General elections are underway in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, in this context, we go live to Kingstown with our special envoy Belen de los Santos who will tell us more on this significant day. teleSUR

00:15underway and we go live with Belen de los Santos in Kingston with more information about this day.
00:23Hello, Belen. How are you? What else can you tell us in this electoral journey in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines?
00:33Hello, Ana. Exactly. We're actually a few kilometers away from Kingston, but we're heading there.
00:39We are going slowly, constituency by constituency, in order to get to that capital city where the election results will take place
00:51and will be announced later tonight. For now, the election day is underway. It has been so since 7 a.m. in the morning.
00:59It continues to do so. Right behind me, we are actually in West St. George.
01:04And in West St. George, you have the secondary school that is right behind me.
01:09The boating is underway. At this moment, we were just inside and the lines were full in both boating stations.
01:17Let's recall that there are 200 boating centers across the country.
01:23And actually, one interesting fact about this circumscription that we're in right now is that it's the one of the few,
01:32actually one of the two, that has one independent candidate.
01:36So, three candidates for those representation at the parliament.
01:41One for the ULP, of course, the Unity Labour Party, that is Curtis King, and also for the New Democratic Party, it's Cassandra Cupid.
01:51But we also have an independent participant as well.
01:55We were saying that for the great majority, this was a bipartisan election, but there are exceptions, and West St. George is one of them.
02:04However, in this election, let's recall that whoever wins the circumscription will win that representative,
02:12and that will be a defining moment when we see the results.
02:16As we were saying, we are heading towards Kingston.
02:20We are getting closer to the capital, and we will be looking to see what are the results after the voting count when the polling stations close.
02:29Let's recall the polling stations will close approximately at 5, but they may be extended, the idea.
02:35And the goal is that everyone who is in line will be able to vote, and we've been seeing people that continue to come in
02:42because everyone wants to exercise that right to vote.
02:45Let's recall that this is an election that is truly defined vote by vote.
02:50Many of the sectors have been defined by double-digit votes.
02:54That means 20 votes, 40 votes, 50 votes, even one single vote can change the result
03:00and can change the way that that parliament, that single camera is composed, and therefore the ending results.
03:08So everyone is placing and paying very close attention,
03:12and we will continue to bring you a little bit of what is happening here in the Caribbean.
