00:17You know, I run out of scones, and then I run out of, I mean, dad eats like there is no tomorrow.
00:22I run out of cereal, and then I do scones for me.
00:26He doesn't do scones, but I do scones.
00:28Mom, what happened with Nana?
00:30I was calling her because we were supposed to go to Nolan's graduation.
00:34And she says, well, I don't know if I can come because I have a boyfriend now, and I was like, wait a minute.
00:43What do you mean he's 55?
00:45Yes, Veronique, he's 55 and good looking.
00:49I said, Mom, stop it right there.
00:51How did you meet him?
00:52Where did you meet him?
00:54I met him on the internet.
00:55So my sister and I get to work.
00:59I looked at her followers because she didn't have that many.
01:01And I was like, because she said 55.
01:03So I picked out everyone who looked relatively in the age range.
01:08Okay, so I found three options.
01:11Bernhardt, Diego, and Michael Page.
01:13I decided to call Nana.
01:21She tells me that Michael Page is a divorced real estate agent who lives in L.A.
01:26He's half American and half Portuguese.
01:29He's very persistent.
01:30I told him that the age difference we had was impossible.
01:38So he told me, but what's the wrong thing to have to talk?
01:43Actually, there's no wrong thing to talk.
01:45That's true.
01:46They've been talking for eight months.
01:48So I tell Nana that I'd like to check out her Instagram anti-scammer features.
01:53She doesn't know her password, so I need to get into her email to get into her Facebook to get into her Instagram.
01:58The entire process takes about 45 minutes.
02:01Almost every single one of her 160 followers appears to be a scammer.
02:06I check their messages.
02:07I find some red flags.
02:10I ask Nana if she's ever called Michael Page.
02:15But she couldn't really understand him because he spoke in a whisper.
02:19Because apparently he had been in a car accident as a child, which had damaged his vocal cords.
02:25In telling me this, it seems like she doesn't believe it herself.
02:28I tell her I think this is a lie.
02:30I think I get through to her.
02:32I show her how to block his contact.
02:35I tell her any questions she has, he will have an answer to.
02:38The next day, she sends me a text.
02:40So my sister calls her.
03:01It was a disaster.
03:03Apparently, Michael Page drove six hours to his cousin's house and back just to get his passport so he could send a picture of it to Nana.
03:10And I said, what man is driving three hours each way to go find their passport?
03:17Why is it so far away from him?
03:20She goes, fake a picture of a U.S. passport?
03:24I don't think so.
03:25And I said, yes, Nana.
03:28If you don't believe that somebody can fake a picture of a U.S. passport, then you're in a lot of trouble because you're going to have a hard time seeing through some of the other scams.
03:39She gave him her address and they're planning on meeting up for her birthday.
03:42At this point, I'm panicking.
03:45I try calling the police non-emergency line, but she keeps telling me, no victim, no crime.
03:50So I use his pictures to do reverse Google image searches.
03:54At first, I find nothing.
03:56But then, I find the real Michael Page.
03:59Michael Page is not a divorced half-American and half-Portuguese father of two living in Los Angeles working in the real estate business.
04:07The part that she sees, that is the stolen identity of a gay leather daddy living in Palm Springs.
04:15The part that she texts, that person is a mystery.
04:20Out there somewhere.
04:37You know what I want to say?
04:39I want to say that there are a part of me who would like flirt, and that's true.
04:43I don't want to say that there are a part of me who has never been a survivor.
04:48I've been married twice.
04:52I've had a few amants.
04:54I've never been the center of their attention.
04:58You know what I want to say?
04:59And I told you that maybe once before I die, maybe I would have a chance to attract someone.
05:07Well, I don't know.
05:08I don't know.
05:09And you think what, then, of love?
05:12The love, then?
05:14Well, I'm not dead.
05:18But the chances, for me, that there is one time, they're probably nulles.
05:26So, a part of me who wants to dream a little bit, or be a little blue light, or to have
05:32like, to have a little bit of my youngness, I say, why not, now, all that I have, all
05:39that I have, all that I have, all that I have, is to become old, and to die.
05:43So, it would be nice to have a fantasy once again, you know, even if it's in my head.
05:48Because I'm not still dead, in case you don't know.
05:50I'm not still dead, but I'm not still dead.
05:53When I was in sixth grade, my friend and I had a joint boyfriend on a free online RPG
05:58game called RuneScape.
05:59We mainly walked around the game and chatted after school.
06:03Eventually, it escalated, and we got his number.
06:06When we finally worked up the courage to call, none of us said anything on the phone.
06:11The only thing we asked was, can you say coffee?
06:14Coffee.
06:15Because he had a Boston accent.
06:17Coffee.
06:18Coffee.
06:19Coffee.
06:20I didn't know much else about the guy, but it felt exciting to be liked, even by a stranger, even in my head, even just a little bit at all.
06:50I didn't know much about the guy, but I didn't know much about the guy, but I didn't know much about the guy.
