00:00we've only got a week until the kitchen is arriving so all of this needs to be done before
00:11then walls and ceilings are really important actually underrated sometimes good boy what
00:20keeps us going in between the highs and lows of the whole renovation project is when we can get
00:27together and do things as a family they're bringing it out any little tiny mistake and the whole glass
00:34tabletop could shatter into a million pieces I'm getting nervous now it's the end whose idea was
00:43it about a hundred feet of lights mr. with some guests coming in a few weeks it's going to be
00:49really nice to have the Sun Terrace finished finally it was like a big moment at the end of a long
01:05journey that's leprechaun green beautiful color I love the color but yeah it's not it's too bright
01:12the intensity at the moment so close to the end is ridiculous well if he doesn't do it on Thursday
01:22it won't be done in time right because he's only got Thursday in front it's pushing it already I'm
01:28just having to leave it all in John's hands I don't it just couldn't be worse timing really
01:36I think it's pretty touch and go as to whether everything will be finished on time for the
01:52housewarming party it's too close to call
01:54on the Costa del Sol the renovation project is heating up with the first floor and basement
02:13finished the heart of the house is starting to near completion the kitchen's in now the fun starts
02:22because we feel like we're so close to the end of the renovation we thought it would be nice to
02:28hold a little summer party slash housewarming and just a way of saying thanks to all those people
02:34that have helped along the way the party is in a little over a week away and there's still a long
02:41list of jobs left to complete I do feel like if we're gonna get this party across the line for the
02:48start of summer to sort of celebrate the end of the renovation we might be cutting it down to the
02:54wire slightly as they approach the finish line the jobs that are left a largely skilled building work
03:01that Jasmine and John aren't qualified to help with there are lots of jobs happening all at once
03:09there's work going on in practically every corner of this house but needs must we've got to get it all
03:16done but what she can do is try and keep Dominic and his team to their schedule after an extensive
03:24hunt to find balustrades to finish off the exterior staircase he has managed to source ones that match the
03:3030 year old design of the originals in a local builders yard ah that's good yes it's like looking
03:38for gold this slightly what it's like looking for gold how do you mean getting one of these in stock
03:44oh you managed to find one though yeah and they've got the rest of these lovely but um something like
03:52that we'll just get rid of that last part yeah how do you attach it to the chemical anchor chemical
03:58and because it's big and square it just puts that last bit of strength you think amazing it's worked
04:05really well oh thank you elsewhere outside the tiling of the stairs down to the basement is proceeding a
04:14pace you can hear you can hear the tile cutting going on they're doing the stairs the stair risers
04:22which is brilliant I'll be so happy when they're done it will set the whole thing off but as you can
04:27hear it's super noisy here there is no escape from its rackets I've chosen quite a traditional tile
04:41for the stair risers because I think it's in keeping with the traditional style of this house I think
04:48those stairs would be so boring if you had the same tile on every single part but the fact we've got
04:56quite a modern tile on the top which extends down to the patio but then a really beautiful
05:02traditional style tile on the risers it just makes them much more of a feature however one feature they
05:11have had little control of is the neighbor's wall it remains unfinished as their builder has become
05:16ill what are we gonna do about the wall in the garden but we can't really go any control over that have we
05:21no shall I phone my neighbor and just sound it out and see what's happening now
05:29with the wall stalling the garden progress for now the attention is on getting the exterior of the house
05:38up to scratch there are lots of areas of the house that haven't been painted yet Carlos and Martin did the
05:48front of the house and so there's still the side and the back of the house to do
05:55Dominic's team are painting inside too Jasmine wants to paint the alcove shelves green and a sample of the color that she wants is already up
06:10so I think it's going to be quite a dark color I think that's in the flesh rather than looking at
06:17it on a screen to see if it's going to work because that's probably a bit too green I can already see
06:24yeah it's too dark in it it's not too dark is it sort of it needs to be more of a gray green it's hard to
06:32have the confidence to paint a wall green I think revamping them by painting this beautiful really
06:39deep green color will really make them look much more attractive once you've got beautiful things on
06:46the shelves and you know it'll make the fireplace really stand out so it's just the question of
06:52finding the right shade of green
07:04the next day Dominic has painted the alcoves in the new green that Jasmine wants to test how the color looks on a big surface
07:12so we've had a color match for this green and uh it hasn't matched that well Jasmine's come up
07:22it it should have a hint of gray in it and it doesn't it's really green we're not happy with it but
07:30Jasmine hasn't seen it yet so we're waiting
07:32yes it doesn't look exactly like the one I chose I don't think no a bit more greeny like grass green isn't it it is we haven't got that grey tinge to it so is that the one I chose and that's the one that they've given you when they tried to match it so on the left is the paint color we want the one you chose yeah I mean it's a nice
07:50color but I don't I think it's not quite that's leprechaun green it's not quite leprechaun is it but it is I mean it's a beautiful color I love the color but yeah it's not it's too bright knowing that Jasmine might not like it Dominic has created a new shade of green by mixing in some off
08:05white paint paint like I wanted not the same color as the kitchen but
08:08not the same kit but a similar muted sort of grey green but darker than the kitchen yeah now no number two
08:28sort of gray green but darker than the kitchen yeah now no number two mix is
08:37this one so it's very close to that right very very close that looks much
08:43better yeah actually good unfortunately or timber the one for the wood is coming
08:53out drastically that's the same as I don't think any of them are exactly the
09:00same I'll give that another cover see how it looks when it's dry just to make sure
09:04because some paints they just a bit more depth to them they changed I don't think
09:09you'll ever paint a piece of wood and paint the wall and it be identical colors
09:13with the same color pattern it just doesn't happen the decision is made to
09:19paint over the area and the wooden doors of the cupboards with the new blend
09:24that Dominic has created and then they will assess the overall effect well let
09:30me know how you get on I'll come and have a look once that once we've got that
09:33woodwork paint sorted all right thank you after making that big decision another
09:43one Jasmine made a while ago is being delivered I've been putting off getting
09:49the big furniture for the living room like the sofa because we didn't have space
09:55anywhere to store it and I didn't want it to get ruined before we'd even had a
09:59chance to use it but when the sofa arrived still a bit too early really we're not
10:05ready for it it's really exciting along with the other jobs on the to-do list the
10:11deadline is focusing minds the party is coming up incredibly soon and so we
10:19need to start getting the furniture in otherwise we risk not having it there on
10:24the day
10:39in Estepona it's a hive of activity at the house even joy and Albion are getting
10:44involved you know all dining room table what about painting the legs green to match
10:52the new green cupboards that mum is done I mean painting is not my forte I think we've
11:01learned not a lot is my forte when it comes to DIY but Albion did all those
11:06months back painting his bedside table and that came out looking pretty good so
11:10yeah I mean I think the problem with the kids is their attention span I imagine
11:14we'll start the legs and I'll be on finishing the legs you ready that's it
11:21look well done it's just so satisfying it's satisfying why I tell us that's why
11:27it'll be when you're eating your dinner off your fancy new table that you two have
11:29done yourselves
11:33are you looking forward to the renovating ending yes you can finally be in a
11:38house that's not dusty it will finally be in a house that doesn't have lots of
11:45tradesmen and also for the rest of the summer holidays you can have lines without
11:50being woken up by hammering and drilling and cutting and grinding yeah throughout
11:56the renovation with the environment and budget in mind Jasmine and John have
12:00tried to recycle what they can it's good Alps good work this table was one of the
12:08first things we bought to put in this house there was 80 euros with four chairs
12:15and now we're going to use it again and we're giving a new lease of life maybe we
12:20could paint your nose green and give you a new lease of life sounds fun I
12:25volunteer you wanted to have your nose painted no to the paint his nose we just
12:32roll over any bits where it's like thick over my corner
12:35well I was doing under there like a mechanic this is underneath a car fix me
12:40here well two more legs to go and the backs yeah I do worry that in the last few
12:49weeks of focusing on renovation we've kind of neglected the kids of it so even
12:54spending half an hour painting a table leg is nice with the legs requiring a
13:01few coats of paint it'll be a few days before the table is ready another job
13:07Jasmine and John want to strike off their to-do list is getting their
13:10driveway gates installed we've had to build a new column just take the weight of
13:15the gate we've liaised with the gate guy who hasn't got the gate yet it's quite a
13:21mechanism hopefully it will turn up we had a three week lead time and we're very
13:27close to six weeks now so as you can imagine it's not the greatest from one
13:34problem outside that's out of their control to one inside that John can shed
13:39some light on well the one thing we've slightly realized that is because these
13:43kitchen is from a showroom they're obviously giving you the two options of
13:50colors of lights a nice warm light and a much less nice daylight so currently
14:00that's my worst nightmare as a I mean that literally is my pet hate if you stay in a hotel
14:05that's mixed color temperatures lighting does my head in so I'll have to solve
14:10that somehow this is white but we want this one it's like tungsten okay yeah it's
14:23better warm warm with the housewarming party around the corner Jasmine still needs
14:31to tackle an untouched room our bedroom has been the very last priority of
14:39everything because we're trying to get the children's areas done and then trying to
14:45get the all the communal areas done but what I would love to see in here is a
14:50really calming space where I can just come and relax that day will come one day I'm sure so this bed we
15:05bought together with Joy's bed and both beds were upholstered with like a grey
15:11linen but underneath was this nice velvet which I actually prefer so I just took off
15:15the linen and we've got a brand new bed I've had to move the bed out of the way
15:21because the electrician was fitting this light fitting feels a bit low actually but
15:26I think because it's over the bed it will be fine so I'm gonna try and move the bed
15:30back into its normal position and I can get all the furniture in place and get rid of
15:35all the other junk I'm sure how heavy it is okay it's like driving a very big car when I bent down
15:50did that sound like I farted my life with orders for bedside tables and furnishings yet to arrive
16:10finishing the main bedroom will be down to the wire when Jasmine and John started their build they
16:19thought it would have been finished by now however with delays accumulating over the course of the
16:25renovation the house is still a building site so with Jasmine's family in town for a special occasion
16:37they are taking a much-needed break from the renovation we are having a nice family boat trip
16:43today to celebrate my sister's birthday and she's out here with the rest of the family
16:50we had a really nice afternoon out on our boat and that was a good break because I had no phone signal
17:07signal but reality returns as soon as they reach the shore with a few days until the housewarming party
17:23they have received news on the driveway gates we've had a couple of minor obstacles with getting the
17:33driveway finished the gates have been slightly delayed the manufacturer has said there's a small
17:42complication with the center post so they're working on it they're going to get it to us as soon as
17:48possible I don't know how soon that's going to be but as I'm coming to realize nothing is ever
17:55straightforward with an uncertainty as to whether the gates will arrive in time for the housewarming
18:01party there is however better news in the living area Quinn has been painting the wooden elements of
18:08the lounge unit with Dominic's new mix of the green paint how's the green I think it's a good match I
18:17mean it looks good here especially those little handles yeah because that looks very different at
18:24the moment today that's got more natural light on it though it's a really good match oh it's good and
18:29it's and I was skeptical but now it's done it's good yeah I take it back jazz was right again well
18:34yeah I do agree everybody said that everybody's gone no and then looked at it and gone oh yeah it's fine
18:39actually it's good a few ornaments in there it'll get even better at this stage of the process we just
18:44need everything yeah we can't change anything god look nice with the work paused for the evening
18:57there's nothing more they can do except continue the celebrations for the birthday girl and finally
19:03put the basement area through its paces
19:09it's just a bit tricky because obviously we don't have a proper kitchen and it's really dusty and
19:20the garden is full of mud and tiles stuff like that but we're not letting that dampen our spirit
19:28we're still enjoying time together and we are still celebrating her birthday so it's so nice to have
19:45them here we miss them a lot and wish we could see more of them I can't imagine how stressful this
20:08is because I've only been here for two days and it's hard work living in a house where the kitchen
20:15is not finished and you're and that kind of thing but it looks like it's gonna be fantastic we still
20:22have quite a mountain to climb and it feels like we've still got quite a lot ahead of us and mountain
20:29it's tall the time to get up there is very short this renovation has been all-consuming for us over
20:39the last few months and the intensity at the moment so close to the end is ridiculous it's gone to the next
20:49level so it never stops you know we have of course taken some time off to be with the family but it's
20:59straight back into it
21:00on the costa del sol there's good news with the neighbors adjoining wall allowing builder matt and
21:19the team to crack on finally things are starting to happen with this wall my neighbor's got a new
21:26builder who seems to be very good and they've been working on it so that we can get this side
21:34finished so the guys have already red gripped it ready to be plastered rendered the light fittings can
21:45but can be on because the electricity is there ready we've got so little time left before everyone's
21:53coming around to see our house and to appreciate everything it's cutting it really fine now to try
22:01and get this garden done in the time that we've got and that wall well we can just hope for a miracle
22:07though it's not finished having the basic wall constructed work can now begin on the garden
22:15we are so lucky with this house because we have the most lovely neighbors maria and manuel and their
22:23children live next door and manuel's a gardener and when he saw the state of the garden after the
22:32builders had terrorized it he said would you like me to come and help you with the garden and i was like
22:38yes please because i'm so bad with gardens preparing the soil is the first step with the
22:44garden and we can do that straight away then we can put in the plants and we can put turf down because
22:50the grass is gone now the grass is completely wrecked and when we have the housewarming party it would be
22:58really nice if the garden was green and i think it would just finish it off to be honest turfing it is
23:05a more expensive solution but it is also a much quicker solution and at the moment time is of the
23:11essence
23:12with the builders and gardeners done for the day jasmine john joy and albion take a step off site
23:23and a step back onto the court amazingly it's been almost five months to the week since i broke my leg
23:32playing paddle and yet it feels in the last few weeks i've finally stopped limping which feels like
23:37a good achievement joy i mean i'm definitely going to take it easy being that it's the first game back
23:51but also today feels feels like a big moment at the end of a long journey

24:08i can never get the hand eye coordination like i think the racket's longer than it is
24:16i am hopeless i i wouldn't quite say i'm a lost cause but close so i think if i was to
24:24do it more regularly i'd get better
24:27i've got some sort of problem with spatial awareness
24:31i should have some lessons why don't you give me some lessons
24:34i'm not sure i can teach spatial awareness
24:36snow day ready
24:44jazz tonight feels like a really pivotal moment
24:48my leg break sort of surprised us all and has genuinely has dominated far too much of this year
24:55so it feels like from this point onwards we can sort of push any leg issues or worries behind us
25:01we can move forward with family life and the life that we intended the reason we moved out here
25:08it feels like it can begin again good game here's to many more happy paddle games yeah
25:15it almost feels like we are coming full circle and we're coming through a pretty dark tunnel
25:24where you know john broke his leg then he got thrombosis then he had a heart attack
25:31and all of that coinciding with all of the renovation of the house
25:37i can finally see light at the end of the tunnel
25:40with the neighbor's wall now heading in the right direction jasmine is hopeful that the garden will
25:53be turfed in time for the housewarming party so she heads off to get some plants
25:58i absolutely love garden centers i could just walk around all day it's spending money it's a nightmare
26:06i shouldn't be trusted in a garden center the main things that i'm looking for today are some
26:13nice plants for the garden that are colorful indigenous plants that we don't need loads of
26:19watering or don't need loads of maintenance i also need to look into how much it's going to cost
26:25me to buy topsoil i probably need a bit of advice on what to buy because i don't really know much
26:32about gardening at all hola perdón cuáles las plantas mejores para exterior que no necesitan mucho
26:44como se dice mantenimiento pero con flores muy bonitas verde todo año vale pues si quieres vamos a
26:52ver en la zona exterior te enseño una planta más exterior mira pues por aquí mira en concreto mira
26:59que está en la el pelagón y esto tiene desprende un olor mira huele sí que repele el mosquito pero no
27:11no tiene no tiene mucho ahora mismo ahora mismo no porque se ha vendido todo esto tiene mucho es un
27:19sistema natural es ecológico y funciona mira te enseño por aquí tenemos las buganvillas de todos los
27:27colores así si es muy típica de sí muchas personas me dice que se buganvilla no debería tener porque porque es un poquito sucia así porque en la piscina y en el jardín es verdad si se cae un poquito la hoja si es un poquito sucia pero pero luego el color es vale la pena yo creo que sí

28:02i really think that plants and greenery just finish off a space for me it doesn't look finished if you
28:10haven't got plants there maybe this little one to get started this tree is only 33 euros
28:31wow these are amazing this is mimosa and they have a beautiful yellow flower when you touch them the
28:38leaves all close up it's really amazing so weird i'm gonna take this one withers before your eyes
29:00i feel like i've just come out with a random selection of plants that i like
29:04but i'm not quite sure where each one's gonna go i'm sure each one will find its place in my home
29:10looks like a lot in the trolley but i don't think it's gonna even touch the sides once i get this lot
29:14home i'll be back for sure
29:18back at the house builder dominic has completed the balustrade for the stairs leading to the garden
29:35where we've installed the stairs from the ground floor balcony down to the garden level
29:43we obviously had to take out a little bit of the balustrades and so in order to make that
29:47safe and stable we've had to put in a newel post which is like the corner post which keeps everything
29:54stable solid no one's gonna lean on the balcony and it'll all tumble down
30:00john is lending a hand with a job that is within his skill set grouting on the outside of the basement
30:06window basically we're running out of time there's loads of tiles that aren't grouted
30:13i'm trying to grout them before we have our party and everything else
30:18i'm sure grouting is my forte but if you know right now diy is not my forte
30:31that's feeling that's pretty too much water
30:42tiny tiny little i think i've just used half their brow
30:45after mixing a fresh thicker batch john can proceed
31:00i'm not sure this is the right color for this tile
31:04whether it should be more of a pure white last time i actually grouted was the first flat jazz
31:08i bought together the last time i did any grouting and that grouting looked terrible too
31:18i think jazz is going to come back and tell me this should be white
31:21because now i see it against the blue it's not quite right
31:26as he finishes off jasmine is back from the garden center to assess his work
31:40i haven't had grass since that flat i haven't i forgot that you need so little water in your
31:45mixers that i basically trashed like half the bag of crap and had to throw it down the drain
31:51this looks okay right that looks really good it's amazing how white that look
31:54compared to the stuff when it's not on a blue tile is it the same same grout same grout looks really
32:00good well done with friends and family coming in a matter of days for their party there's still lots
32:08to finish everything is coming to a head everything is coming to the final decisions the last big push
32:18to get everything across the line to be honest i'm finding it quite stressful
32:22and there is an added complication i've got to go to work in portugal
32:34it couldn't have come at a worse time really but i have been postponing this particular shoot
32:43until after the renovation was finished but because we're so delayed now um i couldn't postpone
32:51it any longer and i'm literally bailing going away to work in the last few days before our housewarming party
33:04so i'm just having to leave it all in john's hands i don't it just couldn't be worse timing really
33:15i don't really know
33:18i don't really know what's going to happen whether everything's going to fall apart when i go away
33:23or whether i'm not as indispensable as i thought i was and i'll come back and it'll all be done
33:39on the costa del sol jasmine and john's dream family home is nearing completion but they have to finish
33:52the living area driveway gates the garden wall lay the new turf and add all the finishing touches but
34:01they have to do all of it without jasmine as she's about to leave for a work trip to portugal
34:09it feels a bit like the shoe is on the other foot
34:13i'm normally abandoning jazz for work and she's got everything on her plate
34:17so not only is there quite a lot to do for the party try and sort out some sort of surprise
34:22entertainment some cakes but we also need to finish the house
34:27before she leaves there's just time to do the final handover with the builders to sort out their
34:35plan for whilst jasmine is away the neighbor's wall is now built but needs to be evened up with extra
34:41concrete then rendered and finished this all needs to happen before the garden turf can be laid
34:48which jasmine has already scheduled oh it needs to be done by wednesday remember remember we spoke about
34:56this it needs to be done by wednesday it can't be done by wednesday i've got the gardener coming to
35:00put the turf down on thursday yeah what's happened then has this changed because i thought it was
35:07going to be done by wednesday i've got like oh god you've got to bring it out and pack it out if it
35:12was a normal brick wall you just kept it would not be all capovened wouldn't it but when you're
35:17trying to correct something else's work yeah exactly yeah bring it out bring it over it's literally about
35:22that much in the bottom so you can't you literally can't put that much cement on it it'll just fall
35:25off well if he doesn't do it on thursday it won't be done in time no no because he's only got thursday
35:32and friday it's pushing it already yeah you know that is exactly how it's going to go yeah it's
35:37definitely down to the wire i mean obviously we want to do it right in the first place if we do it
35:43even if it's finished and i think he'll get surfing has he got a moment to spend though but i think he'll do
35:49it because we'll give anybody that needs a hand out so but i think it will get there it's just
35:55going to be last minute yeah like everything for the last three weeks yeah thanks
36:08we can't start the garden until the wall is plastered
36:13and we've had so many delays already with that wall which have been no fault of anyone but it's
36:20taken a lot longer to get to this point than we expected my mind was going at about a million miles
36:28an hour trying to think of alternative ways to be able to get this all done in time
36:35she'll just have to leave it up to john and the builders as it's time for jasmine to leave too
36:45sorry to leave you with all this you've got even more on your plate now that wall not going to be
36:51finished by the time we thought your time of being away is perfect that's fine
36:59you go away you'll do it it'll be fine
37:06i think i'll sit i think how lucky we are
37:15first world problems oh no i'm sorry hormonal
37:21build a moon away i'm basically stressed up to my eyeballs guilt up to my eyeballs as well
37:36and you know just worried about leaving worried about things not happening when they were supposed to
37:44worrying about leaving john worrying about the kids okay
37:48okay well phone me if you need anything will do if not to see you on the eve of our party i know

38:23the next day despite her departure the work has to continue regardless with one of the missing pieces
38:41of the jigsaw finally arriving hola is that the worktop
38:46the worktop has arrived the kitchen is very ready for a worktop the worktop company have pulled out
38:53all the stops to get it here in time let's get it in not kind of fine at all three days before
39:03some sort of summer party or gathering and we've got loads of deliveries still to come the world top is
39:10arriving tiles for the kitchen are arriving i mean i've sort of locked out it's all slotting in perfectly
39:18bring on next week when it's all over
39:23so we hope it fits
39:36wow and i'll my big beef with the old workshop you couldn't see when it's dirty
39:41you're definitely going to see when this is daddy
39:43it looks good i mean i did entirely leave the worktop decision to jazz i've seen a tiny sample
39:54it's good it looks like a worktop that i'll enjoy wiping obsessively every five minutes
39:58it's getting there now though yeah that's good right that's lovely those guys are really good
40:17you can barely see the seam can you that is a good worktop i mean this one is where even is it
40:21no there isn't one well there is one there it goes through there yeah i mean it's so well done
40:26another sinks in it's good it's getting there this level's nearly done final touches now and then
40:33we'll we'll be there yeah fingers crossed i mean in theory the tiling is not it shouldn't take too long
40:38because it's not not that high really is it two rows high you're going for i was about to ask you the
40:42same question i think we were going to go two rows yeah i mean really it's just the finishes now we need to
40:48finish that little bit of painting so obviously that plaster was wet in a little bit pain to dry
40:54it seems to put the final tiles on the fixtures and the lights really and i think that's it
40:59in here well and the tap but yeah yeah but the um kitchen company are coming to do all that oh perfect
41:08with the worktop installed the fitting company can now connect the water supply
41:12and dominic's team can start fitting the splashback tiles john is also on hand to get the all-important
41:22lesson on how to operate his new gadget
