Christopher Nolan is moving to Universal for his next movie, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.

00:00Christopher Nolan is moving to Universal.
00:03After shopping around his next feature project,
00:06The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that Nolan's upcoming World War II film
00:10about scientist J. Robert Oppenheimer,
00:12who is considered one of the fathers of the atom bomb,
00:15has landed at Universal.
00:17The filmmaker's longtime home, Warner Brothers,
00:19was set to be in talks for the project, as well as Sony and Paramount.
00:23Nearly all of Nolan's films since 2002's Insomnia
00:26have been released by Warner Brothers,
00:27save for The Prestige, which was distributed by Disney,
00:31and Interstellar, which saw Warner's and Paramount
00:33splitting up international and domestic rights, respectively.
00:36The move comes after Nolan, a strong proponent of the theatrical experience,
00:40spoke out last year against Warner Brothers' decision
00:42to send its 2021 slate day and date to HBO Max,
00:46saying,
00:46Some of our industry's biggest filmmakers and most important movie stars
00:50went to bed the night before,
00:52thinking they were working for the greatest movie studio,
00:54and woke up to find out they were working for the worst streaming service.
00:58Nolan generated box office billions with the Dark Knight trilogy
01:01and earned his first Best Director Oscar nomination
01:04for his previous World War II film, Dunkirk.
01:07He was last seen in theaters with Tenet,
01:09which Warner Brothers released exclusively in theaters a year ago
01:13amid the coronavirus pandemic,
01:14where it grossed just $58.4 million domestically
01:18amid a theatrical landscape diminished by the pandemic.
