Bobby Moynihan tells THR on the carpet of the 'IF' premiere how he thinks people will see this movie the same way they saw 'E.T.' Plus, he opens up about John Krasinski's directing style saying, "It stinks how good he is at this!"

00:00Hi Bobby 7, nice to meet you. It's so great to finally be able to speak to you on this carpet.
00:05Congratulations on this film. I had to ask, what did you first think when you first read this script and when you talked about it with John?
00:13I thought, oh my gosh, they're going to make a movie that needs to be made. There hasn't been anything like this ever.
00:19And after seeing it now, I can't believe it. It's like, I feel like it's a movie like E.T., like a movie that people will be talking about for a long time.
00:26It's beautiful. What was it like working with John as a director? And is this the first time that you two collabed?
00:33First time we worked together, yeah. We had been friendly before that. We were friends before, but this was our first time working together.
00:42And he's absolutely wonderful. It stinks how good he is at this. Because he's so fantastic at the office.
00:49He's so funny and such a good actor. And then it turns out he's also like Steven Spielberg.
00:54Like, it's crazy.
00:56No, it's actually really wild. And I love the whole concept of, of course, imaginary friends.
01:00Did you have an imaginary friend growing up?
01:02I can't believe that I've gotten this far down the line and you're the first person to ask me.
01:08No way.
01:08Isn't that crazy? That if I had imaginary friends, I thought that's all I would be doing.
01:12But yes, I did. I had two imaginary friends.
01:15Do you remember names, what they looked like?
01:18Their names were Fagabeefee and Ishgabeeble.
01:21Oh, okay.
01:22I don't think they looked like anything.
01:24Like, I think I just had names and talked to people.
01:27Okay.
01:28But I also remember me and my friend Maureen found a piece of string with a balloon on it.
01:35Like, bakery string, that red and white string.
01:38Sure.
01:38With a broken balloon on it.
01:40And we carried around for two years and we called it Charlie.
01:42Should we call it Charlie?
01:43Okay, so if I had to give a voice to your imaginary friend in your life, who in Hollywood would you pick to voice them?
01:52Wow.
01:52That's a good Patrick Warburton and Charlotte Rae.
02:00You think they're like a dynamic duo to voice your childhood?
02:04The dynamic duo to voice my childhood.
02:07Yeah.
02:08One final question.
02:09I know I did have to bring out the tissues at some point.
02:11It's a tearjerker, right?
02:14What do you hope that audiences take away from watching this film, and kids especially?
02:17I hope that audiences go home and talk about how much they love this and how happy it made them.
02:23And I hope that it makes them want to do stuff together.
02:27Because that's what it made me want to do with my family.
02:30Thank you so much for stopping by.
02:32Thank you so much.
