00:00Not only do you get to be one of the best songwriters ever, you also get John Cusack to play you in a biopic.
00:09Brian Wilson's biopic Love and Mercy is premiering at the Paramount.
00:19Did you learn anything about yourself playing Brian?
00:22If you immerse yourself in something fully, you learn things about yourself.
00:26Not like ideas, but more about feelings you have and sensitivities you have, hopefully.
00:32Brian is a conjurer of kind of celestial sounds and feelings and things.
00:37So I hope that if we reflect that a little bit, then it'll do his music proud.
00:44When you're doing somebody like Brian Wilson, you could really be overwhelmed by it and the pressure.
00:50So there has to be a certain amount of ego involved where you somehow convince yourself and others
00:54that you can actually do this or pull this off.
00:57And was it difficult directing John in one decade and then Paul in a different decade?
01:01It's always got its challenge as any movie, but this one in particular felt so...
01:05There was kind of a magical quality about this movie from the beginning.
01:09We shot the 60s stuff out first and it got us on such a roll that I think by the time we got to the 80s
01:15when you're dealing with so much more difficult stuff, it sustained us through that.
01:19And do you have a favorite Beach Boys song?
01:21Don't Worry Baby, which is certainly one of the first ones that really kind of got to my heart.
01:26Ahh!
01:28Ah, ah, ah, ah, ah!
01:29Ah, ah!
