Russia Dumps Tons of Water on the Superjet-100’s PD-8 Engine and Confirms Full Reliability
The United Engine Corporation (ODK), part of the Russian state conglomerate Rostec, has confirmed the successful performance of the PD-8 aircraft engine during intense-rain conditions — a crucial step in the certification process for the powerplant that will equip the Superjet-100 regional airliner.
The tests were carried out by ODK-Saturn at an open-air test stand in the Yaroslavl region, where engineers simulated the ingestion of large volumes of water into the engine during critical flight phases such as takeoff, climb, and approach.
