Noah Kahan reveals if he's been practicing his 2024 Grammys speech this week with THR on the red carpet. Plus, he shares what it means for him to bring his mom to the show and dishes on his friendship with Jelly Roll.
Transcript
00:00You've said that you used to practice your Grammy speech as a kid.
00:03Have you practiced it all this week, or are you just going to wing it when you get up there?
00:07I feel like practicing it is like an acknowledgement that I think I might win,
00:11and I feel like I'm super superstitious,
00:14and then if I say I'm going to start practicing a speech, it's going to kill any chance.
00:18But really I'm not practicing a speech because I'm just trying to live in the moment,
00:21be happy I'm there.
00:22If I get up on stage, I have so many people to thank.
00:25I've stood on the shoulders of hundreds of people that have brought me here,
00:28my mom included, most importantly.
00:30I think I'll thank my mom first and thank the folks that got me here, my fans.
00:34You've been talking about how your mom is your date tonight and building up to this moment.
00:37What does it mean to have her here with you?
00:39When I was 13 years old, my mom started telling me that I was going to go to the Grammys,
00:42and she told me I had to bring her as my date,
00:46and I didn't believe her until we pulled in the car on the way here.
00:50It's a moment where I feel like you can believe in dreams again.
00:53It's almost like if Santa Claus walked through your door when you were 25, 27 years old,
00:57and it's like, oh my God, there's magic still.
00:59That's how I feel, just surreal and just like I'm dreaming.
01:02You've been out and about at all kinds of events this week,
01:04and I loved seeing your bromance with Jelly Roll.
01:07Will we see that bromance continue tonight?
01:09Yeah, Jelly Roll is awesome.
01:11He reminds me of my buddies from back home.
01:12He's so easy to talk to, so fun, so talented.
01:15I saw him last night at Clive Davis just crushing with Lainey Wilson.
01:18He was also amazing.
01:20I would just want to go hang and have a beer with him and just talk about life.
01:23He has such a great perspective.
01:24And you posted a TikTok about UMG taking their music off the platform.
01:29What's your take on the current status of that situation,
01:31and how do you think TikTok and artists benefit from each other?
01:35Yeah, it's definitely a difficult conversation and definitely a difficult topic.
01:38I certainly haven't digested all the facts, and I don't think anyone knows everything.
01:43It's a shame for the developing artists, for sure.
01:45I'm very, very lucky to have built a career over eight years and built a fan base.
01:49I hope that it's resolved, of course, but I like to believe that there was music being made before TikTok
01:54and that there's a way around this and there's a way through it.
01:57And I'm just thinking of the younger artists and hoping that they find their feet.
