00:00 Juliana Margulies is facing backlash after calling out the Black and LGBTQ communities'
00:05 lack of support for Israel in its fight against Hamas and suggested that some were "brainwashed."
00:12 Margulies was on the Nov. 21 episode of The Backroom with Andy Ostroi podcast to speak
00:17 about her role on The Morning Show, before the conversation shifted to antisemitism and
00:22 the Israel-Hamas conflict.
00:24 Margulies expressed her sadness that Black and LGBTQ+ people were supportive of Palestine
00:30 and in her eyes were not supporting Israel in their fight against Hamas, especially as
00:34 she believed Jews have supported the Black community.
00:36 "I'm the first person to march for Black Lives Matter.
00:40 When that happened to George Floyd, I put a black screen on my Instagram, like I ran
00:44 to support my Black brothers and sisters," she added.
00:47 "When LGBTQ people are being attacked, I run.
00:50 I made a commercial for same-sex marriages with my husband in 2012.
00:54 Like I am the first person to jump up when something is wrong, as I think most Jews are,
00:59 because we have been persecuted from the beginning of time."
01:01 The actress then had a warning for "progressive young people."
01:05 "It's those kids who use pronouns who are spewing this antisemitic hate that have no
01:09 idea if they stepped foot in an Islamic country.
01:12 These people who want us to call them 'they/them' or whatever they want us to call them, which
01:16 I have respectfully really made a point of doing, like be whoever you want to be."
01:20 "It's those people that will be the first people beheaded and their heads played with
01:26 a soccer ball, like a soccer ball on the field."
01:29 Margulies then brought up a Black lesbian organization at Columbia University who was
01:34 reported to be disinviting Zionists from a film night.
01:37 "I want to say to them, 'You fucking idiots.
01:42 You don't exist.
01:44 That you're even lower than the Jews.
01:46 A, you're Black, and B, you're gay.'"
01:49 Margulies pivoted to the civil rights movement and said that "the Jews were the ones that
01:53 walked side by side with the Blacks to fight for their rights.
01:56 And now the Black community isn't embracing us and saying, 'We stand with you the way
02:00 you stood with us.'"
02:01 Margulies' comments drew a swift and furious reaction on social media.
02:06 Writing on X, Washington Post columnist Karen Attea wrote, "Wish I could say that Julianna
02:10 Margulies' racist rant against Black people is an outlier, but as I've said before, I've
02:15 heard this same sentiment from supposedly liberal circles.
02:18 Solidarity with Black people is transactional.
02:21 We are supposed to be grateful charity recipients."
02:23 Joel Kim Booster tweeted, "I've never heard someone want to say a slur more than Julianna
02:28 Margulies does in that little podcast she did."
