00:00Hardcore Harlamans.
00:10Now that the glass doors off of the living room have arrived, I'm really excited.
00:18The frame is in the wrong way around.
00:20I love doing things twice.
00:22I just let one thing to be finished.
00:25Ooh!
00:26The wind is in.
00:28You know, I meant that.
00:30They're in.
00:31I think it actually completely transforms that space.
00:39Living in the basement, it's been really hard.
00:42Getting it finally finished and looking amazing is going to be superb.
00:48It's really important that Jas and I try and grab little windows of time together when we can.
00:55My dad would probably flip his lid if he saw this.
00:58He's very much a perfectionist.
01:03Don't turn too early.
01:09It's looking amazing, isn't it?
01:11Good.
01:11Never in my wildest dreams did I ever think that something like this would be a reality.
01:17Down on the cost of Del Sol.
01:33The dust.
01:35Jasmine and John's housewarming party is looming.
01:37Now, just a matter of weeks away, there's still loads to do.
01:46Lots going on all over the house, inside and outside.
01:51It feels like it's kind of exploded.
01:59All of the work is happening at once.
02:03Oops.
02:05Trying to break the new work time.
02:06With Dominic and his team deep into renovation upstairs, the family have been living in the basement, which is giving Jasmine the impetus to prioritise finishing this space.
02:17We're so close to being finished.
02:21So close.
02:22I'm sure we could finish everything that needs to be done down here in no time if it was on the top of the priorities.
02:33But obviously there are so many other things going on.
02:35A lot of the project managing has fallen to me in the end because Dominic is just so busy with everything else and with the build and liaising with all the different trades.
02:50And I do feel like I'm in above my head because I don't know what I'm doing.
02:58I don't know what comes first and what I need to do before I can do that or why.
03:02And so, yeah, that's probably not helping things move forward quickly.
03:11John is busy filming a well-loved British property series and the school holidays have started.
03:17Keen to avoid the kids spending it on a building site, Jasmine has found a local solution.
03:23I found a lovely summer camp for them.
03:26It's about five minutes away and they can go there.
03:30It's all about nature.
03:32They can spend time with other kids and it's from 10 till five, Monday to Friday.
03:37So that gives me a good chunk of time during the day when I can be getting on with all of this stuff and they don't have to be living on a building site all day.
03:44I feel like I'm in the epicenter of this most ridiculous chaos that's going on and it's all pressure from all sides.
04:00And I feel like at any moment it's all going to cave in.
04:03Despite all the stress and strains, Jasmine is getting stuck in, eager to maintain momentum, starting with John's media wall.
04:19So this is the Lime Wash.
04:23I must say I really like the way it looks, that kind of rustic feel.
04:28The only thing is I'm not so sure about the texture of it.
04:33You know, it feels quite rough.
04:35I'm quite a tactile person.
04:36I like things that feel nice to the touch.
04:39I hope I've done it right.
04:42Maybe I need to give it a little sand to make it smoother, but that might just ruin it.
04:46If I go over it too many times then you lose the rustic lime wash effect.
04:52So believe me, I'm not an expert.
04:55My dad would probably flip his lid if he saw this, you know, painting because he's very much a perfectionist and he would not like this.
05:05So you can see all the brush strokes and you can see a little bit of the white paint underneath coming through.
05:11But, you know, that is how it's supposed to look.
05:14I think it looks good.
05:17Now I look at it from a distance, it looks better.
05:20But the idea of this bit was that it would look kind of industrial, a bit like, you know, bare concrete.
05:29And I think that it definitely achieves that effect.
05:33So hopefully John will like it as well.
05:38Elsewhere in the basement...
05:40Oh, sorry, love.
05:43We're all looking for something.
05:44I know.
05:45The large stone effect wall tiles are already up in the bathroom.
05:49So the floor tiles are next for brick and tile laying specialist Matthew.
05:54Is that a two mil?
05:55That's a two mil.
05:57Yeah, it's fine.
05:57Yeah?
05:58I mean, I think so.
05:59Are you happy with that?
06:00Yeah, yeah.
06:01I think it's fine.
06:01Yeah, that's good.
06:03I just want to see how it works for this shower.
06:05Yeah, exactly.
06:06So you...
06:06Yeah.
06:07A crappy cut on this.
06:08Yeah, good idea.
06:09I was hoping that you were going to do that.
06:12Obviously they'll be staggered differently.
06:14Yeah, yeah, yeah.
06:14I just want to see width, width.
06:17Width ways now, I understand.
06:20Once the tiling is done, the suite will be installed and then Jasmine can add her finishing touches.
06:26That's the mirror.
06:27Okay, a mirror.
06:28Yeah, it's one of those heated ones with lights.
06:33Ah, right, so it doesn't seem up.
06:34That's better, isn't it?
06:35Yeah.
06:36It's 500 roughly.
06:39I mean, you're saying...
06:40Your hand basin about there.
06:41Yeah, you're talking there, didn't you?
06:52A little bit, I'd put it a touch higher, because not that high though.
06:55Just half...
06:56There?
06:56Split the difference.
06:58Somewhere about there.
06:59Okay.
06:59Back over in the main basement room, Quinn and Dominic are getting ready to work on one of John's more techie interior design ideas.
07:17When we went to visit this inspirational villa, they had acoustic panelling in their basement and in the gym area as well, and it looked great.
07:27John has ordered nine panels, that's complete with the nine LED lighting strips, cost a grand total of £1,600.
07:37This panelling, we've got to cut it exactly, and then the LED slides in it.
07:45The problem is, John's not here at the moment, is he?
07:48So, his description of what he wants, so we're not quite sure at the moment, but we're doing what we can.
07:55What are you going to do?
07:55One of the squares?
07:56Yeah.
07:57The squares are very...
07:57Watch.
07:58Look at that, Quinn.
07:59What's that?
08:00The second you cut through it, they're all on the move.
08:02Yeah, it's got a staple on the line.
08:04I knew that was going to happen, look.
08:06Oh, yeah, that's fine.
08:06So, that might work, as in, just cut down there.
08:11Have you got a shot, Stanley?
08:12Yeah, I do, actually.
08:13Got it?
08:14Get a hold of it.
08:19All right, yeah, ma'am.
08:22Cutting the panels to shape and size is a delicate process, and with no extra panels for mistakes or breakages, Dominic and Quinn can't afford any mishaps.
08:35Great.
08:35It's like it was made to measure.
08:41Exactly.
08:43Beautiful.
08:44Nice.
08:45Nice.
08:46Yeah, we'll have a chat with John, because they don't go to the ground, they've got to be staggered.
08:52They come to the top, but they don't go to the ground.
08:55What?
08:55The LEDs.
08:56I think that's what...
08:57The LED strips, John said he wants them to be more random and sporadic to be.
09:00Oh, I'm thinking the LEDs, I thought you meant that, because I know they're going to be feathered off at the top.
09:05Yeah, but they don't hit the ground there, so...
09:08Yeah, as long as they're staggered and they look random, I think I'll be fine.
09:12I think sometimes the best way is just not overthinking it and just kind of going wherever it goes, isn't it?
09:16But we are on the case of it.
09:19Let's do it then.
09:20Let's do that.
09:21Yeah.
09:22Let's do that.
09:23They've got to come downwards.
09:24John's plan for staggered LED lighting in the panels involves cutting the two-and-a-half-metre strips of LED lights, but there is only just enough.
09:36There you go.
09:37Well, you don't know if it works for it.
09:39I don't know if it works or not, no.
09:41Each one can only be cut once and they can't be soldered back together, so there is no margin for error.
09:51There you go.
09:52Oh, yeah.
09:53There you go.
09:54It's brilliant, isn't it?
09:54Turn it off for a sec.
09:57These wires are very small.
10:00Really?
10:01They do.
10:02Yeah, amazing.
10:04It's fantastic.
10:05Yeah, it's very good, isn't it?
10:08Just disappears when it goes off.
10:10Yeah, look.
10:11Lovely.
10:12That's really good.
10:13With my eyesight, I can't even see it when it's off.
10:19Although progress is being made, between ferrying the kids around,
10:23doing her own work and managing this complicated renovation to a deadline,
10:27for Jasmine, for Jasmine, the strain is starting to take its toll.
10:31It's too much for one person to cope with.
10:35You know, I used to think, I used to think that I was indestructible, and I used to think I can cope with anything that's thrown at me.
10:51And I don't know what it is.
10:55I don't know if I've just got more on than ever before, or if it's because I'm getting old.
11:00But it's getting, it's getting hard to cope.
11:04Down in Estepona...
11:20Tubos, tubos, or tubas?
11:23Tubos, I think.
11:26Jasmine is managing the build all on her own.
11:29So, we've still got phase two going on of the renovation, and we're deeply into phase three as well.
11:38No hay luces dentro de las aracenas en este lado.
11:43Solo aquí y aquí.
11:44Solo aquí?
11:44Sí, porque son de cristal.
11:47Vale, perfecto.
11:48OK.
11:48And nothing's finished.
11:51I'm trying to chase different people, different products, buying things, finding out things are wrong.
11:57It is a real juggle.
12:00Down in the basement, the doorway between the main room and the gym is being plastered.
12:07Meanwhile, upstairs, a thin layer of screed, a mixture of fine sand and cement, is spread across the kitchen floor.
12:15It will create a level surface to lay the marble tiles that have been picked to match with those already in the living room.
12:22Once dry, Matthew can lay the new marble floor.
12:30They're all different, different thicknesses, sometimes different widths, different lengths.
12:38You've got to be, because it's such a natural material, they're very random.
12:43This marble has been specially selected to easily blend with the flooring that's already in the living room.
12:50Look.
12:53That's how random they are, the tiles.
12:55These are, these are okay laying, I mean, you can get away with a bit with these, because, after, once this is all done, and you fill the joints in with a really high-newton cement slurry, and then, once it's all grinded out, it'll look flat anyway.
13:16So, if you're a little bit up, a little bit down, once it's all, yeah, it'll look all, all natural and, er, naturally level-like.
13:27Whilst the lead tile and Matt carries on laying the kitchen floor, back down in the basement, Dominic and Quinn are carrying on with the installation of the acoustic panelling with its disappearing LED strips.
13:39This is exciting, I suppose the only one thing is that those two finish at the same height.
13:46If we wanted to be perfectly random, we could squidge it somewhere slightly different.
13:53Maybe that one can go to sort of there, if that's possible, is that possible, or is that...?
13:57You've got, if you've got a chance, you could do it now, Quinn, because once the glue gets...
14:03Put, Quinn, pull it by the, yeah, by the cable, not by the...
14:09That's so gentle.
14:14That's got a bit of depth on it now.
14:16Yeah, that looks a bit better.
14:18Let me stand back and look at it.
14:21Looks good.
14:22Let me take a quick little picture for John.
14:24Yeah, to do it again, Dad.
14:25Sorry, Dominic, just one quick picture for John.
14:28He's the only one that counts.
14:29Exactly.
14:31We've already installed the two, as you can see on the wall there, and the LEDs are working.
14:37But now we've got the difficult bit, we've got to put them on the ceiling.
14:41So there's two more hole panels to go up, and then the difficult two that need cutting and making into a star sort of fingered shape at the end.
14:52So, yeah, time-consuming.
14:58It's not super difficult, but at over 200 euros a panel, you've got to be very careful what you do.
15:04While John's panelling project progresses, it's time for Jasmine to put her own mark on the basement level by kitting out the gym.
15:15So she's heading along the coast to a fitness equipment warehouse to scope out the options.
15:20Keeping fit has always been something that's part of my life and that's really important.
15:27And I spent 10 years working in health and fitness as an instructor, aerobics teacher, personal trainer, before I worked in television.
15:38So having a home gym is something I've never had the luxury of being able to do before, because I've never had that sort of space available.
15:47I'm looking for some machines and pieces for a small gym in my house.
15:56Very good.
15:57We have a motto that is Try Before You Buy.
16:01I'm thinking, I don't know, two or three cardio machines that we can use and some weights, maybe a few other accessories like bands or a ball or something like that.
16:14Also, these are the dumbbells, the hexagonal dumbbells, which are the ones that we sell the most most.
16:19Be careful, it's heavy.
16:22It's too much for me.
16:26I really want a punch bag as well.
16:28I used to love boxing, so that's one thing I'd quite like to do again.
16:33It's good for taking out all my anger.
16:35My husband, for five months, broke his leg.
16:42Yes.
16:43He was playing padel.
16:44Oh.
16:45So, could we recommend him the elliptical?
16:51Nice.
16:52Nice and smooth.
16:54You also have a ventilator.
16:56Ah, a ventilator.
16:57In the machines it's very important.
16:58Can I do?
17:00Can I do?
17:01To refresh.
17:02Better.
17:03Can I do?
17:04Can I do?
17:06Can I do?
17:08Can I do?
17:09Yes, an air bike.
17:10Air bike.
17:11Can I do a complete training?
17:14This is the rowing machine, the remote.
17:18La grabas así, vale.
17:20Aquí tienes la resistencia.
17:24Y la máquina empieza sola.
17:27It was nice.
17:28I'm actually quite happy here.
17:29I could stay on here for a while.
17:31At this level, I think it's the most easy.
17:34We can put more resistance.
17:36No, no, it's fine.
17:38It's fine.
17:40The shoulders, the arms, the back.
17:44You have to have the back active.
17:47Yes, at the end, I think the bike, air bike.
17:52The air bike.
17:54I like it.
17:56The rim.
17:56The rowing machine.
17:58And an elliptical.
17:59And an elliptical.
18:00Perfect.
18:01Having a home gym is, like, beyond luxury.
18:09I came from a low-income family.
18:12You know, it's so aspirational.
18:14And it's always kind of been in the back of my mind
18:16that one day, maybe,
18:18but I never really thought it would become a reality.
18:21So I think, yeah, it's an absolute luxury
18:23and I'm very, very lucky to have it.
18:27With the equipment sourced,
18:29Jasmine can get out of her gym gear
18:31to check on the progress of another luxury item,
18:34the marble flooring.
18:36Mmm.
18:40Oh, wow.
18:42Amazing how quickly this floor goes down.
18:46I think it's going to match quite nicely
18:47with the original marble once it's all polished up.
18:51I just hope that we can get it finished.
18:53Well, we have to get it finished
18:54because otherwise the kitchen won't be able to be fitted.
18:58Ah.
19:01It's nice to see the progress.
19:06Oh!
19:06The floor is clean.
19:10The dust.
19:11Ah, the plaster.
19:15Finally, the plaster's done there.
19:18Living in the basement is fine,
19:21but if only it had been completed before we moved down there,
19:26it would be so much easier and so much more relaxing.
19:29It's fine.
19:30We've got everything we need,
19:31but basically it feels a bit like camping.
19:35This temporary living means that mealtimes are often improvised.
19:40How many pickles do you need for all of us?
19:43Ten.
19:44Yeah.
19:45Here.
19:46Ten?
19:46Only ten?
19:47Twenty.
19:48Get as many as you need.
19:50I'll give you avocado, you'll do the pickles.
19:51We have been coping OK with making meals down in the basement.
19:59We have wraps quite often.
20:02Mmm.
20:04This is my favourite non-cooking dinner.
20:09Making a wrap is quite nice
20:10because the kids can just choose their own toppings
20:13and they can put it in themselves
20:14and everyone can get involved.
20:16So it's just a really easy meal.
20:19Can you wrap mine?
20:20I'll show you how to do it.
20:23Ready?
20:25Top and bottom.
20:27So it's good.
20:28It's fine.
20:29You know, I won't be doing any sort of cordon bleu
20:33or fancy cooking down there in the basement.
20:38So what do you two think of this little arrangement living down here?
20:43It's a bit boring.
20:44It's basically the same as being upstairs,
20:48but one big room.
20:49I'm more working.
20:53How about you, Joy?
20:55It's actually really annoying the fact that we have
20:57A, no working bathrooms down here
21:00and B, no ovens,
21:03so we can't have, like,
21:05any nice cooked dinners or anything.
21:08I think there's nowhere to charge our computers still.
21:10Oh, I'm glad to see you two have got your priorities right now.
21:19But at least we've got somewhere to be.
21:23I say that, but we haven't really,
21:24because it's still full of dust and full of building work
21:27and builders there all the time,
21:28and it's still not finished.
21:30But we can make...
21:34We're making do.
21:35It's fine.
21:35On the Costa del Sol,
21:51Jasmine and the build team are wrapping up the renovation of the basement.
21:54John's media wall is in the final throes.
22:04It's been lime-washed by Jasmine,
22:06and the acoustic panelling has started going into the alcoves.
22:10The next step is to install a key element,
22:13the television.
22:14Are you winning there?
22:16Oh, yeah.
22:18I'm winning the wall.
22:19So, is the plan to just do the panelling,
22:23leave a blank square in the middle behind the TV?
22:25Yeah.
22:27That's good.
22:28And the same distance between each side.
22:30Oh, you can just see it can move sideways.
22:32You can move everywhere.
22:34So, it can move laterally.
22:35Oh, yeah, I see, I see, I see.
22:36All right, that's a good bracket, isn't it?
22:40With the TV in place,
22:42time to finish off the acoustic panelling.
22:44It's been a tricky task for Dominic and Quinn.
22:48There it is.
22:50You want to come this in, Quinn?
22:53The last couple of lengths are being glued and screwed.
22:57I haven't even made my mind up where it's going yet.
23:05This is white when I come to work.
23:10Beautiful.
23:12Plug that in and check it.
23:14In case it don't work out the box.
23:18Cool.
23:21Before the final LED strips are slotted into place.
23:31Oh, my arms.
23:32There you go.
23:33I really like the look of them.
23:35I can't say I would have picked them out to have.
23:39But now I see them up, they do look very effective.
23:44John made a good choice.
23:45The bathroom, gym and main basement room are getting super close to completion.
23:56Well, we'll get that screen, put it in, quick cutting round the top of here, fit that, this bathroom is done, they're done.
24:05And a rather large delivery arriving out front is about to have a big impact on one of those spaces.
24:12I think it's going to touch the floor.
24:13It's going to be too tall.
24:14It's going to be too tall.
24:16Is it going to fit?
24:17No!
24:18It's...
24:19It's...
24:20It's...
24:21It's...
24:22It's...
24:23It's...
24:24It's...
24:25It's going to be too tall.
24:26Yes.
24:27It's going to be too tall.
24:28Yes.
24:29Is it going to fit?
24:31No.
24:32It's...
24:33It's...
24:34It's...
24:35It's...
24:36It's...
24:37It's too big.
24:38It's not good.
24:39It's touching the floor.
24:40Oh, dear.
24:41Is it bigger?
24:42Yes.
24:43Yes.
24:44Yes.
24:45Yes.
24:46Yes.
24:47Yes.
24:48I have to swap it.
24:49Yes.
24:50Yes.
24:51Yes, because it's too big.
24:56Oh, shame.
24:58As the bulky gym kit makes its way into the basement
25:02through the double doors at the back,
25:04rubber flooring is laid over the original terracotta floor tiles
25:08in preparation.
25:10Very, very exciting delivery today.
25:14We've had all the gym equipment arrive,
25:17which is just... it's kind of blowing my mind.
25:23We're getting a punch bag as well,
25:25which I think will be one of the things I use the most
25:28when I get annoyed or frustrated.
25:32And the next time we'll see you...
25:35You're going to be stronger.
25:37Well, you're already strong.
25:40No, no.
25:42But later.
25:44Thank you very much.
25:47Looking at that gym, I'm thinking,
25:48now I've got no excuse.
25:50I really do have to use it.
25:59The next morning, John is back
26:01and Jasmine can't wait to show him the progress.
26:06Initially, it didn't really feel like a space
26:10that you'd ever want to go into.
26:12What do you think, Al?
26:14Al?
26:16Um...
26:17Alvi, I know what you're thinking.
26:18This screams Spanish dream lifestyle.
26:21Yeah, definitely.
26:23For one, it was open to the elements.
26:25Two, it was dirty.
26:27It was cluttered.
26:29It was very just uninviting.
26:33This isn't even finished.
26:34I mean, the garage door is basically a shower curtain.
26:40This keeps the thieves at bay.
26:43I think when we first saw it, I looked at it and I thought,
26:46this is pretty grim, but I can see its potential.
26:50Oh, it's looking amazing, isn't it?
26:54No, it's good.
27:02I'm in genuinely a completely different room.
27:05Now, it's just an amazing space.
27:11It's somewhere that you would want to hang out and be there
27:15and it's bright, it feels modern.
27:17It's just a really lovely addition to the house.
27:21Well done.
27:24Aw.
27:25Don't cry.
27:27I'd say, like...
27:28Are you crying because now you're going to have to get fit?
27:34Damn it.
27:36I had very little involvement with the sort of vision
27:39and the formation of the gym.
27:41So when I saw it with Jazz for the first time,
27:43it was a real, I think for Jazz and for me,
27:46it was a real pinch me moment of, you know,
27:48I own a house that now has a fully functioning gym
27:51and, you know, it's not something we ever thought we'd achieve.
27:56Whether I use it or not may remain to be seen.
28:01It feels like a massive extravagance to have it,
28:05but it's just amazing.
28:11Coming from a very working class family
28:12in a really underprivileged area of London,
28:17you know, never in my wildest dreams
28:20did I ever think that something like this
28:22would be a reality in...
28:25I meant to say that, it'd make you cry.
28:32Well, all the houses I've looked at over the years,
28:34and they're so aspirational and they're like,
28:37oh, imagine having something like that
28:39and then actually having something like that.
28:41It's kind of overwhelming.
28:44Yeah, I don't...
28:45Just have to make sure we use it.
28:47Go on then.
28:48Yeah?
28:49No time like the present.
28:50Come on then.
28:51I might wet myself out.
28:54Ready?
28:56Breathe out.
28:57Breathe in as you come down.
28:58That is weird.
28:59Just to there, no up.
29:00yeah
29:04without
29:06in as you come down
29:14Oh
29:17We now on the exertion just keep moving
29:21I'm gonna space here it's key after me the bench other way
29:30I don't have my own strength.
29:33Oh.
29:34Sorry.
29:35With my left foot.
29:36Lucky we've had two children.
29:42While a lot of the focus has been on the gym and main entertainment space,
29:46work has been ticking along in the basement bathroom that's now also complete.
29:52The bathroom in the garage when we first came was not particularly nice.
29:58Oh, careful, Albie, mind you don't trip.
30:01A very luxurious toilet.
30:04What did you think of the window?
30:06There is none.
30:08There is one.
30:08There's just a hole in the wall.
30:10There was no door on it, for one thing.
30:12There was a toilet and there was a sink and a broken tap.
30:17You know, the plumbing was there.
30:19That's about the only thing that made it an actual bathroom.
30:23This has come together really well in the end, hasn't it?
30:27Yeah.
30:35Mind-blowing to think what this was and what it is now.
30:37I mean, and it was quite good use of the leftover tiles as well.
30:45A really good use.
30:45From the upstairs bathroom and from the basement floor.
30:48Look at her making herself at home, the cat.
30:54Literally asleep on the towels.
30:55She's found her new favourite place in the house.
30:57You know, the whole process of this renovation has been quite slow going and it's been quite hard.
31:05You know, getting the progress that we want, so having an area that is now done, it's finished, we can tick it off the list, it feels really good.
31:16To celebrate the finished room, Jasmine has organised a special day trip to Malaga.
31:24It's a chance for the couple to reconnect after the stresses and strains of being apart.
31:30It's really important that Jasmine and I try and grab little windows of time together when we can,
31:35because when I'm back from work, there's so much going on with the house and there's so much going on with the kids.
31:42It's important that we try and spend some time together.
31:46Every time we come to Malaga, we pass by the fortress and we've actually never been inside.
31:53So, we're having a guided tour today, looking around with a lovely chap called Paco.
31:58He's going to tell us about the history and show us all the best spots.
32:13Towering above Malaga's old town, the Alcazaba fortress is a Moorish marvel dating back to the 11th century.
32:20Built in a period of turmoil towards the end of the powerful ruling by the Caliphate of Cordoba,
32:27a medieval Islamic state who ruled over much of Spain,
32:32the Alcazaba has an interesting story to tell.
32:36They needed to build the fortress quite quickly when the Caliphate of Cordoba was broken.
32:41So, they used it without money.
32:43So, they used different poor material that rebelled sea stones and bricks.
32:48Quickly and cheaply.
32:49That's exactly what we're looking for, isn't it, for our house?
32:52Have you got their number?
32:54The Moors who came to Spain from North Africa ruled for some 800 years between the 8th and 15th century,
33:02with Malaga being the main arrival point for soldiers and an important military stronghold.
33:08All these kind of towers have small corners because usually one attack was on a horse.
33:14So, with all these doors, the horse comes a bit slowly.
33:21Yes.
33:21A bit slowly.
33:22And you have soldiers in all the wars with different arms defending the fortresses.
33:28It was easy.
33:28So, it's not like if you were attacking on horseback, you haven't got a nice straight run to gallop through.
33:35It was very difficult.
33:37So, the corner was to slow you down so everyone could then shot at you.
33:40I mean, it's clever, really, isn't it?
33:43We look at it as just really unusual, beautiful, interesting architecture, but it all has a purpose behind it.
33:51The Alcazaba wasn't just a stronghold.
33:53It was a whole world of its own.
33:56With elegant courtyards, tranquil gardens, living quarters and even baths,
34:02the Alcazaba was as much a palace as it was a fortress, a little fortified town perched above the sea.
34:10And now you can see this garden with a typical fountain because we have a lot of water.
34:16The water is one element very important during the Muslim period.
34:19We need to use the water to purify before pray inside the mosque, to have life to the plants, the trees, the gardens.
34:27And you see, here we can see, for example, this jasmine is not the local jasmine.
34:32It's not the local one?
34:33No.
34:33The local jasmine is coming from Arabia, from the desert.
34:39But this is a Chinese jasmine.
34:41Chinese jasmine.
34:41It's different because the flowers are smaller, smell different, and they produce a lot.
34:48And I need to tell you one secret.
34:51The jasmine is a nice repellent from the mosquitoes.
34:55I had no idea.
34:57That jasmine was a mosquito repellent, a natural mosquito repellent.
35:03I am going to be planting jasmine everywhere.
35:13The views.
35:14Wow.
35:14Wow.
35:16That is spectacular, isn't it?
35:18You can see all the panorama that they had.
35:22The mountains here.
35:23That is an amazing view.
35:24Yeah, it's very nice.
35:25Thank you so much.
35:27What a lovely, amazing visit.
35:30Thank you for your insight.
35:31You're welcome.
35:32The views were spectacular.
35:37I mean, you cannot beat that view of Malaga City.
35:42The gardens were so stunning, surrounded by jasmine and all the lovely indigenous plants.
35:49And I really like the arches, because actually, for some reason, under there, you kind of feel the place has got a soul.
35:59This really helps you to explore the history, and I think that we'll definitely be back.
36:05The belated end of phase two is in sight.
36:21But what was a garage space and bathroom has been upgraded into a home gym, a fully renovated bathroom, and is soon to be a multi-use entertainment zone.
36:34Dominic and his team are preparing the basement for the delivery of the centre point of the room.
36:39And delivering the goods is Jasmine and John's trusted friend, Carlos.
36:49Today I came to bring the hockey machine to Jasmine and John, that we went to Almería for her.
36:58Very good.
37:00We'll take it, wait, take it away from there, and we'll take it away and take it away from here.
37:04We've given us a 600 kilometers of a mile, and we're here, we're happy to bring the machine to enjoy it.
37:14Not much, no, I said much, no, I said much about it, but I could pass it.
37:17Watch the top, Les, I said.
37:19Go on, mate.
37:20Watch the step.
37:23With the air hockey table weighing over 200 kilograms, it's taking a lot of manpower to shift it.
37:30Yeah, go on, I got it, mate.
37:32No, I ain't.
37:35Go on, mate.
37:37Don't turn too early.
37:38As well as managing the weight, the height could be an issue.
37:44Go on, crack on, boys.
37:46Get your weight down, let's end.
37:48Get on, let's end.
37:48Get on, let's end, let's end, let's end.
37:49Get on, let's end, let's end, let's end.
37:50It's fine, let's end, let's end.
37:52It's fine, let's end, let's end.
37:54There it is.
37:59Yeah.
38:00Yeah.
38:01Yeah.
38:02Beautiful.
38:03Beautiful.
38:04Yeah.
38:05Okay.
38:06With the table in place,
38:08there's only one thing left to do.
38:10Dominic.
38:11How's it going?
38:12For you.
38:13And we've tried the machine, we've done a duel in England against Spain.
38:19It works.
38:20Yeah.
38:21It works.
38:22Yeah.
38:23Yeah.
38:24Yeah.
38:25Yeah.
38:26Yeah.
38:27Yeah.
38:28Yeah.
38:29Yeah.
38:30Yeah.
38:31Yeah.
38:32Yeah.
38:33Yeah.
38:34Yeah.
38:35Yeah.
38:36Yeah.
38:37Yeah.
38:38Yeah.
38:39Yeah.
38:40Yeah.
38:41Yeah.
38:42I've got a goal.
38:43I've got a goal, actually.
38:44Yeah.
38:45I've got a goal, actually.
38:47I've got a goal.
38:48I haven't lost it, just have a goal, actually.
38:52I've lost it myself.
38:53I've scored it myself.
38:54all that remains is for jasmine to add the finishing touches to the room
39:06the basement is such an amazing space
39:12it had so much untapped potential and now i just think i i've i don't i can't think of a way we
39:22to improve it i think it's fantastic having been living in the basement we've kind of seen it slowly
39:30slowly coming to fruition and so those last finishing touches it's exciting for me the
39:39basement will eventually be the best room in the house looks so different now doesn't it i mean so
39:51different
39:57oh my god
40:03again you sort of think about what this room was when we first looked around the house
40:08yeah i mean it's definitely become way more
40:15than we had planned right well it's almost like you don't need the rest of the house now
40:21the kids would happily live down here
40:27with the goal for the basement to be a really fun space some way the kids could hang out with friends
40:34or we could have little parties and i think i think jazz has nailed it i think it's going to be a really fun space
40:40i was always a bit worried how you would create like a cozy feeling in such a huge open space
40:47space but i feel like with the different zones i feel like it's good
40:53but we've achieved it but we've achieved it we just need the disco zone finishing and then everything's done
40:58i had to assume just wondering whether
40:59whether you could literally put like a disco floor
41:02you know the coloured tiles
41:04light up floor
41:06you could do your john travolta moves
41:08that'd be good
41:09the acoustic paneling was john's baby
41:15you know i'd never really seen it before
41:17and i think ultimately
41:20it looks really good
41:23it ties in the space
41:25i really love the acoustic paneling
41:28i think it was a bit of a faff and it has cost us more than i had envisaged
41:32but it does it does help a little bit with the acoustics
41:36but what it really helps with is having some low profile lighting in that end of the room
41:41which is the dark end of the room
41:42i haven't been able to figure out how to turn them on and off yet
41:47please can you teach me
41:49big comfortable sofa
41:54plenty of room for loads and loads of people if you've got loads of friends over
41:58i can just see that becoming a go-to place for us
42:05especially the kids
42:06what's nice is how
42:08you know even though all the different zones have got their own thing
42:11the panelling also connects the kitchen area
42:14i think that's quite a nice touch
42:18that was a good idea
42:19the bar is a bar not a kitchen
42:21bar bar yeah
42:22well only because we've been using it as a kitchen
42:24while we've been living down here
42:25it's the perfect little spot for preparing drinks and snacks
42:31it's a really fun space and i know john always likes to have a countertop
42:37between himself and the people the guests so that he can do his thing and make them drinks and make them tapas
42:45i think the kitchen bar and the basement as a whole was always designed to kind of encourage this kind of al fresco living
42:52so now we've got this kind of kitchen bar that can service barbecues
42:56and help us live a bit more of an outdoor lifestyle which which is one of the reasons we came here
43:01now we've just got to try and keep it tidy like this
43:04i thought you were going to say
43:06i thought you were going to say now let's go and find some friends
43:08well we've got lots of visitors coming soon haven't we so hopefully everything will be nice and ready
43:17for our visitors now even if upstairs isn't finished
43:21i think the basement is
43:29the big wow factor for the whole house
43:33it was always john's kind of thing
43:37and he wanted people to walk downstairs and go
43:41oh my gosh
43:43we did not know that this was all under here
43:46that's the sort of impact i think
43:49we wanted it to have and i'm pretty sure it's going to live up to our expectations
43:54it's worked out really well
43:57it's good
43:57cheers
43:58what we've achieved so far
44:02it's looking beautiful and i feel really proud actually that we've made it this far
44:09and i can start to see an end in sight
44:12we've only got a week until the kitchen is arriving so all of this needs to be done
44:29walls and ceilings are really important actually underrated sometimes
44:35oh they're bringing it out
44:37i'm getting nervous now
44:40just don't worry about it
44:42i think it's a crazy idea
44:44where's the end
44:46whose idea was it about 100 feet of lights
44:49it's a disaster
44:50with some guests coming in a few weeks
44:53it's going to be really nice to have the sun terrace finished
44:55finally
44:56finally
44:57finally
44:58see ya
44:59we'll see you guys
45:05go
45:18go
45:20go
