00:00Exclusive, Eddie Murphy's Germophobia, Omitted from New Documentary
00:04Eddie Murphy is facing fresh scrutiny over his long-rumored Howard Hughes-style germophobia,
00:11with sources telling RadarOnline.com his most severe obsessions were left out of the new
00:16Netflix documentary, Being Eddie. Insiders claim the omissions hide the reality of a star living
00:22in a fortress he's too afraid to leave. The documentary highlights Murphy's career successes,
00:27but downplays his long-standing OCD and severe germophobia, which resurfaced in public memory
00:34after a 1997 police incident, where he admitted being obsessive about cleanliness. He later
00:40admitted, I'm obsessive-compulsive with cleanliness. After I got home, I wiped off the door handle and
00:46the stuff that person had touched. A source claims the documentary overlooks Murphy's extreme routines
00:51and reclusiveness, portraying him as relaxed while he largely confines himself to his massive,
00:56controlled mansion. An insider says the documentary only shows the parts of Murphy's
01:01life he allows, keeping much of his world private. A longtime associate said the anxieties have
01:06intensified since then. He's even more locked into routine now, the source claimed. It's got to the
01:12point where he rarely steps outside the estate, germs on sets and studios on press tours, he just can't
01:17handle it anymore. Murphy's ex, Mel B., 50, has also lifted the curtain on some of Murphy's private
01:24habits, describing the immaculate mansion he kept during their brief relationship in 2006,
01:29which resulted in them having the child angel, 18, who recently came out as trans. She described
01:35Murphy as an anxious germophobe who carefully controlled his immaculate home, likening it to
01:40a gilded cage despite his seemingly spontaneous comedy persona. She also recalled Murphy hated when
01:46she dismissed his staff and asked him to cook because he barely knew how to use his cooker.
01:50You had to learn Eddie's rules. What nights we could spend with his friends, when to cook,
01:55and when we could watch TV, she said. Spice Girls singer Mel added, I had to brainstorm film choices
02:00with his friend because I saw it as a test. Another insider said, Eddie's world is controlled down to
02:06the last inch. Every object has its proper place, meals follow strict patterns, and he double checks
02:11the locks every night. The documentary glosses over Murphy's reclusive lifestyle. While Mel recalls,
02:18nothing was really in my control. I knew I could never like this and be part of Eddie's kingdom
02:23with his family, chefs, managers always turning up.
