00:00Isn't that cute?
00:02Yeah, beautiful.
00:04Thank you for modeling for us.
00:06Grandma Vicki was always a huge ball of light.
00:12Everybody was welcome with open arms.
00:16Ryan was just a funny, cute kid.
00:19Oh, buddy, no!
00:21What is that bag?
00:23But as he grew older, that's when trouble started.
00:26Vicki's fear was pretty intense,
00:31but her love for Ryan was awesome.
00:34Mom, for your own safety,
00:37get him out of that house.
00:39Lifetime worth of hate and anger.
00:43Just brutality and savagery.
00:56So that's her.
01:03I'm trying to remember what's in there.
01:05Oh.
01:06That's Debbie's.
01:07I know what's in there.
01:09That's my one.
01:10It's pizza.
01:11Woo-hoo!
01:12Woo!
01:1355-year-old Vicki Burks is enjoying the festive season
01:16with her family.
01:17I sit at my parents' house,
01:19but my mom's handing out presents.
01:21Ryan is playing a game in the background,
01:25sitting next to my mom.
01:27When things like this would happen,
01:28like Christmas time and stuff,
01:30he kept to himself for the most part.
01:33Christmas was probably the most exciting time for Vicki.
01:37It's purple, baby.
01:38Don't look.
01:39It's got my heart on it.
01:40I've got my girlfriend.
01:41Grandma really did love Ryan.
01:43So anytime the whole family was together,
01:45she was as happy as could be.
01:47Vicki is born in Bradenton, Florida, in 1953.
01:56But when she is young,
01:58the family moved to Ohio,
02:00where she meets Martin Burks.
02:02Vicki went to Cumstall High School,
02:04and our first date was actually a Swedish day dance.
02:08Me and Vicki got married on July 17, 1971.
02:13I was 19 and Vicki was 18 years old.
02:18It was a great day.
02:23Mike was born on November 26, 1971.
02:26Definitely exciting, you know.
02:29Brand new start.
02:31New house.
02:32New family.
02:34Jason was born in March, 1976.
02:39And it seemed good at the time.
02:45I believed she would always be like that.
02:49I wasn't the one that saw the problems.
02:52She did.
02:56It probably started around 1985,
02:59and it just developed from that point forward.
03:04We got divorced.
03:05After that, she was seeing this young guy,
03:08and she ended up marrying him.
03:10It wasn't very long.
03:13It took for Vicki to realize
03:15that things just weren't quite the way
03:17she had hoped they would be.
03:20Now, she's six months pregnant.
03:22She called me one day and made the comment
03:25that she just wasn't very happy.
03:27And I said, tell me what you want to do.
03:30I'll see what I can do to help you out.
03:32And we made arrangements for her
03:35to come back to Springfield.
03:39Vicki came back in 1986, in December.
03:42Come on, Mom.
03:43You're on camera.
03:45Hand and camera.
03:47We were just kind of happy to have my mom back
03:49and her parents back together.
03:51But when she moved back, she was already pregnant
03:54with my younger brother.
03:56Ryan was born on May 1, 1987.
04:02I was excited.
04:03I was happy that it was happening.
04:06I was 11 years old when Ryan was born.
04:10I was really looking forward to being an older brother.
04:14Dad took him and raised him as his own.
04:17It's May, 1988.
04:21The family celebrate Ryan's first birthday.
04:26Ryan's sitting on my mom's lap.
04:28So they're just unwrapping presents.
04:30Can you get the hang of it?
04:32Yeah!
04:34Vicki loved her sons tremendously.
04:36She really did.
04:38Oh, Vicki was quite protective of her.
04:45Because she felt like she was the only one that he had.
04:53I told Vicki that he's just like the other two boys.
04:56There'll be no difference.
04:58He called me Dad all the time.
05:00Because, you know, I was there from day one.
05:02This is when we got remarried in Kentucky.
05:11I was excited.
05:13It was back together.
05:15We were happy.
05:17And now I've got three kids.
05:25We moved into the house on Mill Urbana.
05:28That house, in my eyes, was my last home.
05:39The Burks family gathered to celebrate Jason's high school graduation.
05:44Check, check, check.
05:45Hello, all there.
05:47All my family was there.
05:48My friends, my band at the time was there.
05:50It's time to wake up the neighborhood.
05:53My mom's in a good mood.
05:54She's excited.
05:55Her baby graduated.
05:57Oh, she was bubbly.
06:00Any music, you get her going.
06:04One of my friends come over that was trying to introduce me to somebody.
06:09That person would end up being my first wife.
06:12Mama Burke's down there with her two sons.
06:15I'm going to bring her down the alley.
06:18And nearly three years later, in January 1997,
06:2220-year-old Jason ties the knot.
06:24Vicky was definitely excited about Jason getting married.
06:28It was a big deal.
06:29Mr. and Mrs. Jason Burks.
06:32Ryan didn't want his brother to get married.
06:35He didn't want him being with this girl.
06:39You know, she's invading my area.
06:41Actually, the day of the wedding, he behaved.
06:47But he was only nine, see.
06:49He wasn't really acting up a lot then.
06:52But as he grew older, that's when trouble started.
06:56My first child, Christina, was born on March 29, 1999.
07:12Because my mom never had a daughter of her own,
07:16this was her chance to raise a girl.
07:19Say hi, Papa.
07:21Yeah.
07:23What happened to this one?
07:25Grandma's helping me open my presents.
07:27All of the gifts.
07:29Grandma absolutely spoiling us.
07:31Christina.
07:33Hi, Christina.
07:34Hi, Christina.
07:35Here's Ryan.
07:37Ryan was 11 years old when Christina was born.
07:42Being an uncle was one of the few things he actually cared about.
07:46I always thought of Ryan as, like, my big brother.
07:52My nickname for him was literally Uncle Bubba,
07:55because I couldn't say brother.
07:57And I followed him around everywhere, like a lost puppy,
08:00any time I was over at my grandparents'.
08:07In a way, it was me and Uncle Bubba against the world.
08:13Play it, Ry.
08:16Ryan wasn't super popular.
08:18He had some friends.
08:21Once he started hanging out with the wrong crowd,
08:23getting out a negative reaction for him
08:26was his form of entertainment.
08:28Talking to yourself?
08:30No, I'm talking to him.
08:32If he could make you angry,
08:34he would laugh.
08:41When Ryan is 14 years old,
08:44he has his first run-in with the police.
08:47When I got home from work,
08:49I got a phone call from the Sheriff's Department.
08:52And they were holding Ryan.
08:55The deputy sheriff explains to us
08:58that these boys were in the press box
09:01at the football field at Kenton Ridge.
09:06They had gotten onto the loudspeaker
09:09and were shouting profanities
09:11for the whole neighborhood to hear.
09:13He had to apologize to the school
09:16for what he had done.
09:17He got a small fine.
09:20And he had to do community work.
09:23It didn't seem to phase Ryan.
09:27He didn't care at all.
09:29It was quite apparent how much different he was
09:33from the other two boys.
09:35I mean, it was like night and day.
09:37And it just kept getting worse.
09:38There's two paths you can go along.
09:40The right way of doing something
09:42and the completely wrong way.
09:44He would always choose the wrong path.
09:46Every single time.
09:48Mike needs a Santa Claus outfit on.
09:51He looks like Santa Claus sitting there handing out gifts.
09:52So this is Christmas of 2001.
09:55That's my brother Mike there.
09:59And there's my mom.
10:00My dad's filming.
10:01So you didn't get down that place when we have to come.
10:02Let me get this.
10:03I had bought that three, four weeks in advance of what you told me.
10:07And then there's blue eyes.
10:09Christmas for Ryan.
10:11Christmas for Ryan, as he got older, he didn't partake as much.
10:18He would look at his gifts and open them, and then he would be gone.
10:20I had bought that three, four weeks in advance of what you told me.
10:24And then there's blue eyes.
10:28Christmas for Ryan, as he got older, he didn't partake as much.
10:34He would look at his gifts and open them, then he would be gone.
10:40Ryan spent probably six seven hours a day playing video games it kept him from
10:50getting in trouble more than anything in 2002 Ryan was charged with disorderly
10:59conduct from yelling out death threats out of the car that was new he never
11:06did that before Ryan has to pay a fine and attend counseling I could see that
11:13this was just going to keep getting worse we were at the point then we just didn't
11:20know what to do my second child Stephanie was born on January 26 2003 hanging out
11:34with me and my sister really helped my grandma take a step back from living
11:40with Ryan we were her highlighter of life's innocence in a way Mike is playing
11:54Santa Claus he needs his outfit on I think that we probably thought that he'll grow
12:12up he'll mature and he'll settle down but that never really happened it only
12:18progressed worse and worse in January 2004 the court places 16 year old Ryan on
12:29probation indefinitely for drug abuse the way I saw Ryan growing up and all of his
12:36violent outbursts that was just Ryan being Ryan I had this idealized version of my uncle that was
12:47Uncle Bubba and that was the good person that I knew but Ryan was the monster that
12:53everybody else knew they were two different people but the same entity
13:02in 2004 Ryan decided to take Vicki's car out which he wasn't allowed to when he got home after that
13:11incident Vicki was gonna call the cops and report a stolen car and he said if you call the cops I'm gonna hurt you
13:23we're constantly trying to figure out what to do how we deal with it the court charges Ryan with
13:32menacing and violating his probation they place him in juvenile detention for a minimum of six months
13:39the last time he went to juvenile he was turning 18 at that time the judge straight up told him he said if
13:47you don't straighten your act up you won't be going to juvenile now you'll be going to the jail
13:53Vicki still was his mother and I kept telling her let him figure this out and she couldn't really do it
14:03she couldn't stop taking care of it I wasn't scared of Ryan I felt off by his energy hey we're here today
14:15when I introduce you to a movie so this is Ryan filming now across the street they had just built
14:23some new houses for a senior community we'll tell you a story turn this movie see over there that's
14:35where the old people live and Ryan got in trouble a few times there too because they called the police on
14:40them it's hoping that you know once Ryan matured things would get better and they only got worse
14:52in May 2006 Ryan hits another car and speeds off he is charged with one count of hit and run we get a call
15:03from the sheriff's department come pick him up which I did he come back and he was just mad as a horn at
15:14everybody I told him to leave the house go find someplace to stay but you're not living here I was
15:21chasing him out of house and he started just going in the kitchen and that's where Vicki was standing
15:26Brian ended up pushing my mom down and she fell on her arm broke her arm at four places and from there
15:35he went into the front room where Mike was standing he pushed him down and kicked him in the face police were
15:43called and then he was arrested Ryan was charged with domestic violence they served him 180 days but
15:53they reduced that to 90. Ryan never showed any remorse over that none he was still angry because he got 90
16:03days in jail every time I kick him out she would let him back in the house and I kept telling her not to
16:10do that she just couldn't do it where is he going to go what's he going to do as bad as Ryan treated my
16:20mom my mom still loved him my mom still protected him I'm like mom something bad is going to happen
16:28get him get him out of that house
16:30Mike passed away in December of 2007
16:47he was driving to work one day had a massive heart attack and died instantly
16:54probably the worst day of my life
16:59Mike see ya root the bingos on to victory Mike was kind of the glue to kind of help keep them all
17:09together Ryan is back in jail on drug-related charges but attends the funeral with a deputy sheriff
17:19so when Ryan came to the funeral he was shackled by his ankles and by his wrists
17:25Ryan's crying his eyes out and I was kind of in shock because that's the first time I really saw Ryan
17:32show that kind of emotion
17:34and I remember going up to him I gave him a hug and I'm like Ryan we got to stick together
17:41it's Christmas 2008 and Ryan's at home again with his family if you look he's not interested in
17:59anything that's going on in this point I didn't want him to come back home I really didn't
18:052009 I was driving Ryan and a friend to his party we got in an argument because I didn't want his friend in my
18:17truck I was mad I said I am NOT taking that kid anywhere I don't want him around Ryan was smoking a cigarette
18:26and he put it out my cheek
18:30so then I filed charges I was the only one that wasn't scared as I knew I could handle it
18:37but Vicki was the only one I was concerned about
18:41I didn't know Ryan was capable of such violence
18:46like mom keep him out of that house he is going to kill you
18:53but her reaction was I don't know what to do he's my son I can't let him live on the streets
19:00one occasion when we got home the truck was missing so I drove around never found it come home and there's
19:10the truck so I walked in the house and I told him I said you're not take that truck I did report it stolen
19:19because he shouldn't have been driving when the police showed up at the house
19:26they grabbed him and hauled him away
19:28the police arrest Ryan because of an outstanding warrant for domestic violence from his attack against Martin
19:35he was given nine months in prison
19:38when Ryan was locked up my parents were stress-free
19:45but whenever Ryan would come back you could cut the tension with a knife
19:51when you come out of prison he was definitely worse he was nasty
19:57I had to put a lock on my bedroom door to keep him out
20:03we never knew at any time what he was going to do or when or to who
20:12we were so desperate we were trying to figure out how
20:15we could get him in a situation like a halfway house
20:19just getting away from us
20:22Vicki was so upset that she wrote a letter to the judge
20:26I'll read it for you
20:28honorable judge
20:30Ryan Dillon is our son
20:32and he threatens us daily
20:34he says if he goes back to jail
20:37when he comes back he will kill us
20:39or burn the house down
20:41we feel our safety is a concern
20:45we didn't get a whole lot of response from it
20:49you know
20:50because he's an adult
20:52they were just trying anything
20:56they needed help and they didn't know what to do
20:59so I was trying to get my parents to move to Florida
21:05my dad thought he could just buy a duplex
21:09and have Ryan live in one side
21:12and then they could live in their separate house
21:15they came down here to visit me
21:19just to see if they liked it
21:21Ryan was acting great
21:24he's very relaxed
21:25we thought okay this might work
21:28when we got back home from that vacation
21:32things were normal for a short period of time
21:35but then everything started coming back again
21:39and it was progressively getting worse
21:44Vicki's fear was pretty intense
21:48but her love for Ryan was also
21:51she just wanted what was best for him
21:55and to protect him
21:57she was his mom
21:58he just couldn't stand her
22:02it was so obvious
22:04you could see it
22:05May 8th of 2012
22:12I had come home from work
22:15and I noticed the pickup was missing
22:18if Ryan got in an accident
22:23we could get sued and lose everything
22:25just because of him
22:27when he got home
22:29Vicki was very upset
22:31the main concern with Ryan was
22:34we had no idea
22:36what to expect
22:38he was relentless
22:41he would not let up on arguing with his mom
22:44the argument continued
22:46until 1 o'clock in the morning
22:49worst part was him standing at the door
22:52beating on it and screaming at both of us
22:55he shouted
22:57he might as well kill us both
22:58and just take everything
23:04when I get up
23:05I would give her a kiss
23:06before I went down
23:07got cleaned up
23:08went to work
23:10after putting the lock on the door
23:12I would lock it when I walked out
23:15just to make sure she was okay
23:17I knew Ryan was awake
23:19because I could hear him in his room
23:21I went to work
23:23every day I'd come home at lunch time
23:26when I got home
23:29Ryan was standing in the kitchen
23:32that was not Ryan
23:33he would normally be asleep
23:35Ryan said to me
23:38I wish you hadn't told mom about the truck
23:41I asked Ryan
23:43I said hey
23:44where's your mom
23:45and his response was
23:47she went shopping with her sister
23:49that was Vicki's day off
23:51so I didn't think anything about it
23:53after I went back to work
23:56and finished out my ship
23:58I come back home
23:59and the truck was gone again
24:02I'm looking around
24:07Vicki's nowhere to be found
24:09I called her sister
24:14and she informed me
24:16that she hadn't been with Vicki
24:18now I'm a little nervous
24:21so I just kept calling everybody
24:24no sign of Vicki anywhere
24:27919
24:30uh yes
24:31I think I need to report a missing person
24:35919
24:47919
24:48what's going on man?
24:49we have a son
24:50lady with us
24:51and you have records on him
24:52I'm sure Ryan Dillon
24:54we have a pickup truck
24:55that's also missing
24:57and my wife's car's here
24:59she's not
25:00as far as I can tell
25:02she's been missing
25:03since I believe six voters
25:05when
25:07the deputies arrived on the scene
25:09they met with
25:10uh
25:11Martin Burks
25:12I responded to
25:14meet with the
25:15uniform sergeant
25:16and deputy
25:17that was on scene
25:18investigators take Martin
25:20to the sheriff's office
25:21to be questioned
25:22I immediately called
25:24Clark County prosecutor
25:25Andy Wilson
25:26he found some smudges of blood
25:29and said hey Andy
25:30something's not right
25:31at this scene
25:32with my experience
25:34and gut instinct
25:35it appeared that
25:36we might have had homicide
25:37on him
25:39I request that
25:42Spatial Agent Brian White
25:44respond to process the scene
25:46a lot of the bloodstains
25:48that we saw
25:49were
25:50airborne at one point
25:52meaning
25:53they could have been
25:55discarded from
25:56some sort of weapon
25:57you could see
25:59you could see kind of
26:00the movement of
26:01where that blood
26:02had been flung
26:03and it was
26:04right above
26:05where that chair was
26:06and on the floor
26:08were a couple of divots
26:10he's like I think
26:14whatever happened
26:15happened right here
26:16the way the blood was disturbed
26:20something had been
26:22dragged through it
26:23everything flows from the kitchen
26:25to the back porch
26:26and there's a doorway there
26:28items were piled on top of it
26:32to make it look like
26:33it's never been used
26:35however those items
26:36also have bloodstains on them
26:38and Brian said
26:39I bet our bodies down there
26:40it was an entrance
26:47into a cellar
26:49we could immediately
26:51see bloodstains
26:52leading down from the steps
26:54and at the bottom of the steps
26:57we find
26:58a body
26:59Martin Burgs gave us information
27:00that she had a tattoo
27:01and she said
27:02I bet our bodies down there
27:03it was an entrance
27:04into a cellar
27:05we could immediately see bloodstains
27:06leading down from the steps
27:07and at the bottom of the steps
27:09the information
27:10that she had a tattoo
27:11on her ankle
27:12when we saw the body
27:13we was able to see the tattoo
27:16we were able to identify the body
27:18as Vicki Burgs
27:20the trauma to her body
27:23was probably one of the worst
27:24I've seen
27:25it looked to us
27:27that there was some sort
27:28of a blunt object
27:29that was used
27:30to beat her
27:31we found in the laundry room
27:35there were clothes
27:37that tested positive for blood
27:40then we knew
27:41we did have a clean up
27:42type situation
27:44everyone that was on scene
27:47or had contact
27:48with Vicki Burgs
27:49were considered
27:50a possible suspect
27:52it was important
27:53for us to interview Martin
27:55so you don't have anything
27:56to do with Vicki's disappearance
27:58you know
27:59how can you prove that?
28:01because I was at work
28:02she disappeared
28:03the whole time
28:04I clocked in at
28:05probably about 6
28:07I'm guessing
28:086.38
28:09and I clocked out
28:10exactly at 3.15
28:12but I didn't come home
28:13and lunch
28:16so was Ryan home
28:17at 11.30?
28:1911.35 yeah
28:21what was his demeanor?
28:22calmer than he was
28:23the night before
28:24quite a bit
28:25so when Marty was interviewed
28:27by the sheriff's detectives
28:29he gave a pretty good timeline
28:30of what he had done
28:31the morning
28:32that Vicki went missing
28:34he made the comment
28:35at lunchtime today
28:36he wished I hadn't told him all
28:38of the truck being gone
28:40I just kind of blew him off
28:41because I didn't want to
28:42get an argument with him
28:43on my lunch break
28:44I was able to obtain
28:46statements from his
28:47employers of his schedule
28:48for that day
28:49verifying that he was at work
28:51at around 10.30 that evening
28:57our advocate
28:58and the detectives
28:59went in that interrogation room
29:00and told Marty
29:01that his wife was dead
29:02I was shocked
29:10I was upset
29:12I was mad
29:14first words out of my mouth is
29:17Ryan did this
29:20he made comments like
29:21it's one of these days
29:22one of these days
29:23you people aren't going to wake up
29:25or something like that
29:26you know
29:27one of these days
29:28I will get eaten
29:29I wanted them to catch him so bad
29:32and I didn't care what they did
29:34or how they did it
29:36based on the information that we received
29:42Ryan Dillon was our prime suspect
29:44when a suspect flees from a murder
29:50somebody who's got a criminal history
29:53you're worried about the safety of anybody
29:55who comes across him
29:56at that point it's a race against time
29:59to get him into custody
30:00before he can do something else
30:02we had put a be on the lookout
30:05for the Dodge Dakota pickup truck
30:07and checked to see if anybody
30:09may have ran the license plate
30:12we had found that a deputy
30:14from all Glees County
30:15around 70 80 miles
30:17north of Springfield
30:18had stopped the pickup truck
30:19for a traffic violation
30:21at 2 29 p.m.
30:23the deputy found that it was Ryan Dillon
30:26that was driving the truck
30:27he issued him a written warning
30:30and let him go about his way
30:35as detectives are working to hunt down Ryan Dillon
30:38the family received the devastating news
30:41I got a call
30:43and it's my dad
30:44he said
30:46Jay
30:47I've got bad news
30:48your mom's dead
30:50and it wasn't an accident
30:52I said
30:54oh my god
30:55Ryan killed mom
30:57and he's like
30:58yes
30:59all I can think of is
31:01my brother's on the loose
31:03where's my kids
31:04my mom sat me down on the couch
31:07grabbed my hand
31:08and she said
31:09Ryan killed grandma
31:11I remember
31:13just screaming
31:14what
31:15and I just remember
31:18feeling like my entire world
31:20had been shattered
31:21she loved him with everything in her heart and soul
31:26and that didn't matter a lick to him
31:29I
31:31don't remember
31:33when
31:34I started crying
31:36until
31:38after I processed
31:40that
31:41the noise I was hearing
31:42was me
31:43screaming and crying
31:45into my mom's chest
31:46on May 10th 2012
31:48the medical examiner carries out Vicki Burks autopsy
31:53the coroner described her manner of death as one forced trauma to the head
31:59both of Vicki's pinkies were broken on both her hands
32:04and appeared to me as in a manner like she was trying to protect herself
32:08we asked Martin Burks if he would look around the residence and see if anything was missing that would resemble a blunt instrument
32:18and he later reported that an aluminum baseball bat that was kept in the mudroom was missing
32:25I received a call at the Delavan police department had located the truck
32:38the Delavan police officer found Ryan Dilling walking down the road
32:43he lies about having the keys to the truck
32:46he lies about being involved in the truck
32:48he initially gives them a fake name
32:53after Ryan was arrested
32:56we sent a team of detectives investigators up to Wisconsin to conduct an interview
33:01what's going on with this truck?
33:03the truck was stolen
33:06and I wasn't driving
33:08ok
33:09this guy is just fabricating
33:11and making up these bizarre stories
33:14detective Bronfield came into the interview later on
33:17we're here investigating the theft of the motor vehicle
33:21and we're also here to conduct an investigation on the death of your mother
33:28you know she was murdered
33:38what we really want is we want him to make a confession
33:42on May 14th of 2012
33:52Ryan was formally charged with Vicki's homicide
33:57Ryan requests to speak to a detective from Wisconsin called Shannon Illingworth
34:01she had developed a little bit of a rapport with Ryan
34:04like I said whatever's happened has already happened
34:07there's nothing we can do about it
34:09all we can do is move forward
34:11I just don't want to get blamed for something that I didn't do
34:14detective Illingworth interviews Ryan on May 15th
34:18hoping to get a confession
34:20that I could see in your eyes
34:22you're hurting about something right now Ryan
34:25but if they're not going to tell you the truth
34:27then the next best thing is to give us easily disprovable lies
34:31single or married?
34:33widowed
34:35you were widowed?
34:36you weren't married?
34:37no
34:38she died
34:39or just disappeared
34:41he gave us lie after lie after lie that we very easily could disprove
34:48do you realize you never even asked me how she did it?
34:53never once
34:54do you know why you didn't ask?
34:56you don't know how she did it
34:58no I don't
34:59yeah you do
35:01there was none of it because he was the one who did it
35:03and he knew exactly what had happened
35:07on May 18th detective Illingworth interviews Ryan again
35:10after looking into some of his previous claims
35:14there's two people in the house between 7 and 11 on that day
35:19I wasn't there that day
35:21we know that he's not telling the truth during that interview
35:25why does nobody have a marriage certificate for you?
35:28and what happened to her? where is she?
35:31she's vanished with a kid
35:33you have a kid too?
35:35there was no record of him ever being married
35:38he said that he had a child
35:39no record at all
35:40no record at all
35:41it just wasn't true
35:42I really
35:43I have no clue
35:44I know I didn't do any of this
35:47it wouldn't hurt me
35:50honestly
35:51it was
35:53the skeptic
35:55at some point he starts to maybe try to deflect towards Marty a little bit
36:00the deep-seated anger and the issues that he had with his mom and with Marty
36:07my mom probably had a lot of enemies out there
36:10he also really ran down his mom a lot
36:13she's a terrible person
36:15lots of people don't like her
36:17again deflecting attention away from him
36:20trying to put it on an outside person
36:22Ryan was extradited back to Ohio on July 17, 2012
36:28the trial was in February 2014 and he pled not guilty
36:33Ryan has maintained his innocence regarding us
36:36and I don't believe that has changed to today
36:39in my opinion
36:40this is what happened on the morning of May 9, 2012
36:46so Marty leaves for work
36:48Vicky's still in bed
36:49she comes down that morning
36:51and is sitting at that kitchen table
36:54Ryan comes down
36:56he sees Vicky sitting there
36:58he hits her across the head
37:01I think that she was knocked out of this chair
37:07she was probably on the ground
37:10he's throwing this blood up on the ceiling
37:13he's throwing this blood on the curtains
37:16he beats her until she stops moving
37:19dragging that body
37:21he throws her down in the cellar
37:23he spends the next couple hours before Marty gets home for lunch
37:27cleaning that area up
37:31at some point Marty gets home
37:33eats a sandwich real quick
37:34talks to Ryan real quick
37:35goes out
37:37so we think shortly after
37:39Marty leaves for work
37:41is when Ryan hops in that truck and takes off
37:48part of me wanted to hate him
37:50for what he did to my mom
37:52and I remember seeing him
37:56and I kind of felt guilty
37:58that I almost had a little bit of sympathy for him
38:02the trial lasted five days
38:04the jury found him guilty
38:06of aggravated murder
38:08felony murder
38:10purposeful murder
38:11tampering with evidence
38:12and receiving stolen property
38:14I had to realize that
38:17Uncle Bubba
38:18really didn't exist
38:20and it was just Ryan the monster
38:22the defendant was sentenced to life in prison without parole
38:28after the trial there's the appellate process
38:32he actually was able to have the aggravated murder conviction overturned
38:44the court said that there was plenty of evidence that he had actually done the murder
38:48but there wasn't enough evidence of premeditation
38:52Ryan ultimately was sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole after 18 years
38:56the fact that he hasn't accepted responsibility for what he's done shows that he isn't reformed
39:06shows that he's not remorseful
39:08and if you can't be sorry or remorseful for killing your mom
39:12what kind of threat do you pose to society
39:18I have no emotional connection with Ryan at all
39:22other than anger
39:24and he's not my son anymore
39:28if he gets out
39:30it would be nothing for him to do the same thing again
39:34sitting here now
39:36I hate Ryan with every fiber of my being
39:40I'll never forgive Ryan for what he did
39:43Isn't that cute?
39:44Yeah, beautiful
39:46Thank you for modeling for us
39:48When my grandma was still alive
39:52I was still going by Stephanie
39:54I actually came out as transgender
39:58and I wish my grandma was here to support me being trans
40:02She was always supportive, always very loving
40:06I miss her a lot
40:08I miss her a lot
40:11Definitely miss her
40:14Keep thinking, what would it be like if she was still around?
40:18The first event I had after grandma died was a dance recital
40:30And when I looked out into the audience
40:35I saw Steph, I saw my dad, I saw my step-mom, I saw my grandpa
40:41And right next to all of them
40:45was one empty seat
40:47And
40:49End
40:50End
