Ryan Reynolds tells THR how he found it easy to follow John Krasinski's vision as a director for the 'IF' movie. Plus, he shares how both Gene Wilder and his own children inspired his role.

00:00Congratulations on this film. What was it like being directed by your friend
00:03John Krasinski and how much did you collaborate on this role too because
00:06it's a very animated role that you play. Well first question, very uncomfortable.
00:10No, it was great. I loved, I loved, John wrote a meticulously wonderful script
00:17that is such a, I think a beautiful reflection of his worldview and you
00:22always as an actor always collaborate in many different ways but I gotta say I
00:26just really did what John told me to do. I mean he had such a clear vision I
00:30didn't want to kind of muddy it up with any agenda I might have so I just, I just
00:34kind of followed his lead and I found John's take on this film to be super
00:38inspiring. So yeah, most of what I'm saying in the movie is written, the
00:43written words that Mr. John Krasinski wrote and with the exception of there's an
00:47interview scene in the movie where I just, we're just kind of go off and meet all
00:50these different imaginary friends and that was sort of unscripted and fun but
00:53yeah, that's about, yeah. And any inspiration that you took for this role?
00:57Because I know some Gene Wilder-esque inspiration in there. Well I love Gene
01:02Wilder because he was, you know, he really found a way to embrace mischief and sort of
01:08undermine trust but in a fun way in his roles and particularly like, you know,
01:14when he played Willy Wonka and that sort of thing. But yeah, I really, I take so much
01:18inspiration from my own kids. My own kids are like, they have just a constant and sort of
01:22ceaseless sense of play and I love that and I watch them and I find myself kind
01:27of doing impressions of my kids. I mean, Sean Levy, who directs Deadpool and
01:32Wolverine, he called it about halfway through shooting that movie and I was
01:36writing the script in the voice of my four-year-old daughter Betty and many
01:41times just in the cadence of how she speaks. So I find I really absorb a lot
01:45of their kind of vibes and, you know, translate them through whatever my adult
01:49idiocy would be. So, yeah. Well thank you so much for stopping by. Take care.
