00:00I stuck with it for as long as I could and at some point I realized I've reached a point of
00:06diminishing returns and I left. Shepard Smith is opening up about why he decided to leave Fox News
00:11after 23 years at the network. The current CNBC host got candid about his tenure at Fox in an
00:17interview with journalist Christiane Amanpour that aired Tuesday night on PBS. If you feel like
00:23the Fox viewers were getting mis- or disinformation, I was there to make sure that they got it straight.
00:28There were a lot of others in there who were trying to do the same thing.
00:32When Amanpour press Smith as to whether he accepts that Fox News, quote,
00:35perpetuated so many of the divisions, the lies, the conspiracies of the Trump presidency,
00:40Smith said this. I feel the same way about that now that I did then and my goal was to just keep
00:47the blinders on and do my job to the best of my ability. He went on to say. And I believe that
00:53when people begin with a false premise and lead people astray, that's injurious to society.
00:58And it's the antithesis of what we should be doing.
01:01Smith left his position as chief news anchor and managing editor of breaking news at Fox in 2019
01:06in a personal decision that surprised many in the media world and even Fox colleagues.
01:12I slept very well. I don't know how some people sleep at night because I know that there are a lot
01:17of people who have propagated the lies and have pushed them forward over and over again,
01:22who are smart enough and educated enough to know better.
01:25Smith continued,
01:26And I hope that at some point those who have done us harm as a nation and I might add as a world
01:31will look around and realize what they've done. But I'm not holding my breath.
