Transcript
00:00Welcome to season three of Spoiler Alert, where we talk about and spoil the shows you're
00:05obsessed with.
00:06This week we weigh in on Breaking Bad's latest masterpiece and offer our predictions for
00:11the finale.
00:12You sh**ing me, right?
00:14We also share our picks for the returning shows we're most looking forward to, as well
00:17as the best and worst new shows.
00:23And lastly, we have a little Emmy preview for you.
00:26I am not deliberately losing, I'm having a very off night.
00:28Welcome.
00:29Kim, Matt.
00:30How are you?
00:31Season three, look at us.
00:32Breaking Bad.
00:33Insane.
00:34Totally insane.
00:35I almost feel like that is where the final season will peak and then it'll sort of come
00:39down from that.
00:40Because you kind of can't top that.
00:41It was kind of a different insane from the week prior.
00:43Like the episode with the shootout in the desert, that was just like so intense.
00:46Like nobody was breathing while they were watching that.
00:48This week I almost felt sick watching it.
00:50Yeah.
00:51Hank basically getting put down like a dog.
00:53Do what you're gonna do.
00:54Get on with it, motherfucker.
00:57Every beat of that was just so almost nauseating.
00:59When Jesse got sort of chained like a dog in the lab, I almost felt ill.
01:05It was almost too dark.
01:06I mean, I remember thinking ten minutes had passed and it was about forty.
01:09Like it just, oh.
01:10Well, and also the opening credits didn't start until like thirty minutes in.
01:14Right.
01:15If that has ever happened.
01:16Yeah.
01:17I know we've agreed that Walt was basically pulling a scheme there when he was talking
01:20to Skylar and yelling at her at the end.
01:22He was basically, you know, exonerating her.
01:24Do you feel like he was doing any of that when he ratted out Jesse out there in the desert?
01:27Found him.
01:28Or was he just looking to get Jesse killed?
01:30I interpreted that as he was just looking to get Jesse killed.
01:32Yeah.
01:33Because if Todd doesn't speak up and say, well, golly gee willikers, we could use him
01:37to get some information.
01:38Jesse gets killed there.
01:39Yeah.
01:40I think it's also a good point to raise is that even though I, Walt was definitely doing
01:44that to exonerate Skylar, he meant every word he said too.
01:48You never believed in me.
01:50You were never grateful for anything I did for this family.
01:53I think that's why it worked so well.
01:54He's crying because he's upset, but he's also crying because he's really mad.
01:57He believed everything he said.
01:58Right.
01:59Oh, and then when he was collapsed in the desert after Hank got, you know, shot, he had, like,
02:03lost everything.
02:04He basically ceded his 80 million dollars.
02:06Yeah.
02:07He lost Hank.
02:08He was losing, you know, everything in his life.
02:09I felt so badly for Walt in that moment because he had lost everything despite trying
02:13to have something to show for his efforts over these years.
02:17And the way the episode was going, it, it, Jesse could have easily died and it wouldn't
02:22have been like, oh my God, I can't believe they're doing this.
02:24I also thought Skylar in that tussle on the floor was going to get knifed and die too.
02:28Yeah, me too.
02:29That might have been too much though.
02:30Yeah.
02:31But I, I was, I was totally ready for that too.
02:32So predictions for the finale, who do you think will live and who do you think will
02:35die?
02:36I think Walt's going to live, but I think he's going to have lost everything.
02:38I mean, the whole show has been about him getting back his life and if not getting back
02:41his life, providing for his family.
02:42I think he's going to have his life, but it's not going to be worth anything because the
02:45family and the money will be gone.
02:46Yeah.
02:47Well in the flash forwards, we've seen Walt getting a big gun and retrieving the ricin
02:52capsule.
02:53I think the gun, I think he's going to go to rescue Jesse using the gun and I think the
02:57ricin's for himself.
02:58I think Walt's going to be dead at the end.
02:59So they burned through so much story in this episode that I have to imagine one of the
03:03final two episodes is just going to be set around the flash forward.
03:06Cause I don't know that there's enough material for two full episodes of just where we are
03:11now.
03:12Right.
03:13Especially now that Walt has disappeared himself.
03:14Do we flash forward now for the remainder of the show?
03:16I don't think for the remainder.
03:17I think we've got one more episode in present time and then it will jump ahead, I think,
03:21for the finale.
03:22Are you me right?
03:23I don't know.
03:24You think it's going to jump ahead next week?
03:25I could see it jumping ahead this week.
03:27Really?
03:28Yeah.
03:29Well I've already seen this week's episode and you're wrong.
03:30He's lying.
03:31I am lying.
03:32I haven't seen it.
03:33No one has seen it.
03:34I know.
03:35Returning favorites.
03:36Fall season is officially underway.
03:37It really gets underway next week when there's like a hundred premieres.
03:40The returning show you're most looking forward to, Matt, let's start with you.
03:43I was really torn on this because I've been hearing really good things about Once Upon
03:46a Time season three being much stronger than season two.
03:49Who are we up against?
03:50Someone we all should fear.
03:52I'm really curious about Arrow because they've added so much for season two.
03:55I think it could either be a much richer, better show than season one or it could just
04:00get weighed down by all of that.
04:02But I'm going to go with How I Met Your Mother.
04:06One ticket to Far Hampton, please.
04:07Interesting.
04:08Which surprises me because I haven't watched the show in like two years.
04:10Wow.
04:11But I'm really curious to see if they stick the landing and somehow this weekend long,
04:15season long wedding weekend destination thing pans out.
04:19Kim?
04:20American Horror Story, Kevin.
04:21Oh, nice call.
04:22Yeah.
04:23I just, every year that show would, I just think Ryan Murphy's genius in the way that
04:26he's made it.
04:27But every season I'm going to tune in, even if it's the same people I've seen the season
04:30before, there's always new faces.
04:32Old people are playing new roles and I find it not scary but disturbing in a way that sticks
04:37with me week to week.
04:38So I cannot wait.
04:39I'm going to go with The Good Wife.
04:40I feel like this could be the biggest shakeup the show has ever had in terms of Alicia and Carrie
04:46going off and starting their own firm.
04:48I think this show is going to handle that really well and it's going to disrupt sort
04:53of the premise in a really exciting way.
04:56I'm in.
04:57One returning favorite show we've already seen the premiere of.
04:59I think, Matt, you have seen it too?
05:00Yes.
05:01Revenge.
05:02And a lot of speculation about Revenge now that there's a new showrunner.
05:06Kim, let me start with you.
05:07What was your sort of snappy judgment?
05:09Well, I was not a fan of last season, so basically anything that was not last season
05:12would have been good with me.
05:13But I'm going to give it an episode to get itself back together.
05:17I'm sorry.
05:19In the premiere, there's a lot of exposition.
05:21There's a lot of doing away with last season's The Initiative and, you know, all that kind
05:25of stuff.
05:26There's a lot of clunky explanation that I think I hope is not a trend.
05:31I hope it's just there.
05:32That's what's happening in this episode.
05:33So.
05:34And there's like lines of dialogue which basically say this is a reset.
05:37I mean, no one's got a line which says, you know, all I care about is helping you get
05:41revenge on all those people who wronged your father.
05:43Right.
05:44Right.
05:45And it's just like, you know, it's basically like the billboard for the show.
05:47It felt like they did away with almost everything.
05:49Even some things I don't feel like they necessarily even had to do away with.
05:52Right.
05:53And we don't want to get too spoilery here.
05:54I also felt like even though last season when I didn't understand what was happening
05:58and it didn't make any sense, there still felt like there was an urgency to the show.
06:02It felt like everything was really important and do or die.
06:07This first episode felt a little too casual.
06:10You know, the thing I loved about Revenge, especially in the first season, is that there would
06:13always be that layer that would peel back at the end and you'd be like, oh, I didn't
06:16even realize I didn't notice that.
06:18But now it's like, you know, and it felt a little inartful the way that this episode
06:23was played out.
06:24There wasn't that layer.
06:25There was just like, this is what happened.
06:26Even the, not to give anything away, but the kind of takedown is a retread of a takedown
06:31from the first season.
06:32Yeah.
06:33And I don't, I think it was meant as a nod, but it just comes off kind of flat.
06:36It came off almost lazy.
06:37Right.
06:38A big part of this episode is they bring in Victoria's long lost son, Patrick.
06:41They're sexy together, the two of them.
06:43They're very sexy together in a way that's just not right.
06:46But I just felt like the way that storyline played out in the episode was so stilted.
06:50It's like they wanted to introduce him, but they didn't really have the time to.
06:53And he just kind of like came here and there and a little bit and here he's bare chested,
06:57here he's not, here he meets.
06:58I was going to say, he was wearing a towel.
06:59There was nothing wrong with that.
07:00Well, and they did say that there's going to be a lot more, you know, sort of salaciousness
07:04this season, which kind of makes sense.
07:06If you're going to hire all these beautiful people, strip their clothes off.
07:09They do seem, they do seem determined to make Charlotte happen this season.
07:12Well, they seem determined to make Charlotte's bangs happen.
07:15Well, that's definitely happened.
07:16Whether Charlotte herself happens remains to be seen, but they seem determined.
07:19New shows, let's call it must see and must flee.
07:22For me, must see, Masters of Sex.
07:25Lean in close.
07:26But not too close or you'll get poked in the eye.
07:29You're saying watch out for the dildo.
07:31One of the best pilots I have seen perhaps since Mad Men.
07:34That's on Showtime.
07:35Must flee for me is Super Fun Night, which was nails on a chalkboard for me.
07:40Would you mind passing me that stapler?
07:43I love Rebel Wilson, but not funny in this at all.
07:48Must see for me is Sleepy Hollow.
07:49I did not expect to like that pilot as much as I did.
07:52I think the leads are really good together.
07:54That building is also a Starbucks.
07:56Yep.
07:58How many are there?
07:59The show is kind of not taking itself too seriously, just the right amount of serious.
08:03So, must flee for me is also Super Fun Night.
08:05Oh.
08:06I was, it made me sad.
08:08The whole, it's not a, it's a comedy and it made me sad.
08:10Super Dumb Night?
08:11Super Sad Night.
08:12I'm gonna coin that right now.
08:13Okay, good.
08:14I don't think anyone's dumb.
08:15Super Unlikable Three Friends Night?
08:16Yeah.
08:17That's too long of a title.
08:18Must see.
08:19I'm going to go with Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
08:22Nothing can stop us in the...
08:27Hey.
08:28What up?
08:29Just because I think that's the show that people are gonna be talking about the next morning
08:32and throughout, you know, the first couple weeks of its run.
08:35As far as Must Flee, I'm gonna give that, you know, assuming that Dads isn't even in the equation.
08:39Let's just assume, let's just assume everyone's already fled Dads before it even came on the air.
08:45You me, right?
08:46I'm going to go with ABC's Betrayal, which has no redeeming value, is not entertaining,
08:51and it's just a romanticized depiction of adultery in a way that, you know,
08:56they think they're picking up the ball where a scandal left off.
08:59They're not.
09:00It's just blah.
09:01Also, in our prediction gallery that we just posted, we predicted it would be the first cancellation.
09:05Quite possibly.
09:06And I stand by that.
09:07Speaking of predictions, Emmy's coming up this weekend.
09:11Let's talk the one nominee you're most rooting for.
09:15For me, Vera Farmiga, Bates Motel.
09:18And I actually think she's going to win.
09:20So what, I'm just supposed to accept that you will take care of it, whatever that means?
09:24I'm cheating a little bit, because I want Elizabeth Moss, and I'll take her in either lead actress or miniseries lead.
09:29But do you feel like she really had the material for Med Men this season to warrant it, especially up against the competition she has?
09:34I feel like she's an amazing actress.
09:37I feel like we got to see a side of Peggy this season that we haven't seen before.
09:40And I have to say, of the two, I think Top of the Lake is a much stronger bid.
09:45I think she was amazing in that.
09:47And I think she has a good chance of winning that one.
09:49I don't know how to keep living.
09:51I'm going to go with Amy Poehler on Parks and Recreation.
09:53It's totally her time.
09:54I'm more competitive than you.
09:55I don't think so.
09:56I think so.
09:57Settle down.
09:58No, settle up, because the bill's been paid, and I've paid it, and I've won.
10:00If I had any doubt, watching the season premiere for the season coming up just sealed it.
10:04I mean, the first five minutes of that episode are just a riot, and it's all because of Amy Poehler's performance during it.
10:10Not that that's in consideration for the semis, but it just reminds you that, you know, Amy Poehler just makes that show so charming and so fun to watch.
10:17She doesn't stand a chance against Julia Louis-Dreyfus, though.
10:22Luck. Sorry.
10:23Buzzkill.
10:24What?
10:25You're a buzzkill.
10:26I am.
10:27Ultimately, we learn the most about ourselves through the losses.
10:29Thanks, guys.
10:30Season three.
10:31We're underway.
10:32What are we going to do while the credits fall?
10:33Twerk?
10:34Are we going to twerk?
10:35No, we are not twerking.
10:36We're not going to twerk, but here is what we are going to do.
10:39We're going to twerk.
10:41We're twerking.
10:43We're twerking right now.
10:44Have you quite finished?
10:46Because most of what you say is intelligible gibberish to me.
