00:00Last time on MasterChef,
00:03it was a mystery box challenge of epic proportions.
00:06There's balls, and there's a brain,
00:09and there's this massive tongue.
00:11And Ryan came out on top.
00:12It's a great dish.
00:14Putting him in control of the competition.
00:16What kind of a gives a live crab to the blind chick?
00:20It pierced me.
00:21But when his strategy backfired...
00:23You cook like an angel.
00:26Helene was eliminated.
00:27Your time in MasterChef is done.
00:30Tonight, the remaining home cooks get a 3 a.m. wake-up call.
00:35Oh, my God.
00:37And do battle in one of the busiest kitchens in the country.
00:40Nice.
00:41Come on, let's go.
00:42As the competition heats up...
00:45No cheating.
00:46...team members turn on each other.
00:48Shut your mouth, dude.
00:49No, you shut your mouth.
00:50Over easy in your face right here.
00:52What else do you need?
00:53Tomato!
00:54A disaster.
00:54And another MasterChef hopeful
00:56sees their culinary dreams end in tears.
01:00It's the middle of the night,
01:05and the remaining 14 home cooks are sound asleep at a Los Angeles hotel.
01:11But the MasterChef judges are about to change all that.
01:20Good morning.
01:21Oh, my God.
01:22You awake?
01:23Yeah.
01:24I hear someone banging on my door.
01:26It's 3.30 a.m., and I'm just wondering what the heck is going on.
01:29Today, our home cooks are about to get a taste of the life of a professional breakfast chef.
01:35That means a very early start.
01:37Move your house, big boy.
01:38We're 10 minutes downstairs.
01:39Okay, I'll be ready in 10 minutes.
01:40We're going to go.
01:41Get up, get up, get up, get up.
01:42We're going to go.
01:42I look at the time, it's like 3 in the morning, and I'm like, someone's going to die for this.
01:47Someone's going to die.
01:49While hundreds of other hotel guests remain asleep, the MasterChef contestants have been told to head down to the hotel's kitchen for their latest team challenge.
01:59So, here you are in a professional kitchen, a moment you've all been dreaming of, but you probably didn't expect it in the middle of the night.
02:07Your big challenge this morning is working the early rush, cooking all of the breakfast room service orders at this huge Radisson Hotel.
02:19What?
02:21Like, none of us have even combed our hair, let alone prepared to go start cooking for, like, hundreds of hotel guests.
02:27It's just mind-blowing.
02:29Listen up, the breakfast rush is the hardest service of the day.
02:34People are hungry, and they're in a hurry.
02:36I am not what you call a morning person, and breakfast is the last thing I want to pick right now.
02:43The dishes that the hotel guests will be ordering this morning are a delicious oatmeal, fresh fruit salad, handmade pancakes, egg white omelet, egg benedict, and, of course, the all-American classic breakfast.
02:57Two eggs, any style. Simple, straightforward.
03:00I cook breakfast all the time.
03:02Actually, it's one of my favorite meals.
03:03I cook for my daughter every morning before school, so I know how to poach my eggs.
03:06I know how to scramble.
03:07I'm feeling pretty good about whoever picks me for their team.
03:09Christine and Josh, you had the best dishes in the previous challenge.
03:13Both of you are team captains.
03:16Come over, please.
03:17Even though I'm vision impaired, I've gotten to know everyone's cooking styles well enough to know who I want on my team.
03:24Christine, you had the winning dish.
03:25You're going to pick first.
03:26This person understands the importance of organization, and because this person works in a restaurant already, my first pick is Felix.
03:35Felix.
03:36Wow.
03:36Good.
03:37I think Felix is a strong team worker, but she also has initiative, and I think that's important to have on a team.
03:45Okay, Josh.
03:46Becky.
03:47Good.
03:48I love breakfast.
03:49I used to work in a little breakfast diner, so I'm kind of familiar with a lot of the protocol.
03:53It's not about being fancy.
03:55It's about being efficient.
03:56My next pick is Scott.
03:57Scott.
03:58Wow.
03:59Frankie.
03:59Frankie.
04:00Good.
04:01My next pick is Tanya.
04:02Tanya.
04:04How nice.
04:04Anna.
04:05Anna.
04:07I need more manpower, so my pick is Mike.
04:11Mike.
04:11Wow.
04:13Monty.
04:14Monty.
04:14Good choice.
04:17Christine, next up.
04:19I would love to have Stacey on my team.
04:22Yeah.
04:22I did not expect to see you three there, let me tell you.
04:28I'm pretty pissed off.
04:30How am I put in the same category as Tanya or Ryan?
04:34Do people honestly really look at me and think that I'm a weak cook?
04:37Because if they do, then they got something else coming.
04:40This next person I choose has a really good palate and mind for food.
04:47David Martinez.
04:51Being one of the last two to be picked really shows their judgment skills.
04:56They can clearly not tell talent when it's right in front of their face.
05:00Christine.
05:04I don't want either one of them on my team, so it's pretty much choosing the lesser of two evils.
05:10My last pick is Ryan.
05:12Wow.
05:13Wow.
05:16Tali, come over and join the blue team.
05:19I'm standing there in disbelief.
05:20I can't believe I am the bottom pick right now.
05:23I don't deserve to be last.
05:25I should be first.
05:26Christine, because you had the best dish in the last challenge, we're giving you another
05:32advantage in this challenge.
05:34Big one.
05:35Right now, you have the power to switch out one member of your team with one member of
05:42Josh's team.
05:45I'll remove Ryan.
05:47Ryan.
05:48This is garbage that I'm getting traded like this.
05:51I am not looking forward to it at all.
05:53And who do you want to take?
05:55I'm taking Becky.
05:57Wow.
05:58Becky was Josh's first pick, so immediately I know that it's going to be a thorn in his
06:03side and it'll hit him hard.
06:04And I know that I'm going to build an even stronger team.
06:07Happy to be here.
06:08Happy to be here.
06:09Both teams have got 19 minutes to prep and then 19 minutes to serve.
06:14Each team needs one expediter.
06:17He or she will be overseeing every cart that leaves, making sure that it leaves within
06:22its window of time.
06:23It is a hugely, hugely important job.
06:27Christine, who do you want as your expediter?
06:32Felix.
06:33Felix.
06:34Christine picked me as the expediter for her team.
06:37I'm a food runner, so I feel completely confident doing that.
06:40And Josh, what about you?
06:41I'm going to choose Monty on this one.
06:47I'm pretty confident that Monty will be able to perform as the expediter for our team because
06:52of her organization skills and the attention that she puts into her plates and every other
06:57challenge that we have.
06:59You'll begin serving breakfast at 7 a.m.
07:03Excited?
07:03Yes, chef.
07:04Your 19 minutes prep time starts now.
07:08Off you go.
07:08In this challenge, the hotel guests have pre-ordered their breakfast and specified at livery
07:14time.
07:15Each team has 130 orders.
07:18Satisfied customers will hang a tag of the team's color on their door.
07:22The team with the least number of tags will face a pressure test.
07:25I want you two cutting the fruit for the fruit salad.
07:27I want you to get on the oatmeal.
07:29Frankie, I want you on the pancakes.
07:31Josh just says, okay, you're doing this, you're doing that.
07:34Just assigns jobs, more of a dictatorship kind of thing.
07:38In my opinion, it's smart to ask everybody, what is it that you like to make so that people
07:42can have passion in what they're doing?
07:44Unlike the blue team, the red team is working out stations democratically.
07:49I'm going to probably do prepping and then egg beating.
07:51Yeah.
07:51I'm good with pancakes and proteins.
07:53I can do bacon on the flat tops.
07:55So we huddle up and immediately assess strengths and weaknesses.
07:58Good start.
07:58I definitely think we're going to win it.
08:03Big challenge.
08:04I mean, first time in a real kitchen, they look like proper chefs.
08:07Yeah, they're in the right outfits.
08:08They've just got to cook like them.
08:09Exactly.
08:09This is all about organization, right?
08:11Everything comes together with the prep here.
08:13My bulletin board, it's got every item that we're cooking.
08:17So that way, no one has any questions as to what they have to cook.
08:23I laid out my board in a way where I could read it because I know that I'm going to be
08:27the one reading it anyways.
08:29And I started prepping to help my team.
08:33Gordon is worried that the red team haven't made nearly enough sauce for their eggs benedict
08:38orders.
08:39You've got enough portions for hollandaise for 10, and you've got 25 in order.
08:43And there's only 35 minutes to go before we start serving.
08:47Chef, I'm confident I can make another dish.
08:48No, hollandaise is not the kind of batch you can make when you start.
08:51It's got to be made beforehand.
08:52So if I was you, I'd just step up a gear a little bit.
08:5525 minutes left, blue team.
08:5725 minutes on the clock before our orders need to start going up.
09:01The bacon's scorched.
09:02You know what I mean?
09:03The spinach isn't cooked all the way through.
09:04Just make sure you're not going into service and then finding out, I can't use that.
09:08Monty's going to be expediting, but she's going to be expediting a bunch of plates of crap
09:12if you can't get your guys organized.
09:14No more cutting on this table.
09:16Figure out where else you're going to cut.
09:17I have to expedite on this table.
09:21Somebody's getting testy over there.
09:23While expediter Monty is being very vocal on the blue team, over on the red team, Captain
09:29Christine is becoming increasingly concerned by Felix's silence.
09:34Felix, is there anything you need?
09:35I feel like I'm having trouble communicating with Felix, who's my expediter.
09:42I'm not getting any feedback, so it's frustrating.
09:4510, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, 7 o'clock.
09:57Here we go.
09:58It's 7 a.m., and the 90-minute breakfast room service begins.
10:03Monty, what do you need next?
10:04Hold on, dude.
10:05Talk to me.
10:06Look at the board.
10:08It's right there.
10:09As soon as we started cooking, people stopped looking at the bulletin board and started asking
10:15me, how many eggs do I need to cook?
10:18I don't know.
10:19Why don't you look at the board?
10:21I have 150 tickets in front of me, and I have to figure out how to put it all together.
10:26Do we have the hollandaise?
10:27Got it.
10:28Do we have the muffins and the scrambled eggs?
10:30While Monty struggles to keep the blue team on track, the red team is having a total communication
10:36breakdown.
10:37Felix, you're the only one that can exercise.
10:38We need to get these plates out.
10:40We have a server here waiting for the food.
10:42The pressure in this kitchen is insane.
10:44It's loud.
10:45It's hot.
10:45Knives!
10:46Knives everywhere.
10:47I mean, eggs flying, potatoes flying, you know.
10:50It's insane.
10:51I got a scrambled egg.
10:52I need a plate.
10:53You guys get plates.
10:54I don't know what's going on.
10:56People are just shouting all around me.
10:57Help, Neely.
10:58We need to get stuff out.
10:59It's chaos right now.
11:02Three more olives.
11:03We still need scrambled eggs.
11:05We need an over-easy.
11:06Who's got the over-easy?
11:08It's the remaining 14 home cooks first time in a professional kitchen.
11:14Each team must cook 130 breakfast room service orders at a busy Los Angeles hotel.
11:20Well done, Monty.
11:21Keep it going, huh?
11:22All right.
11:22Really good job.
11:23Go, go, go.
11:24Thank you, sir.
11:24The blue team's first orders are quickly moving up to hotel guests.
11:28But over on the red team, visually impaired Captain Christine is frustrated at her team's
11:34progress so far.
11:36Felix, get the food on the plate.
11:39Come in, come in.
11:41Red team?
11:42Listen to me.
11:44The blue team are sending way more rooms than you guys.
11:47You've got to lift it up.
11:49Come on.
11:50Please tell people what to do, what they need to get on there, okay?
11:53All right.
11:53I'm trying my best.
11:54I didn't hear much from Felix, which is key.
11:57She's the only one that can look at the tickets and know what needs to go on which plate.
12:01Hey, what do we need?
12:02Felix, communicate with them.
12:04She's not pulling help where she needs it, and she's trying to do everything herself.
12:07All right, Felix.
12:08Felix.
12:08Yes.
12:09Felix.
12:10An expediter needs to talk.
12:11And for the last five minutes, you've just shut down, and there's no communication going
12:15on.
12:16You have got to talk to your team.
12:18I'm in way over my head.
12:20When you have, you know, five people yelling at you all at the same time, you really can't
12:24think.
12:25If we lose today, it's going to be my head on the breakfast platter.
12:30On the blue team, there are no communication issues for Puerto Rican-born Monty, who's yelling
12:35out orders in both English and Spanish.
12:39Go, go, go.
12:39Open a mesa.
12:40Open a mesa.
12:41There's a big difference between the red team and the blue team.
12:43The blue team, you know, even though it looks a little bit more frantic and sort of chaotic
12:47in there, Monty's actually doing a good job.
12:49More tables, please!
12:50Red team got backed up.
12:52All of a sudden, Felix turned into a control freak and wasn't delegating.
12:55She's running around like a headless chicken.
12:57The expediter, rule number one, is to communicate.
13:00The minute you stop communicating, you're in trouble.
13:03Open a mesa!
13:05Open a mesa!
13:05The blue team has been pumping out orders for more than 45 minutes, so Joe heads upstairs
13:12to see if the hotel guests are satisfied.
13:16Good morning, room service.
13:17Hello, we have your breakfast.
13:19Wonderful.
13:19May I come in?
13:20Absolutely.
13:21You have the oatmeal and the Eggs Benedict from the blue team.
13:25Okay.
13:25Great, enjoy it.
13:26The blue team's food was very good.
13:28I had the Eggs Benedict, and it was very flavorful.
13:31I've ordered the pancakes, and I like the consistency of the blue team's, and they're
13:36like Grandma used to make.
13:38Happy customers mean votes for the blue team.
13:42While the blue team gets good reviews upstairs, downstairs, the red team continues to struggle.
13:48We're going to run out of hollandaise.
13:50As Gordon predicted, the red team has run out of hollandaise, and Felix is cutting corners.
13:57Felix?
13:57Yes?
13:58Felix?
13:59That's not good enough.
13:59Eggs Benedict gets nappรฉed, and the egg gets covered with hollandaise.
14:04Okay.
14:05This is not a dessert with chocolate sauce.
14:06Start again, please.
14:08I hear Felix getting chewed out for putting only a drizzle of hollandaise sauce onto the
14:13Eggs Benedict.
14:14Not being able to see and being team captain, it's very difficult.
14:18I need my team members to step up and just take ownership of what they're doing.
14:21We need more hollandaise.
14:23Make sure we don't run out.
14:24Tanya, are you on the hollandaise?
14:25Christine, I'm on it.
14:26I'm on it.
14:27Christine is so vocal.
14:29She is really kind of rising to the top, as we say.
14:32She's taking control.
14:33More importantly, now there's great communication going on.
14:36You guys need to worry about the eggs better.
14:38Felix needs to get these out.
14:39Christine's take-charge attitude is winning praise from the judges, but in this challenge,
14:45it's votes from satisfied hotel guests that matter.
14:48We have the breakfast prepared by the Red Team for you.
14:51The hollandaise sauce was amazing.
14:52The eggs were perfectly cooked.
14:54So the Red Team's healthy omelet.
14:56The ingredients were awesome.
14:59Presentation was great.
15:00It doesn't have enough flavor, so it immediately needed a little salt and pepper.
15:0425 minutes to go, guys.
15:07The Red Team continues to get orders out.
15:10Come on.
15:10Get the ones that are coming out.
15:12But over on the Blue Team, Gordon discovers standards are slipping.
15:17$18.
15:18Is that it on fruit?
15:19Who put the fruit on there?
15:20I did.
15:21Look at me.
15:21I did.
15:22That was a mistake on my part.
15:23That's a mistake.
15:24No way.
15:25No way.
15:25No way.
15:26Would you pay $18 for that?
15:28No.
15:28You know that's not cooked.
15:31You're cooking them.
15:32He's taking them.
15:33You're serving them.
15:34It's raw.
15:35We are getting plates out, but the quality of the food that I'm receiving is not up to par.
15:41The whole thing's a disaster.
15:43We need an over-easy again.
15:44This one's broken, and we need three orders of scrambled eggs.
15:48Ryan, what are you doing besides watching them work?
15:50I'm ready for help if they need any help.
15:52Okay, let's get organized.
15:53The kitchen is crazy and hectic.
15:55I'm looking around at Ryan, and he looks a little confused standing around looking, wondering
16:00what's going on, and I'm getting frustrated.
16:03Things are about to go from bad to worse as Joe heads downstairs with a serious customer
16:09complaint for the blue team.
16:14We have a hair.
16:16We have a hair on a plate.
16:17Customer sent it back.
16:19Oh, .
16:21Guys, please.
16:23It's the expediter's road to make sure hair is in on plates, and so when it comes down
16:27to that, I think it all falls down on Monty.
16:30Monty, make sure the plates are clean.
16:32We're coming back with the hair.
16:33If not mine, my hair is this short.
16:34Well, if not mine, my hair is super long.
16:36Come on, guys.
16:37You're better than that.
16:38I think I'm doing a better job than anyone else on my team because they can't handle
16:42crumbling an egg.
16:43How are they going to handle putting together all these meals?
16:4712 minutes to go until breakfast is over, guys.
16:50Let's go.
16:50On the red side, carts are rolling as Felix finally finds her voice.
16:55Let's start setting up these All-American.
16:56Let's put the potatoes on there.
16:58All-American, here are your potatoes.
17:00Meanwhile, on the blue team, a power struggle threatens to destroy their earlier lead.
17:06Shut your mouth, dude.
17:07No, you shut your mouth.
17:08Shut your mouth, dude.
17:09Guys, we're a team.
17:10Stay as a team.
17:11Josh is moving my plates around and starts trying to tell me how to work it.
17:16It's like, why don't you stick to putting out some delicious food because you're not doing
17:19a very good job at that right now.
17:21What's the deal with these pancakes?
17:22They're getting cold.
17:23We need to get them out of here now.
17:25Listen to the blue team now.
17:26I mean, think of it as a ship or a submarine.
17:29It's not even a mutiny.
17:30It's just an absolute cluster.
17:32Those are cold.
17:33No, they're not.
17:34They're too cold.
17:35They're not flat.
17:35We need hot.
17:36Those are hot.
17:37They're cold for quick.
17:38They're flapping.
17:39Look at this.
17:40Dude.
17:40That was a hot.
17:42That's ridiculous.
17:42What is going on?
17:44There are massive outbursts between Monty and Josh.
17:48I could just see the entire team dynamic falling apart and crumbling around me.
17:52What do you need in your face right here?
17:53What else do you need?
17:54Toledo!
17:55A disaster.
17:57Just over five minutes left.
17:59Finish strong.
18:00Breakfast service at this busy hotel is coming to an end for the remaining 14 home cooks.
18:06Red team, blue team, it's still all to play for.
18:09It's neck and neck.
18:10Come on, let's go.
18:10All plates must be on the carts by 8.30 a.m. on the dot, so both teams scramble to get their
18:17final orders completed.
18:19We need an egg benedict right now.
18:20I got my arm, it's getting cold.
18:22I ain't up here and behind.
18:23So it's getting to the end of service and I'm confident that all our dishes were absolutely
18:27delicious.
18:28Pancakes up.
18:29I'm pretty sure that we had the red team beat when it comes to the food.
18:32These ones are ready.
18:34It just depends on how much food they all got out, but I'm confident in the flavorings
18:39of our food.
18:40Last minutes, one minute to go.
18:42One more order left, guys.
18:44Let's go.
18:45Scramble eggs, pork sausage, wheat, one order of pancakes.
18:4930 seconds to go.
18:51Felix, pancakes.
18:52All right, beautiful.
18:53Last dishes, I need them now.
18:5810, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, and stop.
19:10Who's that, Blue?
19:12Well done.
19:13Okay, I got those coming.
19:15Time is up, but Felix is still trying to send out food.
19:22Come here.
19:24Put it down.
19:26Do you want to get disqualified?
19:27No, I don't.
19:28Okay, so you're taking food out.
19:29I've already said stop.
19:31Huh?
19:31I've just told you, time is up.
19:33Oh, oh, I'm sorry.
19:35No, look at me.
19:36No cheating.
19:38I'm not trying to.
19:40So when I say stop, what does that mean?
19:42That means stop.
19:43I'm not surprised about that team cheating
19:45because it's probably the only way they're going to win.
19:48I'm just wanting to throw my arms up in the air
19:51because I don't know what the hell's going down,
19:53and I'm team captain,
19:54and I just feel like our team is going under.
19:56This is so much harder than I thought it was going to be.
20:02I wish that I was better organized,
20:05that I could have done a better job telling everyone what to do
20:08instead of trying to do everything on my own.
20:11It just breaks my heart that if we lost today,
20:15it would be my fault, you know, for not doing a better job.
20:19Bring it in right here.
20:20Come on, come on, come on.
20:21I'm still crying and cooking.
20:23Bottom line, you guys, we're home cooks,
20:26and we just ran a service for the busiest hotel in the country.
20:30It's insanity, dude.
20:31I feel like we have a good chance
20:35considering a lot of the people on that team
20:37have never even stepped foot inside the back of a restaurant before.
20:43It's the end of the busy breakfast service.
20:46The decision is now in the hands of the hotel guests.
20:50As Joe totals up all the door tax from satisfied customers,
20:54the teams wait anxiously to find out who won
20:56and who will be facing the upcoming pressure test.
21:01I'm super nervous before the judges announce
21:08who's going to be going into pressure test.
21:10I just definitely don't want to be in that position again.
21:13Joe has collected the results.
21:16The scores on the doors are in.
21:18Joe.
21:20One team got 60% of the vote,
21:23and one team got 40% of the vote.
21:25I look at my team,
21:27and I'm extremely confident that we're going to win this challenge.
21:31With 60% of the vote,
21:35the winning team
21:37is...
21:43the red team.
21:49I really shed tears of joy.
22:02We don't have to face the pressure test.
22:05Yeah.
22:07Leading a team to victory is a huge accomplishment for me.
22:10I feel awesome, like I've climbed that entire ladder from bottom to top.
22:15Red team, congratulations.
22:16The red team wins a challenge,
22:18and, wow, it's just awful.
22:23Congratulations.
22:24Captain, you led them into victory.
22:26Well done.
22:27Really well done, please.
22:29Blue team, you know what happens when you lose a challenge.
22:33Sadly, you're going to face a very tough,
22:37a very daunting pressure test
22:39where at least one of you
22:40will be checking out of the MasterChef kitchen forever.
22:46The songs.
22:47I really did believe we won this one.
22:49One of us is going to go home,
22:50and it could be any one of us.
22:52See you back in the MasterChef kitchen.
22:53Good job, red team.
22:54Well done.
22:54As the winning red team heads inside,
23:10the blue team prepares itself for the pressure test,
23:14knowing for at least one of them,
23:16this will be their last day in the MasterChef kitchen.
23:20I freaking totally wanted to avoid every pressure test.
23:24Me too, man.
23:24I wonder what they're conspiring over there.
23:27Today is a competition.
23:29You and I are definitely an alliance,
23:30but everyone else, I could care less.
23:33Clearly, you know who I want to go home.
23:35Yeah, we want Monty to go home.
23:36Some girls have, like, one screw loose.
23:38I feel like she has, like, 30 different screws loose.
23:40Monty is to blame for us losing this challenge,
23:43and I'll be happy to have the last laugh
23:45when Monty is walking herself out of the MasterChef kitchen.
23:49Ding dong, the witch is dead with a capital B.
23:51Yesterday, you were a team,
24:04but today, it's every cook for themselves.
24:09One of you will be eliminated forever
24:12from the MasterChef kitchen.
24:13Three of you will not be competing in this pressure test.
24:18Here's the thing.
24:19You will not be deciding who's safe.
24:22We will.
24:27I'm praying to every saint that I know
24:29that I'm one of those three people.
24:31We scrutinized and listened to everything.
24:34We know exactly who the heroes are,
24:36and we know who is completely out of their depth.
24:43I'm confident that they're going to pick me.
24:45Clearly, I have to be one of those three.
24:48Joe, who are you sending upstairs to safety?
24:52The person that I think deserves to miss the pressure test
24:57did their job in a diligent way.
24:59David Martinez, go upstairs.
25:05You're safe.
25:07David, seriously?
25:09The guy can't cook,
25:10and he's in infectious negative energy in the kitchen.
25:13Graham, for me, it's clear
25:15this person was able to stay focused
25:18in the face of chaos.
25:22And that person is Frank.
25:25Frank and David are safe from the pressure test,
25:30and I'm pretty confident I'm the last one.
25:32This person never stopped.
25:34Not just across the 90 minutes of prep,
25:37but across the 90 minutes of service.
25:40Right to the very last dish,
25:43the person I'm saving...
25:45...
25:46...
25:47...
25:48...
25:48...
25:49Josh.
25:52It's not you.
25:55Monty, upstairs, please.
25:58Congratulations.
25:59Well done.
26:00I'm pretty pissed that Monty's up there safe and not me.
26:03It's like a blow to the gut,
26:04because I was definitely the backbone of the team.
26:08I'm pissed off.
26:09The judge is sent by two arch-nemesises up the stairs,
26:12and now here I am, down in the trenches,
26:14having to fight for my life.
26:16So, for the four of you who remain,
26:19I'm sorry to tell you,
26:20but today's pressure test is a dessert
26:23that still to this day terrifies chefs across the world.
26:29It involves elements of a cake and a souffle.
26:34It's...
26:35a stunning...
26:38...technical...
26:42...molten lava cake.
26:44This is not your average dessert.
26:47This is a performance.
26:50When you slice into one,
26:51you should be rewarded with a chocolate gooey surprise.
26:55Leave it in the oven too long.
26:59You've got a brownie.
27:02Take it out too soon,
27:03and you've got a mess.
27:06All four of you,
27:07onto your stations, please.
27:08Let's go.
27:09The pressure is on.
27:12On your stations,
27:13you have identical ingredients.
27:15Flour,
27:16sugar,
27:17eggs,
27:18chocolate,
27:19powdered sugar,
27:20cinnamon,
27:20and butter.
27:21And you have four attempts
27:23to get the perfect cake.
27:24If at any point you think you've nailed it,
27:26bring it up to us straight away,
27:29because that is the cake you'll be judged on.
27:33Your 45 minutes
27:34starts from...
27:37now.
27:39Good luck.
27:41Creating a perfect molten lava cake
27:43requires preparing a batter
27:45with the exact amount of a few basic ingredients.
27:48The cake must be removed from the oven
27:50at precisely the right moment,
27:52just long enough for the outside to cook,
27:55while the inside remains liquid.
27:57One second either way
27:58can be the difference between success and failure.
28:02This is a real pressure test.
28:03The temperature in the oven
28:04has to be hot enough
28:05to sort of almost crisp up the outside.
28:07Right, but still liquid in the center.
28:09What about flavor?
28:10Rich.
28:11You know, intense.
28:12Not too sweet, though.
28:12Not too sweet.
28:13Not too sweet.
28:13Almost a little bitter.
28:14What's the strategy for this test?
28:16The strategy now is to make the mix.
28:18That's split into four.
28:19Get one in the oven first.
28:20And then adjust
28:21and use that first one as a dummy run.
28:23First one's a trial.
28:24Absolutely, definitely.
28:25Who might be crazy enough
28:26of these four contestants
28:27to bring up their first one?
28:28Tali.
28:29Tali.
28:30Right now, it's just a matter
28:31of getting the chocolate mixture
28:33ready for the lava cake.
28:34I got two ovens and two hands
28:36and four ramekins
28:37is what my life comes down to.
28:40I don't deserve to be in a press test.
28:42The fact that Chef Ramsay said Monty
28:44was vocal the whole time
28:45absolutely pissed me off.
28:4610 minutes gone.
28:47You've got to get one in the oven.
28:52Right.
28:52Hey, Chef.
28:53How are you feeling?
28:54I'm very nervous.
28:55You're sort of disappearing.
28:56Almost like a little mouse,
28:58and yet I get so frustrated
28:59because you can cook.
29:00I can.
29:01Good luck.
29:04How are we doing, Ronnie?
29:05I'm not much of a baker, I guess.
29:07Okay.
29:07So this wasn't, like,
29:08my dream pressure test.
29:09Do you think that you belong down here?
29:11I think Monty should definitely be down here.
29:13Monty.
29:14Yeah, 100%.
29:15What happened with Monty?
29:16Why do you think that?
29:16It was a complete communication breakdown.
29:18She didn't operate the team well.
29:20She didn't handle the prep time right.
29:21She didn't add up the numbers right.
29:23She didn't have a good system.
29:24That's not true.
29:25You know, she might have been vocal,
29:26but she was vocal in all the wrong ways.
29:28Ryan, you, dude.
29:30You deserve to go home.
29:31You're a jerk.
29:32I'm just a little frustrated,
29:33but I'm not going to let it affect my food.
29:35You know what he needs?
29:37Honestly, I would love to just slap him around.
29:40I know Ryan rubbed a lot of people in the wrong way,
29:43but there's a softness to him
29:45and a kindness to him
29:46and a spirit to him that is unmatched.
29:5515 minutes gone.
29:56There's got to be something in the oven
29:58in order for you to test.
30:00Tali, how many of you got in?
30:01What's your strategy?
30:02I got two in going right now.
30:04Two off the first batch.
30:05Yeah, so...
30:06So who in this group of four
30:07is going to go home today?
30:09I think Josh is going to go home,
30:10to be honest.
30:11Josh? Yes.
30:12Maybe your buddy Ryan might go home.
30:13I hope Ryan doesn't go home.
30:17Remember, these take minimum 15 minutes to cook.
30:21If you don't have them in the oven,
30:23better do it now.
30:25They were all too late
30:27putting the first one in the oven,
30:28because how are you going to test it?
30:29Cooking blind.
30:30Cooking blind.
30:30You've got to be looking at the first test
30:35coming out of the oven now.
30:36I don't see any coming out of the oven yet.
30:38No.
30:39The way Ryan is...
30:40What is he doing?
30:41Ryan's got one.
30:42He's got one.
30:43He looks undercooked from here.
30:45Ryan's just going to collapse.
30:46It's definitely raw.
30:47Let's see.
30:48Let's see.
30:52Oh, my God.
30:54This is diarrhea on a plate.
30:55The first one that I put in
30:59was intended to be a test run all the way.
31:02I wanted to try to feel out the timing of it.
31:04I just hope that my second one is more firm.
31:10I look in the oven,
31:12and my first one,
31:13it's not baked.
31:16So I am freaking out.
31:18If it's undercooked,
31:19it's going to sink.
31:21It's gone.
31:22Josh, this has collapsed.
31:23Seven minutes to go.
31:26When pulling the second one out,
31:28it looks much firmer
31:29than the first one did.
31:39Now, my entire fate lies in the last one.
31:43Five minutes to go.
31:45I was going to cut into this as a test,
31:50but my other cake's probably been there just as long.
31:53So I said to myself,
31:54you know what?
31:55I'm going to take a gamble,
31:56and this is going to be the cake
31:57to present to the judges.
31:59Are you serving that, Tali?
32:00I'm serving it.
32:01I want to hear it.
32:01Let's go.
32:02Let's go, then.
32:05Right.
32:06You happy with that?
32:07I hope so.
32:15Oh.
32:26It has oozed out.
32:28Maybe too much ooze.
32:29Too much ooze.
32:29A little too much.
32:30I think it was a touch underdone.
32:35Four minutes to go.
32:37I take my cake out of the oven.
32:46Oh, my God.
32:47Oh, good job, man.
32:48It's beautiful.
32:49And I can tap the surface.
32:51It has a little dimple in it.
32:52It looks good,
32:53and I am so relieved.
32:54I'm serving in 15 seconds.
32:59Come on.
33:00I can tell by the facial expressions
33:27of the judges,
33:28it's good.
33:28Gordon's team is a little smug,
33:32but what's new?
33:34Three minutes to go.
33:36Come on.
33:40When I pull out my second
33:42molten lava cake,
33:43I feel like this is the best
33:44I can do within an amount of time.
33:47Two minutes to go.
33:49Come on.
33:51Ooh, nice job, Josh.
33:53Serving in 15 seconds, chef.
33:55I'm extremely happy.
33:56This cake is a beautiful sight to see.
33:59All right, Josh.
34:00Oh, it looks great, Josh.
34:19Ooh, yummy.
34:20Good job, Josh.
34:22Thanks.
34:2260 seconds to go.
34:25I'm freaking out right now.
34:27There's only a minute left,
34:28and every second counts.
34:30Jeez, dude.
34:30Are you crazy, bro?
34:3145 seconds.
34:32Let's go.
34:33God, I would be freaking
34:34myself.
34:3730 seconds to go.
34:39Run, hurry up.
34:40Bring the plate, go.
34:4110.
34:42Come on.
34:43Walk it, walk it.
34:44Go, go, go.
34:455, 4, 3, 2, 1, go.
34:465, 4, 3, 2, 1, go.
34:475, 4, 3, 2, 1, go.
34:485, 4, 3, 2, 1, go.
34:495, 4, 3, 2, 1, go.
34:51I would be freaking myself.
34:5630 seconds to go.
35:01Run, hurry up.
35:03Bring the plate, go.
35:0510.
35:07Come on.
35:08Walk it, walk it.
35:10Go, go, go.
35:115, 4, 3, 2, 1, and serve.
35:215, 4, 3, 2, 1, go.
35:24Oh, my God.
35:26Wow.
35:35You got a straw in your back pocket?
35:39I am so bummed out right now.
35:41I'm not a scientist in baking in the kitchen.
35:44I'm a magician in the kitchen.
35:45And this does not lend well towards me.
35:47I'm just hoping at this point that it tastes better
35:49than the other people's cakes.
35:58I mean, it tastes good.
35:59Unfortunately, it's undercooked.
36:00But Thai is very floury.
36:02Absolutely.
36:03And it's too sugary.
36:04Mm-hmm.
36:05In the mix, especially in the middle, too,
36:06not cooked.
36:07Yeah.
36:08Yeah.
36:17That was definitely 45 minutes of pressure, let me tell you.
36:21Josh, Anna, step forward, please.
36:27Both of you, in our minds, produced a molten lava cake
36:30of pure perfection.
36:33Congratulations.
36:39Josh showed great precision because you did work under pressure
36:43and you nailed that pressure test.
36:45Really good job.
36:46Anna, your cake was as good as any cake you could have
36:49in a restaurant.
36:50And quite frankly, you took a pressure test
36:53and turned it into a demonstration for the rest
36:56of these contestants on how to create baking perfection.
37:00Congratulations.
37:02We've never seen anything like that.
37:05You nailed it.
37:06Thank you, Chef.
37:07Take you and Josh upstairs to the balcony.
37:10Well done.
37:16So I'm there with Ryan, my closest ally,
37:19and either one of us could go home right now.
37:21This is no joke.
37:25Ryan, Tali.
37:28You bonded in this competition?
37:30This really sucks.
37:32How could they possibly destroy the dream team so early on?
37:35One of the molten lava cakes stood up,
37:39tasted floury, tasted bland, was cold in the center.
37:46The other one tasted good, but it wasn't cooked sufficiently.
37:51I hope Ryan goes home today.
37:53He does not belong in the MasterChef kitchen.
37:56Ryan has taken a lot of punches in this competition so far,
38:00but he's not a bad person.
38:02Tali's got to go home.
38:03If you can't put flavor on the plate,
38:05you're not going to put it past these judges.
38:07I think both of them need to go home.
38:09Ryan, Tali.
38:12I'm going to turn this around.
38:16I'm going to ask that individual, who knows who he is,
38:21but didn't produce a stunning molten lava cake,
38:26to act on integrity and to be noble,
38:29and to come up here and hand me their apron.
38:32Oh, my gosh.
38:37Tali, upstairs.
38:55I thought it was a noble move by Ryan to give his apron up.
39:05Ryan was my really close friend,
39:08and now I carry the torch for the both of us.
39:11How are you feeling?
39:12Disappointed.
39:13You're disappointed.
39:15You're disappointed.
39:16We're disappointed.
39:17So far, you've handled pressure in the competition brilliantly.
39:20I did not expect you to present
39:22a molten chocolate soup on that plate.
39:28Thank you, Ryan.
39:29Please take your apron and put it onto your station
39:32and leave the MasterChef kitchen.
39:34Clearly, that chocolate molten lava cake got the best of me today.
39:40I just feel sick to my stomach that this is the note
39:43that I'm going to be leaving on.
39:48This has been an incredible experience for me.
39:50I'm very thankful for having the chance to show the judges
39:53what I could do.
39:54Thank you very much.
39:55I met a lot of great people.
39:57I wouldn't trade it for anything.
39:59This has reinstilled in me how good of a cook I am.
40:03I guarantee that you have not seen the last of the flavor elevator.
40:14That was a serious pressure test.
40:17From now on in, we're going to turn it up, get some rest.
