An international tourist has died in a shark attack on the New South Wales Mid North Coast. A man travelling with her also suffered serious injuries and is now recovering in hospital. Beaches in and around the area are closed.

00:00A secluded beach blocked off to the public following a horrific morning in the water.
00:08Two tourists from overseas were bitten at Kylie's Beach in Crowdy Bay shortly after dawn.
00:14Experts believe it was a bull shark.
00:16A woman aged in her mid-twenties passed away at the scene.
00:21A male also aged in his mid-twenties suffered serious injuries.
00:26The incident took place near a campground popular with tourists.
00:30A Taree local witnessed the immediate aftermath while out on his morning walk.
00:35The police four-wheel drive were ferrying the ambulance guys up to where the people were.
00:40And then, lo and behold, the helicopter turned up.
00:43The male victim was flown to John Hunter Hospital in Newcastle and is now in a stable condition.
00:49Paramedics say a witness played a crucial role in saving the man's life.
00:54It's really important to note here that a really good bystander first aid was administered to the male patient.
01:00She put a makeshift tourniquet on that male's leg.
01:03That northern end of Crowdy Bay isn't patrolled and the southern end of the bay is only patrolled on the weekend.
01:09Authorities have responded to the attack by deploying five smart drumlines in the area.
01:14Kylie's Beach and a number of beaches to the north of Crowdy Bay have also been closed until further notice.
01:20I've taken the extended step from a surf lifesaving perspective to block off all access routes to and from between Crowdy Head and here.
01:30And that includes four-wheel drive and walking tracks.
01:33It's very sad. I never go out past the breakers, especially now with so many sharks around.
01:39It's the fourth fatal shark attack in Australia this year.
