune Part 1 grossed more than $402 million at the worldwide box office.
00:50The sequel arrives after being pushed from November during the actor's strike,
00:54which prohibited the film's A-list cast from promoting the movie.
00:57Dune Part 2 currently holds a 97% on Rotten Tomatoes.
01:01The film reunites Timothee Chalamet and Zendaya and follows Paul Atreides,
01:05who joins forces with the Fremen and seeks revenge against the enemies who murdered his family.
01:10During the film's U.S. premiere, Villeneuve spoke to The Hollywood Reporter about upping the ante for Part 2.
01:16I heard that the reviews are positive. I'm very pleased with that.
01:20I can't wait to share the movie with the world. I can't wait for the audience to watch.
01:24That's going to be the true test for me.
01:25Austin Butler joins the sequel cast and spoke to THR about playing the film's main villain.
01:31I mean, it's fun doing any role, but this one was particularly joyful in a weird way.
01:38Warners has a spin-off series, Dune Prophecy, due out on Max later this year,
01:42while Villeneuve would like to make one more film, Dune Messiah.
01:45I just want to come back with a strong screenplay. It's almost done, but it needs work a bit now.
