At the Elton John AIDS Foundation Oscar Party red carpet, Tonatiuh condemns the Trump administration's LGBTQ+ policies, calling for solidarity and action. Plus, he celebrates the success of his films 'Kiss of the Spider Woman' and 'Carry-On.'
00:39I don't know. I feel like when times get in trouble, whenever we lean back on each other, I think it creates safety for everybody.
00:47What's your take on the way the Trump administration is attacking LGBTQ plus rights right now?
00:51It's disgusting. It's absolutely disgusting.
00:55And I'm an aggressive progressive. And so I'm more like, hey, grab the brick.
00:58Like, that's a symbol of our, like, that was one of the big stonewall getting the T and the Q taken away at the monument as an executive order by the Trump administration is such an insult to the very bedrock of who we are.
01:17So if everything started with a brick, grab a brick again.
01:22It's an important moment right now, like you said. But I also want to do talk about how we're celebrating the Oscars tonight.
01:27We are celebrating. It is such an exciting weekend.
01:28Who are you rooting for tonight?
01:30Laura. I love their team. They're the nicest people I've met. Yeah.
01:35And for you, you have so much coming up. Talk to me about The Kiss of the Spider Woman.
01:38Yeah. Well, The Kiss of the Spider Woman, we premiered at Sundance and we are all, we probably will be distributing it later this year.
01:47But it was just, it was so well received and everybody was so kind and we poured our hearts into it.
01:53And I feel like it's such a timely film considering that everything that we have, all the themes that our film has and with everything that the is currently happening in the world.
02:03What else do you have coming up that you're excited for people to see?
02:06Well, Carry On has been doing super, super well. We're now number three most watched film on Netflix ever, if you can believe it.
02:15Yeah. So I think we're having a nice little moment. So if anyone hasn't seen it, come check it out.
02:19I saw a billboard for it at the airport at LAX. I'm like, wow, what a place to advertise.
02:24Oh my God. I went, when I was, as I was going to Sundance to premiere Kiss of the Spider Woman, I accidentally made the mistake of wearing a hat and people were looking at me so strange.
02:35That's amazing.
02:36Yeah.
02:36And tonight, Chapel Rhone is performing.
02:39I know.
02:39If you had to sing a duet with Chapel for one song of hers, what song would you pick?
02:43I mean, because she said that the Abbey inspired her to write Pink Pony Club and we're right behind the Abbey, I think we have to belt Pink Pony Club at the top of our lungs.
02:53I know. I feel like the after-after party has to be at the Pink Pony Club.
02:57If it isn't, then what are we doing?
02:59Exactly.
02:59This is actually, are we at the Pink Pony Club right now?
03:02I think this is it. She's turning it into the Pink Pony Club.
03:04Oh my gosh. If only I wore pink. But pink goes green. Green goes well with pink, so.
