We go with our special envoy Belen de los Santos, who has all the latest information on this carnival season in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. teleSUR
00:37Steel Band Competition is a must at Vincent's Carnival and people have come out to Victoria Park for one of the week's highlights.
00:46It's a night of pants and costumes at the Steel and Glitter show as the bands give their all before a cheering crowd.
00:53I think about the most energetic festival in the region, in the world.
01:00We don't party like nobody else out there. We go non-stop. The type of energy and pace we bring is unmatched.
01:08The energy is high at the Panorama Competition as the performers embody their favorite soccer vibes.
01:18The lights flash, the rhythmic Steel beats in all its glory and the judges pay close attention to detail.
01:25That song is just an energetic song and our band really is known as the Lights Band or the Energy Band.
01:33So I had to put that kind of arrangement into it, that kind of work to bring out the same energy that the original song had.
01:39And to make sure the players have a good time while executing it.
01:42It means so much to me that I have these young people who are willing to allow me to teach them, take on all the stress that I gave them, and to have this art from continuing.
01:55So the younger ones have to take it along. They have to take it on when I'm gone.
01:59The younger generations have a place in Panorama as they take their first steps in the bands,
02:05following the lead of their teachers and discovering a whole world of Caribbean culture.
02:09To be honest, I didn't feel like myself. I kept moving. I'm mostly, I'm the shy person.
02:16And after I saw, like, the people in the crowd, I said, OK, let's put on a performance, and I started to dance.
02:23I didn't feel like if it was my body, and I felt my body moving all over the place.
02:28My favorite part was when the sparks lit up, they just made me feel a kind of way, excited.
02:34Just like Soca and Calypso, the steel drums bring the Caribbean together in a celebration of regional culture,
02:42as performers from other lands also take part in Binsimas, seeking to obtain the highest titles.
02:47My family is a musical family. I'm not from St. Vincent, I'm from Trinidad and Tobago.
02:53The Mecca is still fun, and it's a pleasure to be here for the 14th year with this wonderful band,
02:58Stalip, Cedar Pistar.
03:00And we just come out on fun tonight, enjoy it, take the title.
03:03We're looking for the attractor tonight, and we're getting it.
03:05In Kingstown, the celebration continues as local identity and tradition take front stage,
03:11captivating everyone.
03:12That is the spirit of Binsimas.
