00:00Zach Posen mixed fashion with technology at the 2019 Met Gala on Monday night.
00:05The designer was an innovator on the pink carpet when he incorporated 3D printing into
00:09his one-of-a-kind custom creations for five of his nine guests, Katie Holmes, Nina
00:14Dobrev, Julia Garner, Deepika Padukone and Jordan Dunn.
00:19According to Posen, each design explores the 3D technique in a unique way while also
00:23resulting in a gown or dress that suits the women's style and personality.
00:27But the creations didn't happen overnight. It was actually about one year in the making.
00:32The designer met with the masterminds behind the 3D printing technology exactly a day after
00:36last year's Met Gala extravaganza to start prepping for this year.
00:40And finally on Monday night's pink carpet, Posen unveiled how he meshed the transformative
00:45technology of 3D printing with his popular romantic aesthetic.
00:49For Katie Holmes, Posen created what he calls a real glamour piece in a Prince purple metallic.
00:54He says,
00:59Nina Dobrev, meanwhile, wore one of Posen's 3D printed bustiers, which was actually created at a lab
01:17facility in Germany and took about 200 hours to print. Posen called it an homage to
01:22sculptures in a museum and the bustier's shimmering plastic is meant to evoke an effect of
01:26transparent crystals.
01:28Bollywood superstar Deepika Padukone was another star gracing the red carpet in one of Posen's
01:33custom creations. The actress wore a custom gown of pink L'Orex Jacquard embellished with 3D printed
01:38pieces meant to resemble embroidery. As for the inspiration behind it, he says,
01:43I went underwater for that one and started looking at deep sea creatures and the effect of
01:47light and scale.
01:48Other guests at Posen's table included Gia Coppola, Andrew Garfield and Vito Schnabel.
